As always the best most uniform ammo testing around! With the same gel and clothing barriers plus retesting ammo to give some a second chance, these tests help each person decide which ammo suits their particular needs. If companies are intelligent enough to watch and read, and care about their customers, these videos can also help them to improve. If they choose not to improve after seeing their shortcomings, then these will definitely help people know where to spend their money and what companies to cut loose. No one needs to carry ammo for EDC self defense that might be likely to fail or underperform. Only buy what’s expected to work and passed 3rd party tests repeatedly ✅

I am gonna have to get me some of that ammo! I have a couple 3 inch .357s and a 4 inch revolver that I have been considering carrying. Thanks for showing it.
.357 magnum has been the benchmark against which all other defensive rounds have been measured for a long time, and this is showing us why. Not only was the terminal performance of the bullets excellent, but the exterior ballistics were also interesting. The Taurus 605 averaged 1057 feet per second at 50 yards for an average Ke50 of 381. That's in the neighborhood of what a lot of spicy standard pressure and lower end +P 9mm loads do at the muzzle, and the .357 magnum is pulling that off at 50 yards out of a 2" barrel. The GP-100, on the other hand, really showed what the .357 magnum is. It averaged 1196 feet per second at 50 yards. That gives us an average Ke50 of 489 energy foot pounds. It also gave us a low Ke50 of 476 energy foot pounds and a high of 504. Given that the performance threshold for "real 10mm ammo" is 444 energy foot pounds at 50 yards, this stuff is doing 10mm things better than most alleged 10mm ammo. Thanks for the testing and data, Tools.
I have a Ruger GP100 6" stainless & I'd probably get 1,500 fps with this load. I'll definitely be on the lookout for it & put some through my chrono to see what velocities I get.
Kinda hard to find anything wrong with those results. Both look to deliver textbook expansion, penetration and energy on target. Great review! I'll have to order up a few boxes and see for myself!
Great performance! Gel isn't as dense as flesh and there are bones in mammals so I'm not concerned about the 22''+ of penetration. I also see this as a good deer hunting load out of a 4-6'' barrel
Thanks as always for the great work. Federal .357 magnum loadings have been monsters for, well, ever. The .357 might be 90 years old, but nobody wants to stand in front of one, that's fersure! Thanks again!
Thanks for testing these. I love the HST loads on 40 S&W and 45 acp. Been wandering how these 154 grainers would do. I'll be using a Rossi .357 Mag with a 6 inch barrel, so they should do even better. Love your videos. Keep up the good work.
I like HST in 9 and 45 for personal defense against human threats. From dozens of gel test videos I've watched, I have never seen a 9mm HST over-penetrate (more than 18") or under-penetrate (less than 12"). But for personal defense against human threats, the 357 Magnum HST penetrates too deep for my personal comfort and peace of mind. I would take it into the woods, though.
I've been running wad cutters in my snub nose, because I never thought hollow points would get enough speed up to expand out of a short barrel. I'll keep an eye out for these at my local shop.
Saw these in academy the other day not bad performance, but not enough performance to make me switch from the Remington 125 Gr SJHP, thank you for another great ammo test 😊
Good test. That’s some good ammo. I picked up a box for my 686-6 and switched out my American gunner xtp’s. Now I’m rolling with the hst’s one in the speed loader and the gun.
I'd love to see tests of the 10mm hornady custom 155 gr. Xtp, lucky gunners 5 round average from a G20 was 1344 fps which is an average of 621 foot pounds energy. Its been a while since he tested them and would love to see an update so we could see if Hornady has kept it the same since thats what I carry. Fyi the box is marked 1410 fps from muzzle on my box I purchased a month ago. Thanks Tools and keep up the great work.
Buddy , I appreciate your information ! I was just about to check the net fir the VERY thing you happened to be showing! Plus you told me what I needed to know about a snub-nosed revolver ! Thanks , buddy !
I only have two and don't carry it often because I prefer concealed carry, but the Bianchi leather OWB holster is sturdy and beautiful. The thumb strap was a bit snug but a bit of oil and stretching made it work. I bought it ~6 years ago for $65. I also have one of those cheapo nylon shoulder holster rigs from Amazon with two pouches for speed loaders. Great for vibes, but for actual carry I don't know. I think it was $25, maybe $30.
Seen few test and shoot more my owns, This is a great 357 round and if you see or test it you see it works great in different barrel lenght and velocity. I have Dan Wesson in factory 10” and 6” barrel and I made custom 3,25” barrel and HST always work, I think HST is new Remington sjhp😁
It's not surprising for HST, from what I've seen personally and also your videos. As always, I appreciate all that you do, Sir. Keep the videos coming 👍.
That's a good round all right. I would probably carry it in my 66-8 with 2.75" barrel. I think the recoil would be a bit much for me in the M&P340 that I do carry. 110s are really the bullet for the lightweight. On a side note, I've been looking for 110gr SJHP .357" bullets for hand loading. I can't find them. XTPs are easy. But they don't open up like an SJHP does.
Can we all just agree to use the hst regardless of caliber? I know you didn’t like the 10mm hst but a 200 at 1100fps will certainly work well for defense use. This is probably the only reliable snubbie load made. I’m going to hoard this like all my other calibers. My little scandium smith loves .357 mag loads on the heavy side so this is perfect!
And, THAT, ladies and gents, is why everything I carry is loaded with HSTs. They just simply perform...every time.👍 I currently have my 6" GP100 loaded with Speer Gold Dots, but I'm thinking I'll be replacing them with HSTs in the near future since they're available. Not that there's anything wrong with the .357 Gold Dots, I just like to at least try to be consistent. 😉😁
Tools nice test, but at $2 per round, I’ll stick with .357 sig. It has similar velocities and results in gel. In addition, higher capacity in a semi-auto, and cheaper per round. You have to give it a try.
