It takes lots of battery to run a AC unit, depending on what you want 400 AH for a camper is ok but it still has its limitations, but remember the 2:1 rule, for every 1 AH you should have 2 watts of solar so with 400 AH you want at least 800 watts of solar ( I go 3:1 because the sun is almost never around NE Ohio🤣) I love the freedom of having electric wherever I am.
We are at 2:1 not including the portable panels. The ac eats a ton of battery for sure.
I love that you guys are playing various scenarios with your solar! ❤
Gotta run it through the mill!
You did waaaaaay better than we did on our first night at a Harvest Host. We lost power around midnight, no power and no water pump, which means no lights and no water. We set our starlink to turn off and apparently it didn't, so the batteries drained super fast. We also had a fan on, not realizing how much power it was drawing. We were in SC so it was a very hot night. According to your video, that combo was a destined for disaster. We shall try again next week!
Oh no! Better luck next time! Safe travels guys!
Coffee is always priority 😂 Thanks for the great info!!! We need to get some solar in our life!!
I recommend it! So many more options when you have it!
That is right where we would have parked our trailer too at the distillery. 😀 Oh no! Did things fall out of cupboards? Where did the things on the floor come from? Great Harvest Host and glad the solar system is working out. I believe we have been to 13 states too! 🥰- Michelle
lol. Not everything that’s on the floor fell out. We put some things down for travel days. We are not at 13 states anymore. Stay tuned to see where we are over the next few weeks. It’s been a busy summer so far with lots more to come.
Great stuff guys, very informative on what you can and can't do with your setup!
Thanks! We are still learning!
You need 2-360 cubes by Expion, lithium batteries and upgrade solar panels up top to 2-380w panels or more. It will set you back about $8k, but it will pay for itself over 10 yrs. boondocking and not paying for a campground.
We are going to start upgrading as soon as we decide if we are trading up to a different rig.
At 12:14 “it is not easy living with this woman” LMAO! I’ve been married 35 years, you just have to embrace the suck! LOL! I love my wife, the older she gets the more rules I have to follow, I think she is Gibbs on NCIS.
I feel you Todd. But I wouldn’t trade her for anything. I just love giving her a hard time.
Make sure you turn off the TV preamp too. It draws DC power (a moderate amount). Also, you can check the idle current of the inverter by disabling it and checking current draw. After that reenable it and see how much change with no AC devices running. The inverter costs just to have it on.
Great idea. I’ll have to try that and see what the inverter itself is drawing.
Good job. Looking to do the same thing.
It’s great! Thanks for the comment! So glad to see you are back on the road! Safe travels!
Never did a Harvest Host yet. Nice location. Save some of that liquor for us 🤣
You have to got to get your membership! We have a discount code you can use but they run deals all the time! We still have the moonshine we can share with you! Safe travels! - Mike and Shelley
Any heat or a/c has a coil. That pulls a lot of juice!
Yep.
Very interesting. I bet what you really need is more battery. I have no experience at all. I am interested in seeing how it works. Good luck. Did the refrigerator stay cold on electric with just 35 % and did you get more charge on drive.
The fridge did fine. You are right. We do need more battery to stay off grid for longer.
Nah.. I've seen worse RV's and they weren't even traveling.. Y'all are a mess 🤣🤣🥃 🥗.. Just wondering if you guys have tested a laptop with your Solar system ❓2 👍🏾.. Great information and video ❤️🙂
Hey Ms Janice! We actually haven’t tested the laptop but good idea. We will on our next boondocking trip to New Hampshire! Thanks for the idea! Stay safe! - Mike and Shelley

Your air fryer is not going to pull 119 amps there is a decimal point before the 9. Your actually pulling 11.9 amps. Same with your AC.
Guess I need better glasses! 🤓
