- I opened packs from Shohei Ohtani's rookie year and pulled a crazy rare card from $2,000 boxes of 2018 Topps Update and 2018 Bowman Baseball!
I am opening $2,000 worth of Shohei Ohtani rookie year hobby boxes and packs in search of one of his rare rookie autograph cards for our next collectible sports trading card pack unboxing/box break! Ohtani just made headlines by signing a massive $700 million contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers, so there's no better time to try a rookie chase of the Japanese superstar! The debut Ohtani is actually desirable because he's holding a bat. Also my favorite card I own is a rookie Shohei refractor in PSA 10. I pulled it out of a blaster from Amazon in 2021

Nice pulls. You absolutely crushed it, but still likely came up short on break even. How do you feel about the disconnect between wax and singles prices? Do you think market forces with push box prices down or single prices up? The current environment seems unsustainable.
I feel like Topps/fanatics is either gonna have to accept that only 10% of collectors are going to be breaking boxes from here on out, or they have to adjust prices (and profits) for the sake of selling more product in the big picture. The price of singles won’t go up dramatically until people stop opening a ton of product. If people would quit buying so much sealed product, it would force Topps to re-evaluate their model. But it will probably never happen! 😂
2018. Didn’t buy much tough year and it turned out to be a great one to collect. Acuna, Devers, buehler , Torres to name others

That Acuna is sweet. Jersey # on that high of a print run should be a big multiplier. Non jersey # goes for around $300 raw. I’d say at least $1000 for the 0013/2018

I strongly suggest not to buy 2018 Bowman, Ohtani autos were only redemptions and he had no chrome, only paper base in that series. Not worth price of the box for only paper variations.
