Open standards keep the world competitive and we all need options instead of a closed ecosystem with your only choice is size or color. I've been a fanatic of both sides, but at this point just want an even playing field where real innovation wins.

The argument of "multi tasking" as being Androids only defense is SO dated.
Android has evolved to be MUCH MORE than that. The software is so much more polished, coupled with companies like Samsung making an EXCELLENT ecosystem. My galaxy tab s6 works well with my z flip 5, my buds live, and my galaxy watch 4, devices that have different gaps in releases and works FINE to this day.

I agree with much of this video, EXCEPT where the abuse of Apple's Ecosystem deliberately degridates text photo & video quality from Android friends to Apple users. You're suppose to be better by making a superior product & service, NOT by degrading interactions between competitors. I'm also a huge advocate for "right to repair" legislation, allowing anyone to easily perform repairs & obtain parts for Apple products, just as they can for all Android & Microsoft. IMO.

  • @bwell01

Misinformation, marketing, kids, walled garden, legacy. Those are the real reasons Apple dominates in the US. They don't innovate anymore, and every premier feature they've released in recent years has come from the competition.... the hardware (besides processor) is behind and, if apple users were honest, they have the same hiccups with software. Apple has won over the youth with misinformation, and yesterdays misinformed youth is who drives todays smartphone market. They do make it hard to leave and as we see with the current lawsuits being filed by whole countries their business practices are calculated and decidedly underhanded. In androids early days apple was able to establish the notion of Android being an inferior product (and back then it was) and Android hasnt done a good job at showing how times have changed as the software has changed and experience has grown positive. Owning both I can say my current Android (S24U) shits on my 15PM in so many ways. There are things I can do on the S24 that you cant do anywhere in the Apple ecosystem and that spells win for me. Samsung has beaten apple since the Notee 20 series imo.

The S23 ultra also failed me with random lag when I needed it most.. "I'm just a fan of tech, I'm not a fan of a brand." This is the best line in this video! I use Android phones, Ipad, Windows, and Linux on Raspberry Pi. I use what works best for the task I am using it for. I disagree from personal experience on some of your points, but the fact you acknowledge your bias makes all the difference. I used to be more bias on tech than I am now. HP printers used to be the best you could get, then they went to trash. This killed 90% of my bias, so now I test things. I tried both Android Auto and Apple Car Play, and hated car play. I tried both Android tablets and Ipad and hated the tablets. Saying one brand is better because of the brand is simply short sighted and wrong. Apple IS doing better because bias and not because they are actually better. This was a good video ONLY if you watch all of it! Nice job.

Nice video. Thanks, I feel it the same. Also, notice that Samsung, the champion of Android, is a mixture of 3 app ecosystems by default: Samsung, Google, and Microsoft apps. For example, people who would prefer to use primarily Google apps on Samsung are forced to sync Samsung Gallery photos to Microsoft OneDrive because there is no option to seamlessly sync them to Google Drive. It is simply not possible to fully align the app ecosystem on Samsung, as Samsung does not want its users to switch entirely to Google apps, as the 2 companies are competitors. It is a pity.

I'm afraid to say that CJ has made a lot of valid points. My mother could use the iPhone I gave her, but when I replaced it with a flagship Android phone she barely touched it... was using Android Auto for several years, but Apple CarPlay is extremely well implemented... what I truly missed once I went to Android devices and opted for Windows-based computers was the ecosystem and the seamless app integration. That ecosystem is a huge positive, but for me it's not the only positive.
The typical bias across different platforms will ALWAYS creep into the debate, no matter what we say or do. No one is forced to stay within ANY platform or ecosystem. I still use a few Android-based devices(Sony/Android TV, Nest Hub, Nest Doorbells, Nest Cameras, Nest Protect Smoke/CO Alarms, speakers, and lights), but just like anything there may be a chance of products losing support over time.

