The fact that the cult of Scientology didn't destroy your gentleness and sensitivity is incredible. You survived all that, and maintained your core goodness, is a tremendous victory, congratulations! Books were my escape from an abusive childhood and marriage. Now that I am free of that, I still have my love for reading. I don't eat carbs (diabetic), but those pancakes look amazing!! 🥰

I suspect that one day Jenna may have more followers than her uncle. She certainly has more to offer others than he does. (And by followers I mean in friendship and fun, not blind faith.) ✌🏼

I enjoyed watching you make pancakes 😋 My favorite movie is called "Shag". Just to clarify, to shag means to dance in South Carolina lol. It's about four friends who graduate from Spartanburg High School. Their parents think that they are going to Fort Sumter in Charleston, but they really sneak away to Myrtle Beach. It's such a relatable movie for me. I graduated from a high school in Spartanburg County and my friends and I went to Myrtle Beach for our senior trip. It's special to me because my dad, who has passed away, taught me to Shag when I was a little girl. He would take me to Myrtle Beach and we would go out dancing together. This often required him to bribe the door guy at the bar so I could come in lol. It was the 80s. The movie has a good story and a lot of great dancing in it. I highly recommend it. My comfort movie during the holidays is "A Christmas Carol". I like the versions that stick to the book🥰💜

Guuuuurrrrlll, when i moved back home with Mama and donated books to SalvationArmy, they wanted to know if i owned a library!!! HP books, anything by Jill Churchill, Janet Evonavitch, Dick Francis, Fanny Flagg, among a thousand. Love movies and agree about the HP ones, meh compared to the books but loved them. 30’s and 40’s era movies. Just rewatched the Sixth Sense. Great acting.
Thank you for sharing this part of yourself, it’s just so dang fun!!! Janet

My sons were 11 and 13 yrs old when the HP books came out. My most favourite memories are of me reading them the HP books as they were released. It was torture to have to wait for the next book in the series but I cherish those days. I'm a nana now so I'm exited to see if my Grandson will like them too.

Jenna...I admire you for getting out and sharing your story. I LOVE that in your intro, you make your uncle a devil...lol! School teacher here, so books are easy...The Women by Kristen Hannah, The Nightingale also by Kristen Hannah, Country Club Murder Series by Julie Mulhern, Hatchet, and Anne of Green Gables. I am sad to say that I've never read the Harry Potter series...I know! Movies are a bit tougher but here are some favorites...The Devil Wears Prada, Gone with the Wind, Pretty Woman, (and because it's almost holiday time) Home Alone and The Santa Clause.

Those pancakes look delicious! In my childhood we lived on a farm in northern Wisconsin surrounded by maple trees, I have very fond memories of helping my dad “sugar off” the sap, & keeping the fire going under the big vat/cauldron where we made the best maple syrup ever, so I am a maple syrup snob too! One of my favs in books is The Dragon Riders of Pern Series by Anne MacCaffrey (and anything else she wrote) Also, I love all the classics, especially Jane Austen, the Brontë sisters, Edgar Allen Poe, & Hemmingway. Not much of a movie watcher though. I do have a thing for all the musicals & old cinema like Gone with the Wind, Casablanca, etc…

That stuff about never seeing the boy again... my heart broke for you just hearing that part.
But then getting punished for it? Your uncle comes into town (someone who you would think would want to protect you), and then you have to eat in the bathroom because he was in town?
Its all just so backwards... you didnt even do anything wrong.
That treatment is cruel and unusual for a kid that actually makes poor choices... or any person for that matter.
And it happened to you guys just for having feelings regular human emotion? Sick.
I wonder if the boy recieved similar treatment...
Anyway, I was surprised that the departed was on your list... 😂 But it is a good movie, I agree!
    Great video as always Jenna

I read my 2 kids the HP books when they were small, and I fell in love with them!! So much so, that when I babysat years ago, I made all the kids capes, wands and brooms. I made a snitch to tie to the clothes line so they could play Quidditch. My grown kids and I are still crazy for HP. The three of us just got small deathly hallow tattoos this year. lol

I feel the exact same about Harry Potter books. Way better than the movies. I used them as an escape when I was a kid. I'm 38 and to this day that is one of the most important book series in my life because of how comforting they are. I used to get in trouble because when a new book was released I'd stay up ALL night reading.

I love movies that make me laugh & make fun of the human experience. In no order & these are just a few I can think of, We’re the Millers, Love Actually, Horrible Bosses, Planes, Trains & Automobiles, What About Bob, Bridesmaids & so many others. The books I read are a little darker. I mean I read yours ❤ & you did a great job. You need a sequel! I read true crime & cult books. Basically solving true crimes & people who leave a cult. So for me movies are for laughs & books are more serious. Your pancakes look delicious! Sounds like something yummy to make for my family when they’re all here for Christmas or something. Thank you! Oh! My husband & my oldest daughter are HUGE Harry Potter fans! I need to read the books!