Thanks for another great video T&T Just ordered some of this ammo for my lever gun Deer season starts nov. 15 and im extremely excited to see the performance of this ammo out of a 20" barrel on game 💥🦌💥

Great performance! Gel isn't as dense as flesh and there are bones in mammals so I'm not concerned about the 22''+ of penetration. I also see this as a good deer hunting load out of a 4-6'' barrel
Exactly. 😎👊
Good performance. Thanks for the test.
Thank you sir. Appreciate ya!😎👊
Thanks as always for the great work. Federal .357 magnum loadings have been monsters for, well, ever. The .357 might be 90 years old, but nobody wants to stand in front of one, that's fersure! Thanks again!
😎👊
Thanks for testing these. I love the HST loads on 40 S&W and 45 acp. Been wandering how these 154 grainers would do. I'll be using a Rossi .357 Mag with a 6 inch barrel, so they should do even better. Love your videos. Keep up the good work.
Thank you sir.😎👊
Can’t go wrong with any HST just tuff finding it sometimes
True times two.😎👊
I like HST in 9 and 45 for personal defense against human threats.
😎👊
*To be specific, it was about 2 dozen gel tests of 9mm HST and these were all exclusively of the 124 grain.
I have this in my Rossi 357 with a 4in barrel.
I've been running wad cutters in my snub nose, because I never thought hollow points would get enough speed up to expand out of a short barrel. I'll keep an eye out for these at my local shop.
Impressive stuff from a 154 grain out of the 2 inch.😎👍
Be nice to see what the volacity would be out of a rifle. 16 an d 20 inch barrel lengths.
I need to get some of this for my 3” barrel S&W model 65.
After seeing your test I’m convinced.
Thanks for another high quality video.
Thank you sir. Glad I got a few boxes of it.😎👍
It's going to be flying out of a 6.5". Thanks for all the great videos!
That's impressive performance! I'm not a big .357 fan but this was awesome.
Yes indeed. Great stuff.😎👊
.357 is no joke. I used to think it was the same as 9mm until I watched the ballistic tests.
Great!🎉 This is why HST is one of my favorite rounds.
😎👊
It's hard to find, but a gem when found
Saw these in academy the other day not bad performance, but not enough performance to make me switch from the Remington 125 Gr SJHP, thank you for another great ammo test 😊
I've been waiting for this video, I had been looking for videos on this for a while but no one had one up yet. This is exciting.
Great stuff.😎👊
Impressive how close the performance is from these two barrel lengths with hst"s
This WILL be my carry round in all barrel lengths when I get my hands on some. Excellent work and thank you!
Thank you sir.😎👊
Good test. That’s some good ammo. I picked up a box for my 686-6 and switched out my American gunner xtp’s. Now I’m rolling with the hst’s one in the speed loader and the gun.
Deadly!😎👊
Come on Tools.....you gotta test this ammo out of a long barrel lever gun.....would love to see that velocity 😁😁
You know it.🤠👊
I'd love to see tests of the 10mm hornady custom 155 gr.
Appreciate ya checkin it out!😎👊
Great test - thanks! Looks like this one is a definite winner for short-barrel carry guns (and any other gun you want to run it through).
Thanks for testing the ammo i carry, in a gun i carry. (605) Your the man Tools!
I was happy to see how good it did with the 605. My daily pocket rocket is a 605 and looks like I just found new ammo👍👍
I've always liked the HST. A very consistent performer.
Mhmm 😎👍
Seeing those expanded bullets show why HST are my choice for carry rounds!
One of the best in most calibers.😎👍
Federal HST and Winchester PDX1 are my favorite lines of personal defense rounds. Can't find a box of 357 Magnum from PDX1 though.
Tools, what's a good holster for the gp100 357? I picked one up today and studying up on your 357 ammo vids.
Been a .357 fanboy for 50 yrs, good to know this do's what its supposed to, but it is HST,so no doubt in my mind. Thx for the vid TT
😎👊
Can we all just agree to use the hst regardless of caliber? I know you didn’t like the 10mm hst but a 200 at 1100fps will certainly work well for defense use. This is probably the only reliable snubbie load made. I’m going to hoard this like all my other calibers. My little scandium smith loves .357 mag loads on the heavy side so this is perfect!
I knew this was going to be interesting, .357 Mag always is.👍 Not that I doubted the HST at all, it is my go to for any caliber.
Pretty much a guarantee with HST.😎👊
Nice! Those would be good deer rounds for the 357... Definitely good self defense rounds.
Thank you.
Love to see the jelly test and the numbers from a levergun. Awesome video. Thank you
And, THAT, ladies and gents, is why everything I carry is loaded with HSTs. 😉😁
Cool man, I got a few boxes of these in the mail the other day. Love the HST in pretty much every caliber.
Hard to beat em.😎👍
Tools nice test, but at $2 per round, I’ll stick with .357 sig. It has similar velocities and results in gel. In addition, higher capacity in a semi-auto, and cheaper per round. You have to give it a try.
It would be interesting to see how these would do in the gel out of a 16" lever gun.
🤠👍
Federal hst is my go to for readily available defensive ammo. I have to order buffalo boar and underwood where I live. Federal makes good stuff.
Agreed.😎👍
Thanks for another great video T&T
Just ordered some of this ammo for my lever gun
Deer season starts nov. 15 and im extremely excited to see the performance of this ammo out of a 20" barrel on game 💥🦌💥