Best comparison video I've seen you do CJ. And i say that because i feel like you removed a lot of the biases you have during the comparison (not all im sure you know). The in person support and parental controls was probably the most compelling topics for me.
But to the final point, I personally feel the dominance of Apple isnt just to bias or preference. I been with samsung since the flip phone days, never liked Apples approach to their consumers but I've taken time to understand why their consumers prefer their products and respect that. But what Ive noticed is Apple has a strong hold not just for biases, but because they punish their users for other people not having Apple products. Just this week I got shunned in the group chat for not having one. The proof is that 87% of teens having it and credit that to the blue bubble issue. Then you have the US and EU both suing Apple over it. Both explicitly quoting their predatory practices and highlighting Apples internal emails saying iMessage is how they are going to force people to stay or get other people to join. Even CKid and the other brotha directly alluded to iMessage and how communicating with someone outside of that is hard or undesireable. We know Apple did that by design because they admitted it in public and in private.
The other issue is most people I know havent had an Android in 10+ years and still think the experience hasn't changed. Thankfully you addressed that but people really do believe it.
But to wrap up, good take as always. Looking forward to what you got planned next

The apps integrate directly with the cameras and the cameras are consistently almost the best. Sometime a Samsung phone or pixel can create better photos but it is an inconsistent experience. Pixel would be my android choice but they have terrible cell signal.

  • @DeAndreEllison
    @DeAndreEllison หลายเดือนก่อน +1

you could have lead with the end...i know I know views, minutes watched, etc etc,. but really at this point in the game it's preference. My wife had an iPhone for a couple years... watch and all.. she had problems with things breaking after their "seamless" updates.. apps not working, last watch connectivity... etc etc, she didn't like having to go to an apple store for support and standing in line for things that you could easily fix in android... yeah its in person but it consumes more time.. she had problem getting carplay to work at times..the devices were more expensive... the problems weren't unique to apple products... and that was the problem.. premium product... same issues. For me, I'm not into the ecosystem thing so much.. having all your eggs in one basket... not the way I like to go. I prefer some segmentation in my products but can work together where I choose for them to. and for that, i'd like my products to work the same with whatever systems I choose. I like to choose what software I use on the PC and not worry about if it's mac compatible (interesting that's the opposite of the app situation). I'm not a social butterfly, so I don't use facebook, Instagram snapchat or tik tok heavily if at all I don't have chat groups... so it's a different use case for me and the iPhone people I know... and just to get it because "everyone else has it" ... not a valid reason for me... and you want to talk communication? I used to carry nextel and blackberry's. Yes, Apple beat them out when I was telling iPhone users that my blackberry had the feature they just got for years.... .... but there is nothing that iPhone uniquely offers me that I would use. Family... android has that.. screen time limits, app limits, location, contacts, sharing .. yada yada..... been using it for years.. yes, there is Bias, but there is also use case, marketing, and peer pressure.

There's so much whackness with Samsung customer support. Reps aren't on the same page with inconsistent statements and are just all over the place. Without customers they wouldn't be Samsung. They have a lot of third party people handling their trade-in phone program and it can be very hard at times to get a hold of them. I've heard and read a lot of horror stories about their customer service. Also there's no Samsung store close to me. Closest one in SoCal is Glendale and I'm in south Orange County, over an hour away. I pass by many Apple Stores just to get to that 1 Samsung store. Sorry to rant but just sharing my random 2 cents.

I just switched back from the s23 ultra. My first phone ever was an android, so it wasn’t a bias like many point out “oh, you’ve only ever owned iPhone that’s why you don’t like android” is what I get told a lot. I could always appreciate both but I leaned more towards android simply because of customizabilty and the free source vibe that they have. They just allow way more things. Then I got an iPhone an I really liked it but it didn’t feel like a big change, everything the android has I didn’t find myself missing too much. Them I decided to switch back over because I liked the design of the s23 ultra and I wanted to try something new. I got used to new android quick and it was pretty cool experience until I started experiencing the downside. The BIGGEST downside for me was google pay, it is just awful and it would work 1/3 times and I don’t mean that I had to tap 3 times for it to work, I mean that the times it wouldn’t work I was simply screwed, as I usually use it when I forget my wallet or don’t have cash on me. It’s embarrassing honestly but it wasn’t enough for me to want to switch back just yet. The second thing was pictures and videos through SMS. Even though it is largely regarded as an issue that apple itself has created in order to discourage people from switching to android, whether or not they’re responsible is not important to me, I just want it to work and 100 times out of 100 it would not work, the videos would be compressed and so would pictures. Lastly, the ecosystem was just not fluid like apples. I had the s23 ultra along with the s9 tab, and even though it wasn’t a bad experience, apples is just a lot better.

