Sorry for late reply. Bad year for us. No Porgies yet. But we will be trying to focus on them in the fall

Glad you enjoy it! We are having a hard time getting on the tuna bite in NJ this year. Weather has been a problem for us too.

Great video! I use 40 lb braid for tune on slow pitch. 15 is more than enough for black seabass. I use 15 lb and tilefish too.

I agree on the 15. I have 20 on now but will be bringing it down. Waiting to catch tuna on standard tackle first this year before I breakout Temple Reef Elevate G3's for Tuna.

The best thing about jigging and SPJ is you arent wasting time cutting baits and rehooking. Even if you miss a fish you are right back in the strike zone in a second instead of reeling up and rebaiting. I havent used bait for sea bass in over 5-6 years. And the biggest sea bass always come on the jigs. You can literally leave your jig in the strike zone and wait for the right bigger hit to set the hook.

Very true and thanks for your input. As for us, we are new to jigging for sea bass regardless of method. We have always been bait fisherman for bottom. I got hooked watching some Florida videos on SPJ and we were thrilled when we worked it for sea bass. Our last video was for Striped Bass and we did very well on SPJ. We always jigged for Stripers with jigs, but slow pitch is lighter, better action and we focus on our speed, depth and jig patter. And you are right, no smelly bait !!!

Where u anchored? Can u slow pitch jig and drift? Thanks

    • @fromthetidetoyourtable4806

Really hard to slow pitch with a lot of current. We do not anchor, as much as we should, we typically drift the wrecks and reefs. On days with too much current, we use larger jigs or just switch over the bait.

@@ATC235 yes you really need the slow pitch jig to be as vertical as possible to work it correctly. The guys with the GPS/spot lock anchors have a real advantage now when there is current.

S&S Bucktails. And Rabid Shad. Both are on the internet. Cant remember exactly where but Rabid Shad comes directly from the manufacturer and their website.

what brand of jigs are you using? Other than 35gram like the video said would you recommend other sizes?

    • @fromthetidetoyourtable4806

Most of our jigs come from johnyjigs.com. last trip we had to use as high as 80 grams. We also use Nomad jigs that we get at our local tackle shops.
