I was having a bad day and I stumbled across this show.
I lived through that era and remembered all those songs and performers that brought me back to the singing, dancing, flirting that fed my waking hours. I'm in my mid eighties now but like George Burns said "We all get old but we don't have to get old.

1990 I saw Sinatra for the only time in my life in Rockford, Illinois...it was great. I listened to him in the 1940's when a young kid, now at 80 I play him nearly every single day. Nobody ever sang such love songs as he did.
Thanks for posting this. Very much!

I was very lucky; I got to hang out with (whomever showed up) the Rat Pack, at Bings' place in Burlingame CA.
My Dad used to hang out with them, & he was a stunt actor for Frank, Cary Grant & Gary Cooper.
I literally bumped heads with Pearl Bailey. (I was mortified!)
I miss those days, going to one of those early concerts, meeting & hanging out with them. Listening to Big Bands. Dancing to the music.
I hope they're all together in the big bandstand in the sky. Jamming. Just like I was there to hear & see knees) so long ago, in the Way Back machine.

A million-dollar honorarium for the greatest singer of all time, Francis Albert Sinatra! He earned all that glory for what he gave us for almost 60 years of his remarkable musical life, and is still giving us joy with his recordings and film work, which we can pull up and pretend that it's current! Thank you, FS, and RIP now.

So much talent in one room. Every performer and every musician, was just fabulous. The Big Band Era was a great period in American music. Younger artists need to keep this music alive. We can't just let this great art form slip away.

The passing of the Forties/Fifties/Sixties, in my opinion, was the best periods of Blues/Jazz/Swing etc, those moments during a dance, all dancers would stop at the bandstand just to watch the drummer, play his solo Only top glide off again when the whole orchestra kicked back in to finish the dance those,
Ah, those were the days, sadly all of fifty years ago now, how we danced, kissed, & loved in doorways, only to run to catch the last bus home, Memories.

    • @mjlejer3241
      @mjlejer3241 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

I first became aware of Heny Mancini from the song, Baby Elephant Walk" is a song Hank wrote in 1961 for the 1962 film Hatari! In 1963 , the song earned Mancini a Grammy Award for Best Instrumental Arrangement. The tune was written for an impromptu scene in Hatari! in which 'Dallas' ( Elsa Martinelli ) led three baby elephants to a waterhole to bathe! The next year, though, "Pink Panther" probably put him on the world map. I admired Mancini for years and still seek his orchestra numbers and arrangements, he was a superb talent and I was acutely aware of our immense loss when he passed away in 1994.

My Dad (who passed suddenly in Oct 2020) was a Big Band Leader and played with many of the Big Bands and had his own 19 piece orchestra. He would have absolutely gone nuts over this show. When watching that duet with Frank and Ella I must have been smiling throughout without knowing it, because at the end when I realised I was smiling, my face hurt when I started to stop. That’s when you know you’ve truly seen something wonderful....your jowls hurt.

I've watched with such happiness this procession of all these iconic artists
....legendary entairtainers , the coolest talented army and in the flow I've spotted ( 3 times ) Barry MANILOW who would have deserved the stage
considering he is the MAN to sing SINATRA's repertoire . His CD tribute
    " OL' blue eyes " is a must !!!

I've probably either been to in person or via tv, Utube, A/C and a few others venues, but....this was the very, very complete and total performance by ALL.
EVERY SINGLE GUEST , who were all of Franks real friends. They sang with emotion as I've never before. This is Franks kind show...all the way.
Much thanks. I've been a Sinatra fan for about 68-70 years.

I'm surprised no one here had mentioned how great Kay Starr was, she totally jazzed up "What a Difference a Day Makes". Her voice certainly got better with age, you can see Frank was really enjoying it.

You are correct, I guess they broke the mold at the end of this era, because you sure don't hear comparable music today. A few try, but I doubt if we'll have the myriad of talented performers that they had back in those times. We're so glad so many of them made recordings that we can pull up and that makes them live on in our hearts and minds!

I can’t believe he’s been got for over 20 years… the world isn’t the same without him n the rest of the rat pack… may they all Rest In Peace🙏💋❤️
