Jim Carlisle ( House of Champions. ) Murrysville PA I enjoyed watching you teach, I have been teaching Kenpo for 47 years, you set a fine example of a Master of this art. I exstend my hand in friendship as we continue to develope the art of self-defense.
Max never ceases to amaze me! We successfully tested for 2nd degree together under Bob White, John Sepulveda and Sigung LaBounty a few years back and I've watched his 3rd degree test on youtube. He is destined to be the very best in Europe, if not the world. I am proud to have known him and call him my Kenpo brother.
Yes. I mostly study at CSW in Fullerton under Erik Paulson these days. He is one of the best if not best MMA instructor in the US. UFC fighters train there every night. Sensei Paulson would never compare MMA to a real life situation. He calls it a sport and so do I. FYI I haven't studied Kenpo for many years but it will always be my base system. I just got interested in other arts.
Excellent example of what Kenpo should look like, theres so much crap out there with a Kenpo name to it. This is a refreshing glimpse of great movement and execution of techniques.
I learned a great saying by a great martial artist: "Flow First, Power Later". It's all down to the flow of the technique. If you can't apply the movement to the form, you can't legitimately apply power.
I will. Paul Vunak has some nice videos that show transitions from one style to another. Pretty cool stuff. I'll send you a message when they are up. Take care.
I'm very aware of what Kenpo is. I'm a 3rd degree in (Kosho-Ryu) and 2nd degree (Shaolin Kempo) and also a 1st degree in Aikido, associate instructor in JKD. I currently study Wing Chun under Gary Lam and train at various schools. I've been studying martial arts for 27 years and teaching them for 15 years in Los Angeles.
No worries. I'm in several Jeet Kune Do videos mostly at the IMB Academy from a few years ago a few at the CSW training center as well. I consider myself a JKD man and my ultimate goal is to be a full certified instructor under Richard Bustillo or Dan Inosanto. I'm going to be opening a small school in Anaheim in 2013 (just for fun and a little extra money), I'll send you a message when I do. One of my private students is a cinema/film major and has offered to make some videos.
Straight t the point no messing instant reactions respond on more than one level destroy the intent before it has time to gather momentum its easy to see why Lee utilised aspects of Kenpo into JKD
ridiculous, Bruce lee didn't take anything from American Kenpo. that's some fantasy kenpo guys tell each other to feel validated but well, american kenpo is very useful., the way it's designed is that once your opponent sees you do all the silly footwork, strange hand gestures, and childlike mouth sounds, they will immediately assume you are a mentally challenged manchild and decide not to hurt you.
Liquidcadmus have you ever heard of cross training??? Bruce Lee did introduce trapping to Ed Parker. You want further proof, Chuck Sullivan even admitted to this. One of Ed Parker senior students!!!!!

this looks more like chinese martial arts rather than what i thought it was going to be, which was a combo of chinese kungfu and karate, still pretty cool
Good vid man show more kenpo is alot like kung fu you can see moves from wing chun, chi na and it combines moves from different styles of karate, kenpo karate is good but shaolin kenpo karate is better it has all of the same moves and more and more grappling.
I'm a 3rd degree (Dan) in two forms of Kenpo/Kempo. Clearly this Sensei is pretty well trained. However, some movements and techniques seemed very choppy or timed. Initial sure if that's for demonstration but I think Kenpo should flow. Quickly, not many stop hits with a break, etc. my opinion that's all
Kenpo is alot like kung fu really it is like different kung fu styles and karate styles combined for example it uses moves from wing chun, chi na and different styles of karate, kenpo karate is good but shaolin kenpo karate is even better it has the same moves and more and more grappling.

Huantalahnmi I disagree, I think there is a time and place for each, If people get the idea Kenpo is a slapping art, it could not be from this training.
I'm also a Kenpo practitioner myself and I'm concern that some people that study kenpo tend to do their techniques like what is shown at 1:42 (full speed but no depth in the hits). When you do this in a relaxed environment people try to stay away from these hits but in a real fight they serve no purpose. This is the kind of things that make people believe that kenpo is a "slap martial art". Anyway most of the techniques on the video look fine.
I have watched alot on Paul Vunak and Dan Inosanto and stuff on some of Bruce Lee's other students you should watch Master Wong and a guy named Emil they live in and teach in the U.K.master Wong is real good at tai chi, wing chun and jeet kune do and Emil knows several styles and is real good at wing chun and jeet kune do both of them are real good and verry fast just type in master Wong to find him and type in jeet kune do and you will find Emil he has alot of clips on youtube.
If you would put clips on here of jeet kune do and put the moves of all the martial arts you have learned in the jeet kune do that would be bad ass for example you can use any moves from any martial arts in jeet kune do but you hardly ever see anybody using aikido moves in jeet kune do and blending aikido with the moves from wing chun, chi na or any other arts jeet kune do takes moves from hoppefully you understand what im trying to say.
WTF? I never said I was the baddest man on Earth. I never even asked you a question. I asked the guy who made the video a question and you started telling me the history of Kenpo. Just letting you know my background that's all.
Merci, Leon!
