I really like Garys videos but I also need other inputs. I feel Gary can be too polite with some cruises and I miss the actual videos of people going about their business, but I can get that from others. Gary if you read this; One thing I would like you to cover more are prices, what everything costs and budgets maybe. It can be hard to google and keep spreadsheets of what-if expenses for each cruise :)
We have sailed Silver Sea three times. The smaller ships get to places the big ones can't get near. We sailed from the Tower Bridge in London to Rekyavik, Iceland and it was an awesome. We sailed from Kangerlusuak, Greenland to St. Johns Newfoundland and enjoyed every minute. Even bouncing around the Arctic Ocean on a rubber zodiak was fun.
+SylviaWong Lewis great to hear! Which Silversea ship were you on for that cruise? Before the Muse I had been on the Whisper , and as much as loved the Whisper the new ship is a big leap forward I think
I went on a couple of forgettable cruises when much younger, then was persuaded to join friends on a Silversea cruise in France and Italy. Since I had little to nothing to compare it to I assumed it was a normal cruise experience. I've since caught the cruise bug and have learned how wrong I was, and I look forward to the next time I'm willing to pony up for a Silversea experience. Absolutely first class without being the slightest bit stuffy - just elegant.
That’s a great video Gary thank you so much. I’m headed on the Silver Muse this January, Auckland to Sydney 14 nights. Tired of the riffraff the Nicklin diming & the crowds aboard standard cruise lines like Princess and Holland America, I’m shifting more towards this type of cruise line experience. Disappointed to hear that they actually have up charge restaurants aboard, but it also includes one shore excursion per port is what I was told by the website, and the silversea agent on the phone. I’m 62 and Retired, so this will be a huge (coupled with business class tickets from Maryland) expense but worth it.
So glad I found your channel. I just finished a trip on NCL and found Alaska thrilling. Now I plan to save so that at retirement I can do a silverseas expedition to either Arctic or Antarctic. I’m soooo excited!
thanks Gary always so informative going to the point. After this short appetiser went immediately to book my 5. cruise on Silversea , first one on the Muse. looking forward as well to the 30 days on Discoverer from Colombo to Saigon.
We love the SilverSea, although we've not been on the Muse yet. I have to agree with one other commenter who questioned the removal of The Restaurant. First of all, it's usually our favorite restaurant at night, and secondly, we've had problems lately getting a reservation at La Terraza unless we book way ahead. Over all, it looks amazing and your video was excellent!
Great to hear you found the video helpful. The removal of the main dining room has been quite controversial and be interesting to see how it all ends up but believe they think they will find the right balance - but the booking and availability in the popular restaurants has been an issue. Like you I really like Silversea!
Loved this video. I am sailing on the new Silver Dawn this September. This was just what I was looking for in terms of info about sailing on Silversea.
Yes I do have my own TH-cam Channel, I have recently put some 20 videos from my recent cruise on the Azamara Quest on there, and you may also enjoy my Guitar Playing Videos!

Hi Gary, Thank you for a great video, I think you are the best out there. Very inspiring and informative as always. Me and my wife have on previous occations cruised with Seabourn, but now in april for the first time, we have booked a cruise with Silver Spirit out of Barselona. Hope it`s going to be a fantastic experience
Hey Gary, your videos are great, very informative. I would like to see maybe a bit more of you opinion and you review, instead of information only. Maybe let us know if the food is the best in the ultra luxury lines, if not which one provides the best food in your opinion?
Very informative video, Ty for that. Been thinking about going on Regent, but been hearing a lot of negative things about them such as their food is hit or Miss, no consistency at all. Now I’m looking at going on a Silversea cruise. Kind of a shame there is no main dining room, as I’ve been hearing it’s hard to get reservations into some of the restaurants. I like how their staterooms are laid out, except the placement of plugs is strange, but it is what it is I guess.
