On the Richardson 112 hat you don't need to use stabilizer, the front panel is so thick and stable to add stabilizer is to cause needle brakes, you can also get the hat wet with hot water, total game changer.
Question. I have already made mine a tight as I can get. however the cap frame is not starting to bend where the two pegs come out. I not have to pull them together to get the hats tights due to the hoop bending.
Interesting, I wonder if you are cranking it too tight? Maybe that cap frame is compromised, do you have a 2nd one? We keep them in stock on Shopmelco.com
Try 2 layers of backing. Ensure your presser foot is placed right. Also, adjust active feed to the settings I recommend. Be sure your needle is aligned correctly. Try slowing things down to 900 or so. Is your hat clamped tiiiiight as can be?
Yes that is black backing, I think it came from Madeira? Not sure. According to Mike, the structure on hats is too rough and has a tendency to fray and break threads. Backing is always good practice on hats.
This is just basic knowledge that anyone can read off the help site. Instead of regurgitating already known info, you should have given out tips that are only learned from experience. Like the actifeed settings, the presser foot height (which you failed to mention during the presser foot gap width), different needle sizes, etc. I have no issue with any type of structured hat other than the EMT16X is mediocre at best compared to my other Japanese machines. The Melco is my least favorite and least reliable machine. A complete donkey to work with. I can let my other machines go and they are completely rock solid. If it isnt babied in calibration and maintenance it acts up constantly and the ethernet chip that the EMT uses on the motherboard is utter garbage. Constant connection issues no matter what computer or cable is used. I have to actually use a linksys switch to get it to work properly most of the time. Motherboard is junk and all around cheap hardware architecture. When I first bought the machine, I planned on buying more EMT16X but quickly changed my mind after using for a few months and especially when I opened it up to analyze the motherboard and also had to flash it because Melco's OS sucks beyond all comprehension when it comes to (what should be) a simple firmware update. Verdict: Melco👎 never.