Ah Jenna as always, it was nice to spend 27:11 some time with you on a Sunday. My movies. Let's see. " Click" with Adam Sandler. I really like Casablanca with Humphrey Bogart. The Old Man and the Sea of course I like Goodfellas but that movie speaks to me culturally because I'm from Brooklyn my mother is Sicilian so I was immersed in that culture most of my life but fortunately I was able to navigate away from that life a few years back. Funny how the mob and Scientology are very alike in many ways. I really think they could indict your uncle under the RICO statutes. With the RICO statutes you only need to charge them with two predicate crimes and your uncle is guilty of more than two. I know he's committed various financial crimes as well as possible trafficking end child abuse. One might argue well he's not directly involved in it but with the RICO statutes if you're involved in an organization that commits crimes on an ongoing basis for financial gain everyone involved is guilty. That's how they brought down or severely weakened the gambino crime family as well as the other New York crime families. Back then the problem is they couldn't get the bosses because they were insulated by layers of soldiers and captains but with the RICO statue, they were able to go after the bosses. I could go on and on about that lol. Anyways Jenna have a wonderful day and thank you for the video you always brighten my day. I would love to see a movie where a member of Cosa Nostra( the American Mob) becomes a Scientologist and then he realizes it's a bunch of b******* so he blows and the church tries to fair game him OMG that would be hilarious. There would be a bunch of private investigators that left their body hahaha

You got me with this video. Yeah movies are a big source of comfort for sure, this world is harsh enough at the best of times. Thanks for replying on another video about the future viability of the church. Before I really delved-into Scientology aside from Dianetics I considered approaching the church, along with other organizations such as the masons who never got back to me fortunately. This was because I needed sanctuary.
I'm writing my own book about my somewhat strange life so I found your book publishing video insightful, only thing is i'm not ever going on CNN lol. I need to watch the 'departed' again cause I missed the funny bits. We only ever found one movie that made my mother laugh, 'My Cousin Vinny' with Joe Pesci. Don't forget - It's a wonderful life.

What on Earth kind of life is that, and why does anyone put up with it? My god. It's mental torture and abuse. I am so glad you got out.
My all-time favorite movie is the 1973 musical version of "Lost Horizon." It starts off in a war zone (they never show anything bloody or gory though), from which a diplomat and a handful of other Americans are trying to escape. They get on the last plane out after helping so many others board planes to safety, and then it crashes in the mountains (all the passengers live). What happens next is so beautiful and fulfilling and charming. I was 12 when it came out in theaters and my parents dropped my sister and me off to see it, so it's kid friendly if your kids are a little on the older side. The ending just makes my heart sing every time.
Thank you for the pancakes. They look really delicious!

Well, drat, my first comment doesn't show up. So I will try to reconstruct it.
    1. I'm glad you had some magical books to help you through some terrible times!
    2. My favorite book in the world is "Pride and Prejudice." I'm sure I've read it 20 times, and watched every single film or BBC version. It's not everybody's cup of tea because Jane Austen's writing is very convoluted, as was the style of her time. But I think she also writes with perfect clarity, and she is dryly hilarious, IMO.
    3. If you like British humor, you might enjoy "Cold Comfort Farm," "Enchanted April," and anything by PG Wodehouse (they are all movies, too-- well I think PG Wodehouse's "Jeeves and Wooster" might be a Britcom series).
    4. I also love, love love any books by Louise Erdrich, Ann Patchett, Ursula K LeGuin, Terry Pratchett.
    5. Some favorite movies: I am not usually a big fan of Will Farrell, but I LOVED "Stranger than Fiction." My daughters love "Zoolander" so much that they made Halloween costumes of the main characters when they were in college. We also watched the Paddington movies, mostly because we wondered how they had 100% ratings on Rotten Tomatoes. They were delightful! The latest version of "Emma" is wonderful, too (the one with Anya Talor Joy and Bill Nighy). As is "Clueless," a modern retelling of that story.
    6. TV series (on Netflix) that I loved: "Sens8" (kinda violent sometimes, but GORGEOUS and so moving), "Extraordinary Attorney Woo" (a Korean rom com), "Chocolate" (also Korean), and "Hometown Cha Cha Cha" (also Korean).

    Everybody loves pancakes!
Saturday Morning Pancake Parties to have listening sessions with the band from the prior nights gig and making it a podcast are the way to go imho...
Somebody should tell Kelli Coptor ✌🏼

I love that you love Stranger Than Fiction! If you like existentialist comedies you should watch I Heart Huckabees, it is my favorite movie. Dustin Hoffman is one of the main characters.

Favorite book: The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern. The narrator of the audio version is the same guy who does the HP books. ❤

I agree. Love hp. You should try reading the Asterix comic books. Light humour really. Good to fall asleep to. I found hp is very popular in scn.

Hp was my escape too. Got a bit dark towards the end of the series though.

The Harry Potter books are definitely funnier than the movies. The books helped keep me sane and alive in a time when I didn't want to be either. Also, your movie choices are pretty great.

Yes I love the Harry Potter books, escaping into another world is wonderful and the movies don’t hold a candle to the books. My daughter hates Harry Potter, it’s so sad and disappointing, I don’t know how this happened. She also refuses to watch Buffy the Vampire Slayer , it’s the heartache of my life. 😢😅😊😊

I think I’ll listen again and write down how much of each ingredient is called for. I’ll then collect the ingredients, measure out, replay this video and essentially actually make them with you while watching. Sounds silly but fun.

Love fantasy series. Harry Potter is definitely in my top 3. I started reading right before the last book came out. I read the series over and over again for a year. Had to make myself stop lol

Crispy pancakes would have started to caramalise. We have a food called magwenya or vetkoek translated fat cake it's a deep fried food can be eaten savory or dessert. Not to be confused with koeksuster no real translation it's a platted sweet dough deep fried and soaked in syrup when hot it's diabetes in a bite. If you looking to import some comfort food.

@ she is that!!! How’s Espoo doing? Lots of snow yet? I was in Finland on assignment during midsummer, then for a wedding in December. Missed winter solstice by 1 day. I lived in the Kaivapousta (sorry for the spelling) area when i was there. Wentbto Turkku and Oulu, too. Can you tell I miss it? Stockmann’s had the best tzatziki. Yum!! And Finnish bread, i miss it soooooo much. Take care!
