  • In this tutorial, we will see 3 different ways to save your Fusion effects and how to make templates using macros that can be applied and customized from the Edit page. We will also brush over creating your own custom controls for your templates to link with expressions to any parameters. The subject is pretty dense and as we couldn't cover everything in 1 video, feel free to ask any question in the comment section.

    • @CoreAndBlue
      @CoreAndBlue  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! There is several ways to make your panels more optimized. First and simplest is to only select the controls that are absolutely necessary to your macro templates. Then you can add label controls from the edit controls window that can help you separate different sections or even create scrolling menus that can collapse. Otherwise juste separate them into different tabs from the edit controls window.
      We personally code them completely in an editor like Atom as settings files are written in the Lua language. A bit more technical but you can then do so much more.
      We would have to do a tutorial dedicate to advanced controls and panels.

    This is so useful when we work with more people and share the titles and other things. Great! Talking about this, did you see the newest version of Resolve 17.2.. has this new kind of fusion bundles, how this work?

    • @CoreAndBlue
      @CoreAndBlue  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes exactly, there is so many good reason to create templates to personally use or share. The DRFX is an archive to bundle several templates in one package. It is actually a simple .zip file that can be structured with folders and that you rename to .drfx
      Super handy to bundle together a family of effect. Thank you for watching! 😊

    • @CoreAndBlue
      @CoreAndBlue  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Another thing that is super handy when you want to share your effects is that you can drag and drop the .drfx in the fusion page where you would have normally have your nodes to have Resolve installing them automatically.

      It is definitely possible to make any imported media customizable by replacing MediaIn nodes by Loader nodes. There’s a lot more to it in term of features but as long as you expose the Loader node by checking it inside the Macro editor, you’ll be able to swap any image from the Edit page.

  • @yosachaiko9969
    @yosachaiko9969 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Update: I was selecting the template and keyframe stretcher before. But the first time I did this and it worked, was when I selected the template, keyframe stretcher, AND the media out. Then unselected the media out for output. Don't know what would happen if it was on though. But I tried this again where I drag select the template, keyframe stretcher, AND media out. Then selected all the text and shading options I wanted, unchecked the output for media out and now I have all the options I want and the keyframe stretcher still works.
    Problem I Had: Please help. When I saved as macro and only checked the text options down to the size, the keyframe stretcher was working on the macro. I tried to save it again with some of the shading options from tabs 1 and 2 from opacity, blending, appearance and the color options. Now the keyframe stretcher doesn't work anymore even though its still being checked for result. I was hoping that going into fusion would let me access all the other options that it had before when it was a text+. But whatever you check is all you can access and theres no way to get to the other options. I tried saving it with only some text options checked again, result still checked on the keyframe stretcher, and output checked on template. But now it won't even work that way. I can't get it to use the keyframe stretcher, it acts like it doesn't exist now. My template was made from a Text+.

    Thx for the vid! It doesnt seem that Macros effects can have automation keyframes from the edit page, can you confirm ? There is no automation icons and the keyframes doesnt do anything.

    • @CoreAndBlue
      @CoreAndBlue  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      First thank you for watching and your comment! Very appreciated.
      Yes, keyframing is defined within the composition itself and cannot be edited from the edit page. This is why we recommend using time stretching or anim curves rather than keyframes alone for animation so the composition can scale and adjust to match any frame rate.
      To manually edit existing keyframes, you would have to open the composition inside Fusion (using the fusion icon in the inspector), do your business and return to the edit page.

  • @nathitappan
    @nathitappan 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Sorry, last question on this (can't promise about other topics haha): I see you have specific nodes for Effect In and Effect Out. Is that just for organization purposes? I'm having a hard time choosing something after the Keyframe Stretcher to use as an output and I can't seem to find a box to check output on that node. I'm wondering if I should use a simple transform node at the end to use somewhat like your "Effect_Out" node. Does that make sense to you or is there a smarter way to do it? I prefer to be organized without extra clutter. Let me know! TIA!

    • @CoreAndBlue
      @CoreAndBlue  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We do like having our nodes tree clean and organized and using dedicated nodes as input and output has several benefits like easily isolating them in the Macro editor or directly in the Lua code (we code a lot of our macro outside of Fusion). They are then also a perfect place to add custom controls and tools. Recommending using either a transform, merge or custom node for this purpose.
      Feel free to ask any questions. :)

  • @jfresquito

    Hi , after creating a macro (a text with entry and exit animation) in Fusion, when importing it in the Edit tab, how do I adjust the entry and exit animations as we adjust the size of the clip? I don't know if I'm explaining myself, that is, what I want is that when I import a macro to the timeline in the Edit tab, the entry and exit animations are adjusted whether I want the clip to last 30 frames, or that if it lasts 500 frames. I want the enter animation to be at the beginning of the clip and the exit animation to be at the end of the clip, regardless of whether I shorten or lengthen the duration of the clip.
    I think I once saw how it was done but I don't remember how or where. I hope you can answer. Thank you very much!

