    Finemolds Type 97 Japanese tank (Shinhoto Chi-Ha Early Hull). Full build with terrain base and US Marine figures from Masterbox. The tank is built in Japanese three colour camouflage with yellow disruptive stripe. The US Marine figures are painted in the beach camo scheme and blue / green HBT uniform. The terrain base is made from AK Interactive Beach acrylic paste mixed with a variety of diorama materials including static grass. All of the colours used are shown at the relevant points in the video. You can buy the kit here: www.hlj.com/1-35-scale-ija-ty...

    Nice background music. Really nice touch of adding canines with the Marines. You don't see that often in dioramas. The dogs look great to me, nice blending of their colors.

    Stellar job on both the diorama fixtures and the model tank.....great colours and textures giving the feel of the story. Really like the camo job on the tank and the painting of the figures...human and animal! Your commentary is always interesting and you have a quietly spoken and calm way of telling the story....thank you.

    did you know american tank crews actually used to prefer using HE shells for Japanese tanks over AP as the armour was so thin the HE shells would penetrate the riveted armour often only and inch thick and explode inside the tank and rupture it internally, whilst the ap would often pass right through them not doing much damage.
    Nice work on the build, feel like it should be on Tarawa? looking at the uniforms and diorama

    • @ModelNerd

    my only critic is the impact area should have some marks around is almost unnotisable, even the bazooka leaves marks arround the hole, also the tank has a ammo rack at that point, but we can say they were incredibly lucky,
    but the diorama is quite nice

    • @ModelNerd
      @ModelNerd  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi. I thought that too, but I've also seen images like this where the hole is quite clean (although the tank itself has a bit more damage). commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:American_Sherman_tank_after_destroying_a_Japanese_tank.jpg

    I’ve not seen 1/35th Doberman’s before and didn’t realise they were used by the US forces in the war. Enjoyed the video especially laying in bed watching on a Sunday morning with a cup of tea. A nice looking dio by the way and look forward to your next build.

    *A little miss : the mud should have cover the road wheels of the tank. Great job finally!*

    Wow really nice job on the tank and the figures! The dust effect came out much better than the lee. Though, I found a slight flaw: since the Japanese vehicles were lightly Armored, the American tanks mainly used APHE shells (armored piercing high explosive) which broke into fragments after penetration. If it was a APHE shell that knocked out the tank then there would be more damage to the vehicle and maybe a fire. Also maybe you could add little marks around the hole to represent fragments melting the metal slightly. Other than that, Amazing work!

    • @ModelNerd
      @ModelNerd  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the comment and the info. I made the shell hole and then sort of backed off it for some reason. Certainly some smoke would look decent.

  • @stephenbridges2791
    @stephenbridges2791 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Nice job! Nothing to worry about not having Vallejo. You are better off using Tamiya. I wish I could get my hands on a Fine Molds kit of ANY kind. But, I can't. Great subject matter, too. Japanese armor is kind of a forgotten or over looked subject. Enjoyed it, my friend.

    • @ModelNerd
      @ModelNerd  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Stephen. Yes, I find Fine Molds quite hard to get hold of too. I think I ordered this one from HobbyLink Japan. They're not cheap kits either, although they have the best range of Japanese vehicles I think.

    What brand is the yellow? I’ve always found it difficult to work with because it’s so transparent. Wonderfull job on the tank by the way!

    • @ModelNerd
      @ModelNerd  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks. The yellow is Tamiya XF-3. Yes - it's always a difficult colour to get coverage with. Not too bad on armour, but if you want a perfect yellow finish on something like an F1 car it's much more difficult to achieve.

    Hi there, wanted to comment a little on your model. You said there was a 75mm sherman round penetrating the side of the chi ha, although there was a hole, it didn't really look realistic. I suggest watching "the night shift modeller" for more techniques on this matter. Also try adding a bit more rust and chips on the tank. But overall very nice model :D

    • @ModelNerd
      @ModelNerd  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks for your comment. Yes, I'm a fan of Night Shift's videos. I didn't want more rust or chips because I don't think they reflect the state of a lot of vehicles in the field.
