    I love how by breaking all the rules techno you magically ended up with a deep house track! This is so cool ❤

    Oscar, you need to release this track asap. My god it is good. Did not expect such a banger at all.
    My track suggestion for this week is “Patrik Berg - Living the Lie”. For me this track is a perfect example of how hihat gears can bring and take energy. Oscar made a video called “Simple and effective hihat strategies” some time ago. You should definitely check it out if you want to learn something about this topic.
    For House I feel like “Eli & Fur - Otherside (Dosem Remix)” is a good pick for this week.
    I wish everyone reading this a nice day, until next time.

    In my opinion, in music, rules are meant to be broken... They should be broken and not bent... This is what creates new musical styles and opens up new sonic horizons. Apart from that, I discovered your channel a few days ago... I really like what you do... Thank you for sharing your ideas and tips, you help me a lot... Stay safe, salutations from Switzerland. P.S. The beat at 8:38 is gold and powerful... I've always been a big fan of triple kicks... I love it !

    I enjoy most forms of rave music, but as someone who is addicted to Hardcore and Speedcore I love that you mention going faster as a way to break the syncopation rule. The thing about the rules of techno is that they are for techno. As you showed here you don't need to follow all the rules to make techno, but breaking them could lead you to producing an entirely different genre of music.

    10 years of having fun and trying to understand what most things do in a DAW . now its a whole new experience understanding composition and building on a track but that's the work I guess . My work flow has got alot smoother but still not always happy with my tracks feeling like they need more , a drum fill etc, it's all part of the experience. Thanks for all the knowledge

    What a great turnaround on the topic of rules in music! Thank you!
    Just a few notes:
    Great example of dance music without kick (actually without any drums) would be Lorenzo Senni, you can search his live shows on TH-cam and see the crowd banging their heads to it 😄
    And Venetian Snares is one person, not a band, still a great example of tricky ever changing rhythmic patterns

  • @g3cd
    @g3cd ปีที่แล้ว +15

    Venetian Snares is actually not a band, but a single dude from Canada with a classical music education who started doing crazy Jungle breakbeat shit with another guy called Panacea in the 90s. He's now like the "Aphex Twin of Jungle" doing weird piano / viola / noise breakbeat stuff. If you like this, maybe also look into Apashe from Belgium.

    • @SmurFrelaxing
      @SmurFrelaxing ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Also, VSnares is not really messing with the rhythm, but all his music is consistently in a 7/8 time signature. Its simply not in 4/4 like most electronic music. It takes some getting used to, but once you understand the groove of that time signature its super fun to listen to and also quite "danceable"!

    In the beginning, there were no offsets. On any dance record cut on vinyl. Anywhere.
    Then, sometime around 2000 that started to change. Simple ambient prerolls always existed, but their beat values were highly predictable, like a -4 -8 -16 beat offset for example. Suddenly, I was buying awesome tracks with exotic positive value offsets that started with a kick drum. And DJs really REALLY had to know their music to mix those tracks correctly.
    The one that confounded me most was ‘In the Underground’ on Stereo Recordings, with its +23 (or -9) beat offset. Plus twenty-three… meaning you weren’t dropping it in on the One, you had to drop it on the 23rd, or 55th beat to get it right. And if you weren’t in the zone, hyper-focussed on the count, that one extra beat meant you were late and missed your ideal next mix.
    “Okay, hold it on the second kick drum… dumb ass”
    This replayed in my mind over & over almost every set. The song was too good to pass on, it was the core resolve-type track after my opening peak sequence.
    Today, things are EASY by comparison with Rekordbox & Serato cue points for more visual mixing.
    WARNING: DO NOT RELY ON ANY VISUAL ANYTHING WHEN MIXING MUSIC.
    (Yes, that includes the levels.)
    Thank you for reading.
    And much Much LOVE
    ✊🏼
