Absolutely FANTASTIC , I would love to be back in this era again - no mobile phones , social media , gas guzzling unreliable Fords and British Rail - Oh and the Marquee Club !
Quo when they were Quo, at that time they were Quo and had never entertained any thought of being anything else but Quo. They were the finest exponents of Rock/Rhythm'n'Blues/Boogie/Goodtime Music on the Planet Earth! Then Coghlan left, things changed etc etc but they still produced the best Quo-type music of all time! Quo oh-oh-oh, oh
No one ever came close to Quo playing that Head-Bangin' Shuffle Beat, I have many a sore head and neck to prove it!! The most exciting and thrilling bands I ever saw live
I saw them in Scarborough in 1975 I think it was. I was deaf for the whole of the next day and still can't hear high-pitched sounds like crickets. Worth it though.
I have been deaf ever since watching them at Liverpool Empire in the early 70s Bruce.I only have one functioning ear now.Worth it as you say .Jim.Liverpool.
Oddly enough, I found out this week that my sister-in-law has had tinnitus since seeing the Quo in Plymoth 25 years ago. The gift that keeps on giving. None of us would not have gone to the show, though.
Having gigged, extensively myself, in the USA (as a blues musician) I can never understand why Quo never made it there. Playing this sort of material and other "bluesy" stuff they could've been H-U-G-E on the blues scene.
They got into some fight with the management and didn't bother to make it big there anyway... A pity, as you said: with that brand of music and that level of musicianship, they would have been HUGE.
Quo is my All Time favourite sound.1967 Matchstick men..1972 ,Germany, Pile-driver, blond hash,French crystal,I was in speed-ball hyper-drive...no more speed..always Quo
From 72 thru 75 I worked in the West End and would often go into the Marquee after work. Saw some wonderful bands during that time. Including this very gig! Thank you for posting. Its magic!!!
I love this clip, its usually over dubbed with the album version for any dvd or tv clip put out, but this is the raw clip pukka !! I have these two clips on vid, auired years ago, im sure there must be someone out there that has the whole gig on vid or transfered to dvd, id love to see the whole gig as would many Fans of the FF era, surprised the management has put it out there
jonemz I guess this is a confession, but realised the live '76 album production on Coughlan's playing was poor i always felt, but watching close up it's so obvious the sound didn't fit what the man was thrashing out ! (seen them 18 times),no big deal, but i want to make a point about John Coughlan. I crancked the mystery song up max everything on a bose system in a country house once, and wow,he is thumping the bass like he want's to trash it ! Man at the back,i never appreciated how fucking great he played,i was always too far away live in big venues where the sound was never great, wembley a great example! I apologise for my ignorance,it was only a recent work mate who enticed me to re-establish this in my own mind, and here i am in nostalgia LOL ! JOHN COUGHLAN aka SPUD (see old footage of bye bye johnny, poor quality sound in b&w,but he's killing the snare and hat)
That brought back some memories! If that was the gig with free entry with a melody maker ad, then I was there! Best Rick Parfitt guitar. I have wanted a junior ever since I saw that working in temper.😊
Very interesting to hear how Francis' lead guitar playing has developed and dare I say vastly improved over the years. He is so much more confident and fluid nowadays, and his guitar has been worked on and improved with the G&L bridge it sports today.
+Kenny M Though he has partially retired the Green Tele these days. It now has a Gibson Bridge back on it again. Though personally I don't like the sound of the Lace Sensor Pickups it now has. Prefer the biting sound of the old single coils.
Both Rossi and Parfitt sounded so much better using the Sound City amps - when they switched to higher gain Marshalls their sound changed for the worse unfortunately..
The best Rocking band of the world: Status Quo, the Frantic Four!!! There is no substitute! Still love them. I am now living for Christ, but all they sang in years of the 70- and 80-ies has all come true for me. It's like one big prophetic Revelation to sing the songs from those years! Unbelievable, but it is really true. Only the song 'Reason for Living' didn't come out, because my prayers where Answered(!) by Jesus Christ! Halleluja! And yes, she was wasting my time, but helped me find the Lord Jesus Christ!
I saw on New Zealand TV in 1976 these 2 songs PLUS they also played Roadhouse Blues from the same gig. An Irish guy I chatted with said he saw the TV clip of Quo at this gig playing Bye Bye Johnny. Has anyone else seen these clips? What the hell happened to the master tapes of those 2 classic clips?
I love how Francis swithches from the jump blues style lead guitar, to a more Delta blues style in the middle of "dont waste my time", roundabout 2:33, then back to the jump blues style at 2:48.
well, all their 'Studio' recordings back then have been Live performances! Full Equipment into the Studio, Rehearse and then play it Live while recording. Rocking all over the world was the first LP that was recorded using different tracks. There you go.
They invented it !!! this what we're listening to is the 'QUO' the only 'QUO' the original band with Bob young nothing else comes close, roll on 2014 frantic four again... cant wait...........!!!!!!!!!
Proud to have been on their road crew, it was Rick who got me the job in the first place. 😊
Wow! Tell us what they were all like. 🎸🎸
Absolutely FANTASTIC , I would love to be back in this era again - no mobile phones , social media , gas guzzling unreliable Fords and British Rail - Oh and the Marquee Club !

