      @@Two-Eyed_Boy It does need to be there to hold in the lcd and keep it from being right on the digitizer. If you don't have it, you can simply cut some double stick adhesive to use. It doesn't have to be perfectly all the way around, just a straight strip for the top bottom and sides. Or you can get one already made such as this a.co/d/fixU1qe
      Just make sure it is for the lite, I think the one in the link is actually the full size switch.

    Was going to do this on a £30 switch lite I picked up that had a couple screen scratches but honestly really isn't worth the hassle as someone who also does repairs , that's a full tear down and risk of breaking the screen for the sake of a couple scratches in my case , but cheers for showing how it's done regardless !

    Well, the screen and digitizer set I had didn't include replacement double sided tape for the outer touch screen to attach to the case. In the video I can see it come off with the old outer touch screen, but you didn't put anything in place of the old tape to hold the touch screen in place to the outer case. I was able to take the tape off of the old screen and put it on the case for the new one. Next, the rectangular black sticky sponge that goes on the inside was literally an inch longer all the way around. I tried to take it off the old LCD, but it was just crumbling into pieces, so I had to cut the new one down with a razor knife and piece it together. After that everything went great, until I tested it and the ZR button wasn't working. I took it apart and noticed the ribbon from the LCD to the right side PCB wasn't in all the way as I had trouble getting it to fit into the slot in the PCB, so I thought maybe it just isn't in far enough. I pressed it in just a bit more, and then the ribbon kinked and broke the wires inside the ribbon cable, which I couldn't even see until I used a jewelers eyeglass to examine it. Then I realized, when you flip it over the ZR button is on the LEFT side. I looked at the button and saw that the rubber disc was slightly to the left, which was the problem all along, and I broke the ribbon cable for no reason! I just ordered a new LCD so hopefully it will work this time.

    Bought a Lite model from.someone locally for $90 that has a small chip at almost the center of the screen. Most people probably wouldn't care much but it annoys the crap out of me. Watching the video it doesn't look too bad to replace it so I may order one. Are there any particular brands OEM you recommend? I noticed there a bunch of them on eBay.
    *Edit* On my Switch Lite, its the digitizer that has the small chip in it. No inner screen damage. However it looks like if you have to replace one, you have to replace the other.

    • @TheRetroBen
      @TheRetroBen  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for the comment. I got my LCD and digitizer from Amazon I actually went for the cheap option that came with both as a package. Surprisingly the digitizer on these seems to be made out of some type of plastic and one can be replaced independently of the other but you need to be very careful because you can risk damaging the LCD by removing it. As you could see in my video the LCD was already broken but I'm not sure if I would try to remove one if it wasn't.

    • @lucienverse
      @lucienverse 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      If you do try it, use a hairdryer on the edges of the screen as the heat will warm up the glue and make it easier to take the screen off. That way you might not need to replace both of them.

    If I unhook my ribbon cable from the digitizer will my switch still work? I don't really care having touchscreen. In order to use my switch I have to have one finger on a certain part of the screen in order to navigate around. I'm wondering if I can just delete the digitizer by unhooking it.

      @TheRetroBen  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for the compliment. If you mean the white paste I put on the copper square, that is actually heatsink compound, can also be called thermal paste, it helps transfer heat from the cpu to the heat pipe. The kind I have is made by dow corning but there are many brands and types, I would have talked about it in the video but then there would have been arguments in the comments on which brand or type is better lol. Honestly if you search for heatsink compound online there will be many results, many people prefer the silver type because it conducts heat a little better which is fine however use a small amount, because it can conduct electricity and if it accidentally gets it somewhere else that it doesn't belong that can cause issues. Hope this helps.

      Im so blimmin chuffed i managed to do this BUT...now the switch will come on showing the title screen with nintendo logo (so the screen has been successfully replaced😁)
      But then it immedietly shuts off again?
      Do you think this is just a case of charging the switch for 12+ hours(with official nintendo charger)
      Or is there something i need to double check within the switch to try and solve this problem.
      I have tried a hard reset but all that happens is the logo pops up for a second or two then it immedietly shuts off again and thats before it reaches the 12 seconds.
      Any feedback greatly appreciated.

    • @TheRetroBen
      @TheRetroBen  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oof that can be tough to deal with. Usually when I have to deal with stripped screws I usually try to take a few different very small flat blade screwdrivers and try to see if I can get one of those to grip on what's left of the head of the screw. sometimes this works if you can get one that's very tiny like for a eyeglass repair kit, or if you have a kit like one from I fix it that has various very tiny flat blades sometimes this will work.

      @TheRetroBen  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello, unfortunately at this time I have a full time job and don't have much time for repairs on the side. That may change in the future. As for your screen problem I would go back and closely look at all the connections and make sure they are seated all the way and also there is a small ribbon cable that goes to the main board from the small joystick board you can see my plugging it back in at 30:35 in my video, this ribbon is very easy to break or rip because of the way it is bent around this will also cause the screen not to work, I actually broke one myself but they are easy to find online if that is the issue. If you cannot re-use the adhesive or it is damaged, you can use some tape made by tesa an example can be seen here www.ifixit.com/Guide/How+to+Use+a+Pre-Cut+Adhesive+Sheet/113604

    • @TheRetroBen
      @TheRetroBen  ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh no, the first thing is to go back over all the little connectors and make sure they are fully seated and tight. Try to power it on then, if still nothing please hold down the power button for at least 1 minute and try again. If there is still nothing, look at the small ribbon cable that connects the main board to the separate smaller board with the controller and be sure there are no rips or tears in it I have seen this been damaged easily and it will not power on. If that tiny ribbon cable is damaged don't panic it is available for purchase for cheap on various web sites. I hope this helps.