      I recommend using Anim Curves. Check this video to learn more about it: th-cam.com/video/NIIhxZf8j34/w-d-xo.html

    I really appreciate your videos. They are excellent. I am confused about how to edit a macro. It seems that it has to be located in the Macro folder to show up on the dropdown list of editable macros. If I have it in a custom folder in the Edit folder it does not show up in the dropdown list of editable macros. Do you have a video that explains this? I think I've watched them all but I didn't see my question addressed. (Or I missed it). Thanks so much for your fantastic videos!

    • @CoreAndBlue
      @CoreAndBlue  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      First, thank you very much for your apreciation. We did mention at some point in various videos the difference between those different folders but here's a clear explanation:
      DaVinci Resolve look at the folder structure to determine how to handle a composition. To become a macro and thus appear inside the macro contextual menu, the .setting file has to be saved inside the default Macro folder. Otherwise, if you save it inside the Edit or Fusion folders, it will become a template and will only appear inside the Effects Library:
      Also, very important, the subfolder that you choose (Effects, Titles or Transition) will instruct DaVinci Resolve how a composition can be applied on a clip or timeline.
      Don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions. :)

    Online services like Motion Array have Templates. From what I understand you open then as a project. I also believe you can only have one project open at a time. Can their effects be exported in the manner that showed and then imported into my own template, thus creating the best of from many Templates?
    I appreciate the great videos btw.

      Looks like we didn't get notified of your message so first, sorry for the late reply and thank you!
      Motion Array ressources, unlike the one we are building aren't proper templates and indeed work by restoring .dra project archives or .drp files before you can use any of their assets. Those are definitely pretty messy to use and aren't the most versatile.
      You could certainly reverse engineer an effect and create a template out of it but it might not be the easiest or cleanest thing to do depending of your experience and how they designed it.
      Otherwise, if you are looking for quality templates packs, we can vouch for MotionVFX and you can get a nice discount with the code COREANDBLUE at checkout: motionvfx.sjv.io/n16P16

    Wow thanks, i searched a long time before finding your video which is exactly what I search (the macro save as in effects to reuse it in Edit Page). All others just show the basic trick with the save as settings in fusion page, but it is much more elegant to do a template simply usable in the edit page so great thanks !
    But i have one probleme, when I use my template, all the value I exposed, seem to have a bug with animation. Indeed i can create a key, it becomes red, but when i move the time in the edit page, it keep red and the left/right arrow to indicate that a key existes before/after didn't appear. If i change the value, it animated nothing it seem to write always at the same time. Have you and idea ?

      @CoreAndBlue  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you very much for those nice words! We'll have an in depth video about creating custom controls coming this week. Perfect for building neat and powerful templates.
      The problems with keyframes and templates are that keys are only editable within the composition and not in the edit page. Keyframes are ok for fixed animations but they do require setting "time streching" inside the keyframe editor to properly scale to any lenght or framerate.
      If you really need to edit your keys, use the "Open in Fusion" icon on the top right of the inspector to open this instance of your template inside the Fusion page. You'll be able to change anything you need before switching back to the Edit page.
      A more elegant way to deal with animation is using Anim Curves as they allow any animation to automatically scale up or down depending of the lenght of the clip. Here's a video where we build a template using Anim Curves: th-cam.com/video/NIIhxZf8j34/w-d-xo.html

    Hello again here Core and Blue. I have an other question on templates for edit pages. Have you got some clue for this. I have made a fusion comp whose goal is to display multiple clips simultaneously. For example one left, one middle, one right. I dont find an elegant way to use it easily at 100% in edit page as for effect sor a transition. I use it as a generator, but I have to go inside the fusion page of the generator to import and connect my media to my fusion macro group. In the edit page I can manipulate the parameters thanks to some controls I have exposed (thanks to your awesome tutorials again ^^ ) it is almost perfect. I would just avoid this manipulation of going inside to connect the media to the group as for transitions where the two medias are already connected. So finally i could resume my question as : How do use make a template for manipulating multiple media (more than 2) and in the same time (so not for a transition) ? Thanks for your help :D

    • @CoreAndBlue
      @CoreAndBlue  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Maxime, 😊
      The way the MediaIn tool and Fusion clips work, your only option (without advanced scripting) as far as my modest knowledge goes is as you seem to be doing. Make a Fusion clip with all 3 tracks and apply your template from inside the Fusion page.
      This is because within the timeline, a Fusion clip in handled as 1 single clip and any effect applied over it will only have access to a single MediaIn. You can see that after applying your template and opening it using the Fusion icon from withing the inspector effects tab.