Hohoho, hohoho. Quo talibans, ohohhhhohhhh
This is the best of Quo, they were never better than this.
Dead right from 70 to 74 unmatchable!
Yes, this was their great period, around Piledriver and they reached their climax with the album Live 1977. This is really great, totally great.
No one ever came close to Quo playing that Head-Bangin' Shuffle Beat, I have many a sore head and neck to prove it!! The most exciting and thrilling bands I ever saw live

I was working there at the Marquee when this happened, fab night .
I saw them in Scarborough in 1975 I think it was. I was deaf for the whole of the next day and still can't hear high-pitched sounds like crickets. Worth it though.
What, are there crickets out there making high-pitched sounds?? :-)
(long-time Quo fan too)!
+Bruce Rouffian WHAT?
+David Flaherty WHAT?

My girlfriend gave me Hello! as a Christmas present in 1973 and I got hooked at once.
Nothings beats this, nothing comes close. Status Quo performing Don't Waste My Time - the legend in full flow.
Parfitt the engine, vastly under-rated musician R.I.P. man.
NOBODY did it like Quo.
Listen to Lancasters bass line! It's what's makes this song so great! Simple, but so f...ing powerful!
What id give to go back to the 70's. First time i saw Quo in 75 they were at their peek. Get goosebumps thinking of that gig. RIP Rick and Alan
"Played rock & roll as if they invented it" great words, they certainly owned it
This Was QUO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Quo is my All Time favourite sound.1967 Matchstick men..1972 ,Germany, Pile-driver, blond hash,French crystal,I was in speed-ball hyper-drive...no more speed..always Quo
I've only seen Status Quo twice, the first time at Butlins in the 60s & this show at The Marquee.
No one does this better.... no one....!
FOGHAT come pretty close
QUO ARMY still going strong after all these years 62 i reckon it to be and over 118m albums sold . ROCK ON FRANCIS MICHAEL ROSSI.

God what an awesome clip.....they were red hot in the 70's no other hard rock band could touch them then!!
Paper Plane, Quo at their finest
the best rock and blues band ever :)
Status Quo: over 6000 live shows. The Rolling Stones: ca.3000.

Tears of joy. Grinning like an idiot. Superb stuff.

There would have been no Status Quo if it weren't for Rick Parfitt. Rhythm machine

astute comment. Listening to this I thought they sounded so much sharper.
What a great clip, thanks so much for posting. This is THE Quo before other producers turned them into a pop band.
THIS IS QUO! The other thing is a cabaret ensemble.
quo, and slade, should do other tour together, rocking all over england tour, would be bloody brillant,

Timeless. Rick whacking the fuck out of that Gibson. Essential rock.
Smashing Smashing Smashing,
No band plays like this anymore.
'Don't waste my time', great example of modern jump blues. the genre actualy pre-dates rock and roll.
Love the Quo!
Best Que song ever. Rossi had the same guitar for over 40 years now. That itself is amazing.
+Anders Lindberg Same guitar but different pick ups, bridge, neck and tuners, not sure about the strap.
+colin tapp Sorry Anders forgot to mention that on this video he's got a Telecaster not the Strat one normally associates with Francis.
I loved Quo back in the day still do. Great live.
Simply the best
