  • R&R of Valve stem seals on my 78 trans am, but the process applies to all GM engines still running the factory style O-ring seals.

    Some of the better back ground music I've heard in a video.

    Awesome video man. It's good that you reinforce the fact that folks need to be completely sure they don't drop the valve.

      Yeah it's not bad of a job, just long, you don't want to get into a rush, if ya drop a valve you're having a bad day for sure. Thanks for watching

    Thanks for making the video. My old Pontiac needs some valve guide seals so I wanted to watch a video to make sure I place the seal correctly. Don't forget to remove the Schrader valve from the compression tester. I've always removed the keepers with a magnet since I tend to drop them.

    Great video. I love how angry you get at the thought of people not heeding your advice about dropping the valves lol.

    No you are correct about putting the seal on after spring, seems you've learned from error which in my opinion is the best way most of the time

    nicely explained. but i would like to suggest that u shouldnt place the camera on the side where ur hand interrupts the shoot. also u mentioned that we will hear the hammering sound to know whether the spring is jam or not. i cudn't hear it because of that music. Though I loved to hear it. It would suit best in the title ot the start. Cheers from India🇮🇳🇮🇳

    I saw you put on the o-ring, but not a valve stem seal on the first valve you did?

    • @classicdriversgarage108
      @classicdriversgarage108  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The heads from the factory aren't machined for the positive stop type or "Umbrella" seals that push down over the guide. These head still run the factory O-ring and shield set up.

    Do you bring the cylinder up before you take the spring apart or just put air in it and go to town

    does anyone know? if after the cylinder in pressurised and piston gets pushed down to BTC will it stay there or will it keep spinning the engine over I ve got some thing called a torque convertor attached to my flywheel and I am worried about the crank sprocket / pully bolt slipping off or spinning loose if piston is pushed counter clockwise

    My car BMW Serie1 116d 2012 190k km. It is burning oil 800g every 800km.
    There is no liking
    There is no smoke at all, black o blue
    There is no oil in the exhausted
    Engine behave pretty normal
    what Flippen is?

  • @49BigPoppa
    @49BigPoppa ปีที่แล้ว

    I don’t understand how this tiny oring keeps oil from going down around the valve stem through the guide, don’t you need the seal that covers the stems and guide to prevent this?

    • @classicdriversgarage108
      @classicdriversgarage108  ปีที่แล้ว

      Pontiac's and any older GM engines never ran the "Postive stop"or viton seals that slip on tight over the guide from the factory, the O-ring and the oil "shield"is all there was, nowadays,when most people have their heads rebuilt, the machine shop will cut the guide to accept seals.
      In my casemy heads have not had the guide cut yet.

    Do you have to put each cylinder at the top before you compress with air?

    • @classicdriversgarage108
      @classicdriversgarage108  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't, however some people say it's better to because it makes it easier for the compressor to keep the chamber full.

    Question - Do you worry about top-dead center and then rotating to close for each before compressing the spring and changing the seals? Or just do it without worrying about closing? Thanks in advance.

    • @classicdriversgarage108
      @classicdriversgarage108  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nope never. Some guys like to bring the piston to TDC if the rings are worn, other then nope, only when adjusting valve lash do make sure lobes are on the base circle
