The CVT on the QX55 is well implemented but let’s keep hating on it anyway 😂 And even when actual owners claim that it does not even matter. But let’s keep saying we don’t like CVT just because it’s CVT 😂 Also, this is not the successor of the FX. The QX55 simply pays homage to the OG SUV couple that started it all.
I was all set to purchase the QX55 because I LOVE the design, but the interior and the infotainment ruin it for me. I really wish they would've updated the interior and infotainment system, instead, they look very similar to my 2013 G37 and here we are, 10 years later with no significant updates. I love what they've done to the interior of the QX60 but that vehicle is too big for me. I wanted to stay with Infiniti but I will be moving on to the BMW X4.
The infotainment center and gauge cluster are so “long in the tooth.” And I don’t know why they gave it the troublesome Jatco CVT transmission when most of the 2022 Nissan models now have a 9 speed transmission. The backup camera resolution is terrible.
It is powered by an innovative turbocharged four-cylinder engine that uses variable compression-called VC-Turbo, or VC-T for short. Read this analysis to better understand how it works.
The engine makes 268 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque and pairs with a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) that directs power to either the front or all four wheels. The engine seamlessly swaps between high compression during steady cruising and low compression during hard acceleration. While it never exhilarates when the pedal hits the metal, only those seeking a seriously quick crossover will be disappointed.
Unfortunately, the engine is loud under heavy throttle, and the CVT makes this worse, especially around town.
I was really liking the new Infiniti QX55 until @16:06 when I found out it has a CVT transmission. For close to $60,000 they couldn’t put a real 8 or 9 speed transmission? Really? My wife leased a JX35 when it first came out in 2013 and because of the CVT transmission, she could not wait for the lease to be over so she hand back the keys and walk away. She now drives a 2021 GLS450 with a real transmission and loves her GLS. I would take an X4 or GLC coupe over the QX55 anytime.
I’m saddened by that also, but I know the upcoming QX60 has the all-new 9 speed auto. I’d hope that it’d transfer to other models in due time!

I would take a Lexus over either one of them. I have had 3 Infiniti vehicles previously.
..this will be the rare occasion where I’ll choose a BMW over a reliable auto ! Infiniti is just a pointless brand at this point. Close Infiniti’s doors, reallocate those funds toward Nissan & pull a “Mazda” move & take things upmarket !

One publication praising it doesn’t make up for the dozens that flame it. A CVT should never make it into a “premium segment.” Big L by Infiniti.
