    the lead singer Sebastian Bach wrote this song about his friend Steven Adler who was the original drummer for guns and roses who got hooked on heroin. My brother is a recovering addict, I know it's a daily struggle for him, he's been clean now since 2016 and we actually have a relationship for the first time since we were teens, we were estranged more than 20 years because of his addictions. Thank you for your reaction.

      im sure this song hits you as hard as me then sadly my brothers addictions still control him its been a lil more than 20 years

      @@GrandpaOCE i'm sorry to hear that. it's so hard on the families of an addict. you love them and you hate what they're doing to themselves and others around them. You want to be there for that person but you have to be strong for yourself. You have a prayer from me for you, your brother and your families

      I can't fucking believe that I am just now today learning that one of my favorite songs ever is talking about Steven. The drummer for the greatest band ever.
      And GNR was my favorite band before Axl even finished his scream to open Welcome to the Jungle the first time I listened to the cassette my now dead best friend's (overdose) uncle bought because the "cover looked cool" months before MTV ever played the video.
      Damn. How the hell

    • @FRANKCOPE
      @FRANKCOPE 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thank God he's clean that is damn near a miracle.

    • @LN-Lifer
      @LN-Lifer 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@FRANKCOPE
      Lol. Do actually believe ADLER is clean???
      I'll remind you that Slash and Duff talked about being clean when GNR split up
      Then during Velvet revolver talked about how high they were before cleaning up for VR
      And then after VR broke up they talked about all the drugs they did. In VR and now claim to be clean again.
      Nobody ever questions the inconsistencies!
      Now if 2 of the highest functioning members can't get clean so you really believe the biggest junkie of all has?
      And don't tell me about health probs/strokes whatever.
      Sure Steven has had health issues but he is clearly STILL USING

    I may not need to point this out for you two, but one small detail people miss about this song is that the line "the horse stampedes and rages in the name of desperation" and they wonder what the point of having a horse in the video is, "Horse" is slang for heroine. That lines refers to when you are at your lowest is when the addiction calls to you the loudest. It is a brilliant lyric that completely illustrates the intensity that addiction can reach. They may think they need just a little to function on a daily basis, but when you are at your lowest, is when you need it the most and every time you give in, it takes you to a new low. Creating this never-ending cycle of falling deeper and deeper into addiction. The only way out is to not use and find a healthier addiction in life.

    🙌🙌My all time favorite Skid Row songs sang by the force of nature that is Sebastian Bach! It was written about the Guns & Roses drummer Steven Adler, just watching him kill himself with heroine! Sorry for you loss. I just saw Sebastian Bach from Skid Row sing 🎵 this song live November 13th in Cleveland, Ohio just put up the whole concert! I so appreciate what you guys had to about your own personal experiences with people you love or know and I hope for more people to get clean and get sobriety so they can live long happy lives with so they love! If you get to the issue at the core of your addiction and work thru it that is one of the most important things you can do!

    It's a powerful song. And it affects so many still. I lost my grandpa, grandma, father, and my favorite aunt to addiction before this song even came out (I was born in '72). Now, both of my brothers are addicted to hard drugs. I have my mom, my sisters, plus my baby girl, and they're the reasons I'm here today. Prayers for your mama, Mel. Losing a father at age 11 is extremely tough. Glad you're both still on the right path.

    Thank you for covering this. I loved Skid Row since I was a very young kid (I was born a little metalhead). But it was YOUR words that have really hit home with me. I’ve been doing pills for far too many years. I actually just bought a stash today. After listening to what you guys went through, something just clicked in me (I’m sitting with a big vacuum-packed bag of gear beside me right now). I now want to get off all this stuff. It started with strong opioids for genuinely severe pain but now I buy even stronger stuff to take on top of the stuff I’m already prescribed. I dunno, I have to figure out the best way to detox or something. God bless you guys & please keep reviewing old rock like Skid Row 🇬🇧🇺🇸🇬🇧🇺🇸

    This was during of " glamor rock" where most bands were wearing make-up. Almost pop-rock. Most bands were playing pop-rock. Skid Row was talking about the gutter side of life. Probably why i, as a white man who grew up on the outskirts of Chicago listening to hip-hop but can really appreciate the music they did. Especially with Sebastian Bachs pipes. He had so much pain in his voice. Just so damn sad. I seen it in the black studs face. I knew the song was hitting him personally

    I'm very sorry to hear that you lost your father to Heroin when you were 11, I can't even imagine how difficult that must have been for you and your family. Heroin was a big problem at my high school, and I ended up losing 4 friends to it, and still have a few friends that struggle with the addiction to this day after about 20+ years. There are many destructive addictions, but Heroin is amongst the worst.
    One of my favorite bands, Alice in Chains, deal with the topic of drug addiction a lot in their songs, as the lead singer Layne Staley and other band members dealt with addiction for a long time. Sadly both Layne and their first bassist Mike Star both passed away from drug overdoses. I always found their music provided a unique perspective in regards to drug addiction, because a lot of it was written from the perspective of the addict, and documented the mind of the addict... I would recommend reacting to their song "Junkhead", as it's a brutally honest take on what it's like to be an addict.

    So sorry to here about your loss. :(
    I took my Niece and her 1 year old baby girl in when she got out of rehab. She had been addicted to every drug since she was twelve.
    Erica was clean for the first time in her life, maintained a steady job and we got custody of her child. I was so proud of her. When my niece moved out she got with the same old looser type of guy. There relationship was tumultuous and abusive. She became depressed. Erica was found in the bathtub next to a floating needle on her daughter's second birthday. The whole family was going to celebrate in the park that day. One of the saddest days of my life.
    Keep up the great reactions and thank you for sharing your story!

It would be nice if you guys would try listening to black rock artists like those and bands like Living Colour, King's X, 24/7 Spyz and Sevendust.
