I worked as the Spud Kings equipment manager for a day, and here’s what I learned

IDAHO FALLS - The EastIdahoNews.com crew will be highlighting different jobs in our area throughout 2024, and today we’re workin’ it with the Idaho Falls Spud Kings.
Since the launch of the Mountain America Center in Nov. 2022, the junior hockey team has become one of the venue’s most popular acts. MAC Marketing Director Kelsey Salsbery says tickets for every game are sold out.
She gave me a behind-the-scenes tour of the venue for the one-year anniversary and introduced me to Colin Fairfield, the team’s equipment manager.
Colin showed me how to sharpen blades on skates, sew name plates on jerseys and organize the locker room. I enjoyed interacting with the team’s newest player and learned just how pivotal the equipment manager is in the team’s success.

Interesting 🤔! My sons and grandson play hockey. I’ve never seen anything beyond the games. Sharpening the blades is something I always wondered about. There is a lot happening behind the scenes. Thank you 😊
I really like this series, videos like this could be shown to children during lunch or a time where it was optional to watch them .That way if a child was interested in certain jobs , to understand how others work or to see if they would be interested is a job / career in the jobs covered . I have done many things in my life & am often surprised how lacking people are in general knowledge . I had a visiting college freshman look over my shoulder on a visit and exclaim ,oh wow ,you can freeze meat ? I looked at her mother with surprise! Yes ,her working mom said, I don’t cook, so our refrigerator is only used for condiments,drinks & the like. So these small snap shots of “other peoples lives “, are really important to kids who grow up like that .Just think this young woman is going to be teaching someone’s children in a few years & is already in charge of them at summercamp. 😮

GREAT STORY TO HEAR HERE IN NC WHERE WE HAVE NO ICE HOCKEY!! BUT I DID HAVE THE HONOR OF A MOTHER WHO HAD A BACHELORS DEGREE IN HOME ECONOMICS, & SHE TAUGHT MY SISTER & I & BOTH MY BROTHERS HOW TO USE A SEWING MACHINE, SO ALL OF US INCLUDING MY DAD KNEW HOW TO SEW. MOM & DAD(82CD AIRBORNE PARATROOPER/KOREAN WAR) WERE TREASURES I AM GLAD GOD GAVE ME. THANKS FOR THE INFO & KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK & SEWING JOBS!!