      If you would like to be able to access the loader while working in the edit page, you need to make sure that the path option for the loader node is checked within the Macro editor window.

    Hello good sir! May I ask a question: I recently made a TH-cam Subscribe, notification and bell logo in fusion. I invested more than 3 hours into this. I saved this as a .comp file and just today I opened it back up and try to edit the text on it because I decided to change my channel’s name. Now when I play in edit or in fusion page, either the logo icons shrunk in size (without me changing them) or it gives me a red “media offline” screen even though I haven’t moved anything. I have been so frustrated trying to correct this the last two days. If I have to, I can redo this whole thing, but I don’t want to screw this up again. Can you guide as to what I should to avoid this again? Thank you

    • @CoreAndBlue
      @CoreAndBlue  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey, happy to help. There are actually few different ways to solve this. Let's first start by the issues that you are facing and why this is happening:
      - If some elements are changing size, it usually means that your composition is resolution dependent ans dos not scale automatically to your timeline resolution.
      - Imported assets appearing offline means that Fusion cannot reconnect to the source files. Note that images that you import aren't saved within the comp file.
      Try the following step by step before trying anything else.
      1. Place all the assets in the same folder as your comp file.
      2. Create a new Fusion comp in your Media Pool (right click -> New Fusion Composition)
      3. Drag this empty fusion composition in your timeline, right click on it and choose Open in Fusion.
      4. Once in Fusion, click on File, Import, Fusion Composition. Choose the comp file that you previously created.
      5. This will automatically import all the assets to your Media Pool and relink them inside the node tree. Your comp should then work as intended.
      Other ways to avoid this kind of issues and make your workflow cleaner is to create a Macro template and use Loaders instead of MediaIn nodes. You can then change any Loader file path to "setting:\FileName.png" and make sure that all files are placed in the same folder as the template .setting file.
      Let us know if this solved your issue.

    Question: if I saved the macro, can I ever go back into my original node tree to make modifications? I can't seem to find how and I would like to add an output after my "keyframe stretcher" node....

    • @CoreAndBlue
      @CoreAndBlue  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You sure can and there are a few ways to do so depending on how you saved your macro. There is going to be some reading. :)
      When using the macro editor to build and save a new macro, you can either chose Save As.. or Save as Group.. The first option locks your macro inside a single node to avoid any accidental modifications while the second option save your nodes as a group that you can expand to reveal what's inside and edit. I would recommend making sure to always have a backup macro saved as a group in a different folder.
      Ok so...
      If your macro was saved as a group, just drag it inside a new Fusion clip and right click on it to ungroup and edit.
      If you saved it as a locked macro, you'll have to directly edit the .setting file that contains your macro. Don't worry, it's actually really simple.
      - Go to the Fusion page and in the effects library, right click on your macro to choose "Show Folder". This will open your file explorer or finder.
      - Drag your macro .setting file inside a text editor, and at the top of all that code, just replace "MacroOperator" with "GroupOperator". Make sure that you write it exactly as this.
      - Save and that's it. The next time you add your macro to a Fusion clip, it will be contained in a group that you can edit.
      Let us know if you need further help.

      Alright, the issue with using images this way is that the image (I guess a png file) isn't stored within your template and that there is no clear path to where to look for it. Place your image inside the same folder as your template .settings file and replace the MediaIn node by a Loader. In the inspector, change the file path to setting:\FileName.png

      We will actually talk about the loader node in our next video but here's a little bit of extra help just in case. A loader is a node that can load a media (video, image, sound) within the node editor. You can right click directly on your MediaIn, choose replace node and in the I/O section, choose Loader. It will open a file explorer window automatically that you can close as you want the image to be linked dynamically to the image that you placed in the same folder as your macro. In the inspector, go to the File tab and for filename, type setting:\YourImageName.png.

But the MediaIn has no "background" to select and when I try to use it in the edit page. The effect is there in the list but I cannot apply it to anything. I can't even add it as a generator.
    It's like it has no input even when I include the media in node in the macro. I also tried excluding the media in and out from the macro but leaving the connections to them when I make the macro (as in, they are connected as nodes but not selected when doing the macro).
    Looking at this tutorial I see that you are using nodes called "effect in" and "effect out".. but I see no such tools available in my fusion.

      Hey, sorry for the late reply. So, the issue that you have is that the MediaIn node is a direct link to a single instance of a media existing inside 1 specific project and it cannot be used for templates. You need to use another type of node as your input (background and or foreground) like in my example where I simply renamed my input and output (You can use Merge or Transform nodes) as Effect In and Effect Out for clarity. Check again the video, as you might have missed when I explained that.
