- After 2 years of living full time on the road, we made a BIG decision to purchase our first RV lot. In this video, we're sharing a full tour of our new property. This will be our 'home base' for the summer. We weren't planning to purchase a lot, but after staying here, we fell in love with the property and the amenities. RV life has pros and cons like anything else and for us this was the right step to take so that we can continue living in our motorhome full time. For the sewer hose/electrical cord issue, two solutions: (1) extend the sewer line under the pavers to the other side of the RV or slightly under the RV. Same with an empty oversized electrical conduit. (2) Install a grated (drive over) trench drain across the paver area. Your sewer hose and electrical cord lay in the trench. The sewer cap would need to be lowered.
I like option 1 because it's much more discreet and material cost is significantly less. Since you're a paver expert, this might be a DIY job for you.
If your existing sewer line is very shallow, neither option will work.
I believe what you have is a pavilion. Pergolas have slated roofs whereas pavilions and gazebos have solid roofs. A gazebo typically has a floor attached to it and pavilion’s are free standing. Your site is beautiful and I’m really enjoying your channel!

Your space there is amazing! This is the first time I've run across your videos. I live in the middle of Western Michigan and it is so fun to see someone from my home state and the great area you have there!! Travel on and enjoy the beautiful lot you've purchased!!
Beautiful spot for sure. What will you guys do in the winter? Where will you stay? Love this spot for the other seasons of the year.
We'll plan to head south for the winter. We like to travel in southern Cali / Arizona and the gulf coast when it's cold up north 😍 Nice thing about an RV lot this this is that it's low maintenance in the off season. We'll winterize it and button up before we leave, but not much to worry about while we're gone.
Was there a reason you chose northern Michigan?

I grew up in Grand Rapids, but my family is from McBain and Cadillac area. I moved to Kentucky and have been here over 35 years.
This may sound odd, but I miss the large Michigan rocks. I've had one at each Ky house where we lived, except this last house. Don't have the vehicle to get one home.

That lot looks majestic. Congrats on the purchase. You might want to buy a second RV lot in AZ or south more for the Jan,Feb,March months unless you like the winter months. Or you use that time to travel around.

Love this set-up. What’s the point of buying an RV to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life, only to end up crammed into a tiny RV slot. My only concern would be that amazing outdoor kitchen. How to you secure it against intruders. It looks like anybody can just come up off the road and bake themselves a pizza. Maybe you turn off the gas? There’s some hidden locking system?

Thanks! Yep 3 kitchens is a bit excessive 😂 Plus it only had a small microwave and tiny refrigerator, didn't serve much of a purpose. We have the pickleball rackets, but we do need a golf cart or side by side!

I applaud both of you for the tasteful updates of the bungalow and outside features. If you haven't already been to Bay Harbor, you need to check out the newest restaurant, Brandy's Harbortown. It's adjacent to the marina and offers a casual outdoor setting. A few words of caution though, if you sit there too long, you just might get the urge to buy a boat!
😂 we just went there for the boat show last weekend and it was dangerously tempting to buy a boat. Luckily out of our price range for now lol

Good question! We're still planning to travel in our RV for the next few years at least. Then MAYBE we'll consider boat life and explore by boat, or we may fly and travel to places internationally again.

Where do you put all the outdoor furniture in the winter? Also how many months of the year do you expect to be able to spend there since it's upper Michigan before you need to leave due to weather?

Congratulations, you are living the dream most of us want to be in, I am happy for you all and I know Axle is enjoying this dream as well. My question is when you decided to purchase an RV lot how long did it take you to find the this lot and how does it compare to other sites, for having the same outdoor amenities.
Thank you! Axle is living his best life 😍 We weren't honestly looking to purchase a lot when we bought this one. We rented the spot and fell in love with it then decided to make an offer. But, we have been staying at different RV resorts across the country for the past 2 years and have stayed at most of the best or 'most luxurious' ones. For us, this place is very unique for a few reasons: 1) Space of lots and the privacy 2) Things to do in the area 3) Amenities of the lot like the outdoor kitchen. Most other RV resorts have spaces that are closer together and little privacy. There are some other places that have similar amenities like a casita or outdoor kitchen, but nothing as nice as the one we purchased. This was the first one we've been to where it doesn't feel like you're in an RV park. If you're looking to do some initial research, highly recommend joining some Facebook groups on private RV lots for sale. That'll give you a good idea of what's out there. Then also look at the websites for different RV resorts with lots for sale and check out their listings. Hope that helps!

Wow, that is absolutely gorgeous - your own slice of heaven. You should be very proud to have an RV lot that nice, with all the amenities. Too bad you can't use it in the harsh Michigan winters. We wouldn't know what that's like, being born and living in Louisiana, like you. We're FTers who are still domiciled in Louisiana but like to follow the weather, avoiding snow and ice at all costs. Ya'll must be doing very well for yourselves. I don't think we could even afford the property taxes, insurance, interest and maintenance fees on a sweet place like you've got there.
We lost our home in Louisiana when they raised our property taxes 1,000% shortly after Katrina. The voters in St. Tammany Parish voted down the millage increase as everyone was still recovering from the storm, so they sent out appraisers and assessed everyone's property for far more than it was worth, taxing us out of the home my dad built with his own hands. What can you do? You can't fight city hall. Well, I guess you can, but then you end up with free housing behind bars. I hope the property taxes in Michigan are more reasonable than ours were. Anyway, it turned out to be fortuitous as we are enjoying our life on the road immensely. Going FT was the best decision we ever made. Plus, we're living this lifestyle for 1/3rd of what it used to cost us to live in our S&B.
I like your American Dream coach too. Some good friends of ours have one who we spent last winter with, in Yuma, AZ. We have a National Tropical that we travel the country in since we retired 5 1/2 yrs. ago. We finished our big solar system install last winter in Yuma, so are electrically independent now. It's a liberating feeling, as we love to boondock, so now we can glamp in style. In fact, we boondocked for 10 months last year. We're visiting family in NC now, where boondocking places are scarce, so we're dry camping at a nice RV park, in a spacious site here for only $100/mo., saving $500/mo. off their FHU rates. We have no need for a power pedestal anymore as we now run everything in our coach, including both A/Cs, entirely off the sun. Our mini-split heat pump even provides heat in the winter, and we can run it 24/7 if we need to, sparing our propane. We can't wait till your next video to learn what it takes to own a beautiful RV resort property (it's too nice to call it a mere lot) like you have. We hope to see you down the road one day.