The real freaking reason why I switched and now rocking an iPhone 13 is because my last Samsung phone I tried was a s20fe, great fun phone, had it from March 2023 to august 2023, until it never received ANY updates, not even one, never got andriod 13 and was stuck on andriod 12
I contacted Samsung support and they said they couldn't HELP me at all because it was with the carrier, apparently even if the phone is unlocked it has to be FULLY unlocked not an unlocked and payed off unit, so apparently it's a stupid phone carrier that updates!! Now real reason why I say Samsung doesn't update there phones is because they don't care about there customers who are having issues
When I jumped to an SE 2020 I got iOS 17 on day of release and it felt good and nice!!
Anyways I'm loving my iPhone 13 so freaking much

Cameras..... They are or at least were 4 years or more behind in resolution, stabilization etc.
Kids access? Settings, search parental..... done. easy.
Getting to settings, swipe, hit gear, done.
    customization, android wins hands down.
apple? Try being a gamer? No diablo, most games on steam are a no go, most games on epic, no chance, etc.
Assistant? android stomps the ground with siri.
apple car play and android are equal.
organization, so much easier. Screen isn't always cluttered with all the apps, like apple.
I had a 4 k screen on my LG-g3 almost a decade before apple got it on their phone.
The list can go on,. bigger on phone storage, equal cloud storage, faster processor, USB type C (we've had it for 5 years now and you only just got it). Funny, in the 15 years or so I have used android, I've never needed any customer service for anything.

I use both. But originally I used android and gave it up 12 years ago because it was a hot mess. Devices that I had: T-Mobile G1 I had was glitchy and kept restarting and freezing. Best part is it was getting updates. 3 out of the 4 phone I had were a glitchy or defective mess. Because of that I switched to iOS for the reliability and longevity of support. Android has now caught up with reliability and stability and I since have gotten an Android phone because of that. Still depending on OEM, Apple still has better suppprt not counting Google and Samsung. My last iPhone I kept for 4 years before upgrading. It stayed smooth and kept getting OS updates. That’s why I stayed. I can easily just jump ship back to Android exclusively but since the iPhone works well and gets the job done, it’s not going to happen. However I am happily using both platforms and currently tempted to upgrade from the Pixel 7 Pro to the Galaxy S24 Ultra.

For me & I never thought I would but I like ios better overall I've come to realize for a few little key touches that make a difference to me & I haven't seen or read anyone else mention these! in ios messaging when you get a text containing a tracking number & other stuff you can tap on it from the text and ios recognizes it's a tracking & will pop up from the text area saying track package! Android doesn't do that, imessage has won me over to overall, also another thing in ios that android doesn't do currently is the TH-cam pip feature, on ios if you slide the running video your watching all the way over to the side of the screen out of sight you can still listen to it playing! on android you can only make it really small & drag it around but if you tuck it out of the way it stops playing, & also Siri is better especially in case needed in an emergency because the screen can be locked off and even if you just say siri help it will dial 911, Android only few devices do that now even when you have the assistant set to work on the lock screen, Its odd some phones will call others but not emergency services which is odd to me, I also like the overall search feature built into ios better when looking for an app or whatever, It to me is just a cleaner overall easier experience, ya ios can be a bit boring at times but ios 18 is supposed to change some of that, So their are pros and cons to both, I do wish ios had a back button for example, but what I have never understood is how some people get downright angry arguing back and forth which is better lol, Just use what makes you happy and fits your life..

Thanks for repeating "in the States".👍🏿 This situation is totally different outside, hopefully for me, living in Europe.
From the way people buy smartphone to the use of options for tracking kids or sharing positions, people don't have the same behaviour in a lot of european countries. Same for countries i know the best in West Africa and South America.
I'm a bit surprised you didn't speak about some people keeping their iPhone because they don't want to deal with their family. Same for children or teenagers bullied because they can't afford to pay an iPhone. Those things hurt my values, the way my parents raised me.
