Guys, this was a very entertaining episode, but if you’ve seen my undying and relentless opinions on Instagram, you know.... you couldn’t pay me $40 to drink eagle rare. 😳 *gasp* .... of those three I would take makers 46. But also... I’d probably take WT 101 over all three. That’s why Whiskey is fun. But most importantly, nice video.

I’d like to see you guys do this test but with your favorite bourbons. No price limit. No regulations. You guys just bring in your favorites and have a blind tasting.
Guys, Great show and hope you can do more in the future, say every couple of months or so at other price points. These blind tastings are the BEST way to judge. UFR!!! Still trying to develop my palate. The other day the first thing that popped into my mind when I sipped a bourbon was “floral”. Floral? Where’d that come from? You guys are rubbing off. Good video. . I've had Eagle Rare and Woodford, but not Makers' 46. My favorite bourbons are Jim Beam Black, OGD 114, Knob Creek, and Elijah Craig. OGD at cask strength is terrific.
this was great and super fun. It really goes to show how subjective the palette can be.
Based on your descriptions I was able to guess which whiskey was which, so good job on that.

My guess was blue = ER 10yr too based on Dillon's description and glad to see that it came out on top. It's a great bourbon for sure for the price point. It is even better (more interesting) than the 17 year believe it or not.
The ultimate though for me is the BT Sazerac 17 year any vintage year really. Before I leave this earth, I shall have it again! Tough to find at anything less than $900 but would be worth it for a very special occasion. It's THAT good!!
Any of the other two bourbons (M46 and WR) are great choices too. Nothing wrong with these either but ER would be my go to. WR Rye is up there also along with Elijah Craig at this price point
My favorite under 40 is Willett Potstill reserve then Johnny drum 3would be old bardstown. I love everything Willett does.

Inspired by your episode, did some blind tasting with your three picks with a bunch of people during our Easter party. 5 men, 3 women. Everyone found it very difficult to tell the difference and no one picked their favorites. Fun to try! Thanks for video.

Eagle Rare is a great choice. Also, you should do ranked choice (automatic run off) voting for these to get a more accurate ranking.

I enjoy both WR and M46. In my area M46 is less expensive so I go for that. I haven't tried ER and now I think I should.
You guys, I could not have asked for a better Friday night episode. I even got my wife to watch the whole thing with me. I look forward every week and this week you really outdid yourselves. I know I harp on blind tastings but as this one shows, unless you are Dutch, you may not pick your "favorite". Jules, no bringing the "balance" this week? Just kidding. All three are fine bourbons for the price. It was priceless to see Jules, Dillon and Ben so confidently pick another bourbon than the one they thought. Someone needs to keep an eye on Dutch. How did he do that? Congrats on another great episode! What's next? Best bourbon under $80? under $100?

I did a 4 sample taste test at a local bourbon restaurant between Blantons, Eagle Rare, Buffalo Trace, and Weller and definitely had Eagle Rare 3rd. My picks were neck and neck Blantons and Weller (Blantons won) then Eagle Rare, then Buffalo Trace.
Great Concept! Blind tastings are big fun, but there are a lot of factors that come into play not to mention personal taste preferences. Sometime soon, I would like to line up a round of at least 3 tasting done on different days to see if an individual's favorite holds up across all 3 tastings. I think its great that you have 4 tasters on the panel and its appears there is enough differences in the palates that the panel represents a broad spectrum of personal preferences. Have you compiled a composite of all your individual scores on reviews that would allow me to align with one of your palates so I could "team up" ?

Too funny. I can almost never get Eagle in Austin, but I go to my office in San Francisco and find 6 bottles at a wine shop close by.
All 3 are so distinct in taste, everyone should know what’s what.
Blind tastings make for some of your best shows, would like to see more maybe in different price categories. Maybe even have the ER thrown back in to compete against the 40-60, 60-100 picks.
You guys dont know how good you have it (to be able to purchase at a grocery store/drug store). From DC/MD/VA... cant even comprehend how amazingly convenient that must be

Work at 1792 Distillery, Eagle Rare & Woodford Reserve Double Oak is the best bang for my buck.

Great review guys. I just happen to have the 3 culprits at hand so tried the blind taste. I found little difference in the three apart from the nose on the Woodfords being the strongest. The winner in the end was Makers. This is a great way to taste different Bourbons, keep up the good work.

IIRC Buffalo Trace makes Eagle Rare. You'll probably like it. :) I like it and Elijah Craig, but I have yet to try Buffalo Trace. Of those in the blind challenge, I need to try Maker's 46. My list of stuff to try just keeps growing. ;)
Knob Creek Single Barrel Reserve Store Pick is at my local Kroger in Louisville, KY for 39.99 and it's the real MVP of the bourbon world at that price.

I'll cosign this comment. For the price + proof + drinkability, Knob Creek single barrel is probably the best bourbon on the market.
Knob creek is my favorite as well. So glad I live in Kentucky where the best bourbon is cheap. You should check our old bardstown as well

Eagle rare is in my top 3 daily drinkers. #1 Eagle rare. #2 Woodford Reserve. #3 Jefferson’s small batch. ER has a Nice flavor, it’s a ridiculously easy drinker, and has an absolutely amazing finish. A 10 year bourbon for under $40. Can’t beat it!! Thanks for proving my point to all my bourbon drinking friends 😂

Makers 46, heck yes :) My fav in that price range, really hard to beat unless you spend more.
Eagle Rare is a favorite of mine at any price point. It’s also one of the only 10yrs you can find at that price point.
Question to any and all: Is Eagle Rare the same juice in the Buffalo Trace bottle aged a few more years? Or is there more to it? Thanks!

I know right? Haven't seen it in two f#@king years here in Central Ohio! Took a trip to CA earlier this week and there it is, sitting on the shelf at $29.99 at Total Wine.
I would have bought more than one but my budget is tight these days, at least until the kids finish college so I can work full time again and we have 2 incomes...

But yeah, blind tastings are the best videos....I would have liked to see you guys take it further and not know until the end what everyone else brought.
I think this year is the best one for eagle rare.
I did this challenge, I would have guessed (for my liking) 1 Woodford, 2 M46 and 3 ER. But when I sampled blind, M46 won in all aspects, ER next and Woodford was dead last! Maybe the Woodford was a bad batch?!?!?
I would've brought Buffalo Trace to the table, which still lost to M46 during my tasting! Keep these challenges coming, would like to see my favorite Michters in the under $50.

New to drinking bourbon, first bottle happened to be Wellers. Was curious why no Weller?
Weller is made by Buffalo Trace, as is Eagle Rare. Damn fine bourbon, especially the Weller Antique.
