I used to spend hours making models of #WW2 armour, vehicles, soldiers, planes and once even attempted to recreate a French bordello with the full crew of personnel included and I was only just turned 6 years old, I was congratulated for my achievement at school and my father was especially proud and impressed with his son and heir.📚🏴😊
Thank you Steve. Yes, this scheme is one of my faves too. I have a Dorchester truck that is supposed to be in this scheme, but I have something else I might want to do with it...
@@ModelNerd I thought it was light blue (RLM light blue or stone blue) after all these years. Never trust the instruction sheet from the model kit but online images,LOL
@@amuxpatch2798 Yeah, the light blue is now regarded as a common misconception, perhaps based on dust altering colours or the slate colour fading to a bluer hue. Apparently one armour museum went with this blue scheme years ago and others copied (including the kit makers!).
@@ModelNerd Tamiya engineers went to museums to take pictures of military pieces and used that as the basis for color, markings etc.. to be used in their kits and instruction sheets.
Great video! Very instructive! Just completed my first attempt at weathering (on any model) on the 1:48 Matilda "Phantom" using your techniques. Pretty happy with the outcome. Thanks!
A very enjoyable watch, lots of details in both the visual and audio. I've the same tank in my stash so I've picked up lots of tips from this video which I will put to great use when it's time to build my Matilda.
Enjoyed the video very much. One thought I had was to add pigment powder to the skirts of the tank going from very light at the top to heavier along the edge. You could also do the same for the road wheels, Idler & sprocket wheel. Just a thought. Also the back of the signs could use weathering as well. Overall very well done.
An awesome result set off nicely on the diorama. Tamiya make some great kits and are always great to build. I’ve even got some older kits from the 80’s still to build. I’ve never built a Matilda before and feel inspired now to make one.
Great work at the Tamiya 1/35 scale Matilda British tank used in Afrika . Excelent work at the assembling and painting the body . The weathering is absolut fantastic and very realistic . The diorama is also amazing ! Thank you for sharing my friend !🙂👍🏆🥇
There's a new mould kit not sure how better it could be than this newer one!? I love the Matilda really wish someone would bring out a mk1 Matilda kit!
Thanks. I will try to cover this more the next time I paint some figures - I normally skip over it because I don't feel I do this well, but I am improving, slowly...
Lovely build. I recently built "Defiance" from this kit. It's great that there is so much photo reference available on line so I was able to fix up the incorrect Census number and the the placement of the RAC flashes on the sides.I love your treatment of the tow lines.I must take mine off and do them again. I have built my first diorama featuring the Matilda with a Stuart I built ages ago and a shot up PAK 37. The tanks are both 7th Armoured Div. from Operation Crusader but they were in different Brigades and it is unlikely they would of crossed paths, but in my display case they look fine. Once again great video.
@@ModelNerd one big tip I can give you on museum's and ww1 ww2 modeling don't copy them! I've actually had an argument with the restorers of the Bovington Matilda mk3 about her paint scheme! They were so ignorant and fighting back that they have the correct paint colour codes on file and there the correct colours! There not! Paint didn't go by number mix amounts back then either! I have the original document of the colour scheme for her! Well it's a photocopy of the original and she's certainly not sky blue and yellow! Portland stone, light stone , middle stone, uk BSC 49 L purple bL (used on the Grant's and Sherman's) desert camo theres a desert pink the BSC 28 L silver green is the main colour they use not bright blue haha! There's quite alot of desert colour theres the normal desert camo and then we have the caunter scheme! If you ever need any of the names and codes let me know mate be happy to help
Thanks Denis. I'm thinking of doing a short video on (image) resources for modellers. There's a lot of places like the IWM archives that aren't readily indexed by Google. Do you think such a video would be useful to people?
Model Nerd uh hello your work is amazing and yes as a current teenager doing models this would really help as sometimes it is hard to find good reference images for all types of models👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Nice build, especially convincing dust and dirt effects. About painting the interior black- after watching some Lindybeige and Chieftain videos bemoaning the forest of things to bang one's head against that actually block a lot of the view from outside hatches, I'm slightly surprised that no company has come out with partial interior kits with just those parts that can be seen from outside hatches- particularly with a figure partially blocking the view. When I was younger and had better eyes I'd scratchbuild such stuff bit not these days.
I agree - it can't be super hard to include, for example, a turret basket. Actually the RFM Sturmtiger (a bit of a pain of a kit) I'm working on now does include a partial interior, but that's definitely unusual.
Very nice result! One of my modeling shortcomings is not having done more UK subjects. Interesting on the exhausts. One thing I have done is to mix some pastel dust into the paint. An earth tone most often. It ups the texture a bit and looks like a very well used muffler. So, I agree 100% on the way you did the exhaust. Looks like you could reach out and burn your hand. Good job!
Fantastic build. They’re all good but this one I would rate in the top 2 or 3. The weathering and the camouflage colors were spot on in my opinion. I’m motivated to do a Loyd Carrier with Sikhs as part of the 8th Army in1941 using a similar colors and technique, Awesome. Hard finding pics of Sikhs in Loyd Carriers but just began researching. I always wonder when I see a thumbs down 👎 on something as quality as this what they were thinking. Apologies to you for whoever did that. P.s. Looking forward to the Zombie Part 2.
Cheers Ted, I appreciate your comments. I don't worry about the thumbs down any more to be honest :) The Loyd Carrier project sounds interesting - it's always good to see something new and different. Good luck with it! Zombie Part 2 might be the next video - I've done most of it now but the figures are holding me back a back. It's surprisingly hard to paint zombie skin! :)
We completely skipped over the Tow Cable part of the build ... shame - I was actually looking forward to that the most! You seem to have completely replaced the included bit of string with some wire? I am considering the same issue and would have liked very much to see how you resolved or tackled that part of the build ...
Sorry mate, I didn't realise anybody would be very interested in that part of the build. I'm trying to remember how I approached it, as this model is currently in a box on a shipping container somewhere. I did use steel wire, although I feel like it might have been included in the box already...
@@ModelNerd The Kit definitely doesn't include steel wire ... it's a standard 144mm bit of white string. Many people seem to use thin gauge picture wire as a replacement which I am also considering. I can guess at what you did but would have liked to see the discussion on it and actually see what you did with it ... it seems inconsequential but it's funnily enough one of those stand out aspects of the build that some people avoid and others do right. No matter ... enjoyed the build either way.
@@thevelointhevale1132 I must have pulled it from the spares then I guess. Thank you for the feedback though - I do appreciate it. It's useless to know that seeing small parts like that being built can be helpful to people.
