- For the final video of 2024, I had the unique opportunity to review a Rivian R1S Launch Edition, a true pioneer in the world of electric SUVs. With a VIN under 3000, this vehicle is one of the earliest models off the production line, and at 24,000 miles, it’s held up impressively well. From its pristine interior to its functional design, I dive deep into what makes this vehicle stand out, even as a loaner. Whether you’re considering a used Rivian or just curious about its durability, this video offers a comprehensive look at its features.
As a real estate photographer and outdoor enthusiast, I also share my experience using the R1S for work and how it compares to my R1T. From the Meridian audio system to its spacious interior and off-road capabilities, I explore the pros and cons of this electric SUV. Plus, with some bonus footage of my garden and my dog, Maple, it’s the perfect mix of tech, lifestyle, and nature to wrap up the year.
Join me as I explore the practicality of this Launch Edition R1S, how it fits into daily life, and why Rivian’s build quality continues to impress. Whether you’re a Rivian fan, an EV enthusiast, or just curious about electric SUVs, this video has something for everyone. Happy New Year from me, Maple, and the Rivian!

I commented on one of your other videos and did end up going with a used 2022 R1T instead of a 2025 to save money and I love it. My VIN is in the 11,000’s and literally nothing rattles, everything works, and I agree the Meridian sound system was a big driver towards getting a 22 vs a 23 or newer because it did sound amazing. Appreciate the videos and it seems like you keep making videos I actually want to watch!
Glad you are loving it! I've been making it a mission to not do the cliche videos when reviewing Rivian and stuff. This give me reasons to keep pushing!
Rivian's are really freaking good, they are still having some growing pains. But if they continue on course, they will be something special. my R1T is the best vechile I've ever owned.
I agree, they are good vehicles. But I can see why there is some growing pain.
Great video! I’m thinking about getting the new Escalade EV but this is such a beautiful car. Thanks for the info and happy new year!
Oh man how many miles will be on the Escalade???
I bought a '22 LE, Launch Green R1T with almost 21K miles on it in May '23. It now has 53K miles on it. VIN is below 50!!! It has held up really well with the Meridian sound system, and 12v outlets under the dash and in the frunk. Everything still looks brand new even though it has been all over the place in the sand, ocean, rivers, mud, rocks, and snow. This is the best vehicle ever!
See! this is the way!
I just bought a used rivian launch edition little over 2 weeks ago with 41,000 miles on it and it looks brand new and every thing works , we put over 1,000 on it already
That's what I'm talking about!
Looking forward to the R3 when it’s released!
I wouldnt mind pre ordering it! Can't wait for the R2 configurator.
"I'm doing this for us!" Content = kibble!
I bought my R1T with 26k miles and other than a few scuffs, it looks brand new! They seem to hold up well.
GIVE MORE SCUFFS
@@dominicwilkerson absolutely!
I'm in the market but am having trouble figuring out how to determine the motor set up. Prefer a quad motor but if you look on autoliat there is no way to tell
Quick way to tell is the brakes. Yellow is Quad for gen 1 Tri for gen 2... silver is dual.
@@dominicwilkerson perfect just the clue I needed! Thank you for the content, your videos have been a great help in deciding to go in this direction!
hey, thanks for this… Im either gonna buy the R2 that I reserved or buy a used R1S… my question is, what is the color of the interior… looks to be a blueish/gray… I REALLY like that!
This was black with the dark ash wood.
24k miles is nothing though. We drive like 18k a year.
I do about 30k, but I was chatting about leases.
Lol yeah, 30k on my 2023 Tesla Y... looking at a 2022 Adventure quad edition R1T... very tempting.
How's the ride in that thing? My 2025 Gen 2 R1S rides like trash. Bouncy like it has bad shocks and feels like the rear end hits the bump stops really easy.
Just like my R1T. I heard there was an issue with the R1S ride quality, but I am not feeling it with this one.
@@dominicwilkerson I really think it's an issue with my unit. I have an R1T and love the ride. But service just tells me yeah the ride on the R1S is not as good as the R1T and tell me my R1S is normal. I just don't believe that. But the ball is in my court to try to force them to do something with it which is frustrating.
If it’s raining 😂
Nice little work area lol
They seem pretty ordinary looking. Not very impressed with Rivians
