If you truly believe no one can teach your child better than you can, shouldn’t that lead you to the conclusion that homeschooling is a better option for your child than both public and private schools?

book banning definitely shouldn't be illegal. despite its rampant abuse by groups like moms for liberty, censorship does ultimately have a good use. Take for instance, Amazon banning a book that denied the Holocaust and the events of it. some messages in books are genuinely dangerous and maybe shouldn't be widely available, but the abuse of this system by parents stuck in their own personal bubble is the problem.

I heard an account of what Jason Reynolds (no relation) is talking about when he said obscenity is used as an excuse to challenge whether or not a book should be available for students to read. As I understand it Moms For Liberty or a similar group challenged a book aimed at young people that discusses the civil rights movement. The book mentions the Birmingham Campaign in which fire hoses were turned on the protesters. In the book they note that the force of the hoses was great enough to tear the protesters' clothes off. Because of this the group said this book depicted "nudity" and therefore is not appropriate for a young person to read. Unbelievable.

I feel like a reasonable solution to this, in my opinion, ridiculous fear-mongering is to have sections in school libraries that specifically have these contested books. Students wanting to access these books would, in turn, have a signed permission slip to access these books, ensuring that these books still remain accessible but that parents still have a say in which texts their children are reading.
While parents certainly have the right to choose the kind of education their children receive, I think that the parents advocating the censuring of books addressing topics such as puberty, sexuality, race, and gender identity are doing their children a huge disservice by preventing their children from challenging their worldviews and learning more about their minds, body, the society in which they live, and the wider world. It's really shameful how certain sectors of society, namely hyper-nationalistic conservatives who, ironically, are promoting their ideals under the guise of parental liberty, are weaponizing public education to perpetuate their own political agendas and silence those with whom they disagree. School should a place where students feel free to express themselves and encounter ideals that are similar and different to their own, because this is how people of all ages learn and grow. The best way to serve future generations is to promote ideological discourse rather than turning schools into ideological echo chambers promoting the ideals of select intolerant, paranoid political groups.

Out of those 5 books mentioned at the end, I read Triangles and that book is an adult novel with explicit content. The author mainly writes for teens 14+, but Triangles is an adult one. I wonder why it was in the school’s shelf. The librarians need to do a better job reviewing books and those with sexual content should be in a separate section.

I am beginning to think that if there is an issue with these books that others do not see then is it possible that it is the people wanting to ban these books. It would be easier to ask theses people seek out the schools of their choice for their children. They can start and fund an educational system that fits their ideas of what a school is. Their schools must still meet local, state and national standards. These students will be tracked into the real world. Employers need to know that they were exposed to a substandard educations. This will also show how this education prepared them to work with others that were described in the teaching materials in the books. Employers, must be aware why these now adults cannot function well with others.

I think it's a statement of fact, without opinion. My opinion is that the anti-communist witch hunts of the 1950s was first to gain and maintain power, and second to oppose any and all reform (women's rights, civil rights, union rights, gay rights, immigrant rights, etc.) by calling it communist. Parents were told comic books needed to be banned because it was "corruption of the innocent." Some of the rules under the then-implemented Comics Code Authority was to ban horror comics, such that a man named Marv Wolfman couldn't have his name on the cover because it included the banned term, "wolf-man."
Good people need to realize what's behind book-banning and stand against it, even when proponents say they are protecting the little children. People are trying to fight back, but it may get worse before it gets better.

So crazy...Many of the banned booksI read before leaving high school...Licars. integrated community of very educated and people. Saw Blacks, Asians, Muslims and Latinos just an hour ago on long 2 hr hike through large nearby park.....A year ago when book banning was heating up, our two libraries displayed at least 20 books banned in other places. Could check them out if you have a library card. Can say gay here too..Just no hate talk.

I went to school with all sorts of people but we certainly didn’t think about what each other were while interacting or passing each other unlike what you just demonstrated. Quit focusing on race when you meet or pass people. That IS the problem our society faces now, none of my classmates or me thought about at all just 10 years ago.

I think a lot of people in here need to check out some of the school meetings on here and listen/see what is in some of these books that are being put into school libraries that people want banned. There would probably be a few people changing their minds.

I don't think so. Good people are waking up to support librarians, teachers, professors and LGBTQi youth who are under attack by bullies using fascist tactics. And the bullies are notorious liars, calling a comic book about a gay youth, "triple X pornography."

I think your gender queer books should be treated the same way we treat rated R movies. If they're below the age of 18 they can't buy a ticket. These aren't children's books just because the creator of the book said they were. Let the parents decide how they wanna raise their children.

Banning books by LGBTQi authors won't stop kids growing up as such, unless they commit suicide because they feel wrong and outcast. Teachers, librarians and educators (incl. child psychologists) know better what is age-appropriate than many parents who determine some topics are taboo at home.

This is not about Banning Books. In our modern world with the technology you have, you can't ban books. You can make deliberate choices to stock books on the limited real estate of your libraries but they cannot "ban" books. I wish the media would get their minds away from inflammatory language use their brains instead of parroting special interest groups.

You certainly can and they are banning books from public libraries . BTW, being different does not make a person a special interest group. There is noting inflamatory about minorities wanting to be included and you could use a little education about how to become an antiracist.