Hi Gary! Great video. I am a big fan of your travels and cruise tips. Question regarding the comment you made that the crew are trained by the renowned "Leading Hotels of the World" organization. Do you know if this is still the case? Also, is La Dame still affiliated with the Relais and Chateau group? Thanks, Ronan :)
Silversea delivers what they promise. I have traveled on Silver Spirit and from Gary's video I can tell the two ships are "twins" similar setup for restaurants, bars and other amenities like spa and gym. I would suggest to potential travelers to consider the destination more than the ship. I traveled from Venice to Piraeus and was a beautiful journey. Thanks Gary, it was informative and confirms what I knew about the two larger ships in Silversea's fleet.
Gary, is the dress code not per restaurant and not formal, informal and casual evenings like on all the other silversea ships? Probably should also have mentioned booking restaurants is advisable. (Ive seen a report from someone unable to get in anywhere and got dressed up and ended eating pizza in the cold night air.)
The cigar lounge sounds great but is there any areas outside for smoking? Most if not all lines no longer allow smoking on balconies or in the suites. Does this line also not allow it?
@KEM MEK You will pay 7 times that $700 for 7 night cruise on Silversea. Check them out. You did well to only pay $700 plus $700 on NCL if it were for a week. Silversea is beautiful, but so expensive.

I JUST RETURNED FROM SAILING FROM MONACO to VENICE - July 9-17 and the FOOD WAS TERRIBLE! This was our first cruise and we spent approximately $18,000 for two people in the Veranda Suite - flight included from SFO, (stayed in Room 903) and we thought the ship was gorgeous! We enjoyed the Butler service! The ship was clean and well appointed. The staff seemed to be on month 7 of their 9 month contract (so if you asked they'd tell you they were missing home), however, I thought the service was pretty good from most of the staff. FOOD NOT GOOD! I was really surprised that the food was so bad! The first dinner we ate at The Grill, the salad was fresh and the steak was the worst I've ever eaten. Then we got grilled prawns and they were mushy and disgusting. I returned them and the waiter told us that all the shrimp were frozen (obviously freezer burnt shrimp), NOT WHAT YOU EXPECT FROM AN ULTRA LUXURY CRUISE! Unfortunately, the food that was prepared and served was honestly terrible! We ate at all the restaurants including Kaiseki (aweful and precooked seafood) and La Dame (was just okay) don't bother with them, they are not worth the extra money for sure! We spoke with other guest on the ship and they too thought the food at the restaurants was terrible. Room service is not great either. The only thing that was good was the lunch buffet...where you pick what you want (and you can create your own salad, etc.) Fortunately, the accommodations were priority to me and we enjoyed visiting the various cities on our cruise. If food is important to you then this is not the ship I'd sail upon. THE POOL: Too many children and the water seemed to have a high concentration of salty water - quite disgusting. We only tried it once and that was enough of a turn off! Next time I'll do better research (there are many reviews showing that the food is terrible on Cruise Critic) and unfortunately I didn't see them or I would not have selected Silversea!
I'm sure the ship is fabulous and provides a first class cruise, but the decor seems very dull, almost princess like. Lots is beige and variations of that.
+pumpkin462 the ship feels luxurious but do see what you mean about it not being very different colour etc wise. I guess they followed what is popular with most people in that regards ?
I wouldn't say 'very' dull. But it may do with 'some' more color ('slight touches here and there' -like in paintings-...NOT red or yellow or blue on the walls, drapes or bedspreads please! . These 'calm/newtral' colors are indeed elegant and trendy though.
The ship looks beautiful except for the hideous artwork. Childlike fridge art that's framed up to spoil the walls. For that reason alone I'm reluctant to book.
I understand why you have close-up face clip of yourself at the beginning of the video, but must you put it in thru out the entire video? Silversea is ROYAL CARIBBEAN, just like SeaBourne is Carnival and Regent Seven Seas (and Oceania for that matter) is NCL.
