    In 2011, Sudan broke into 2 separate countries. Sudan in the north and South Sudan in the South... They are completely different in every way possible.
    I have spent the last 48 hours in Juba, the capital city of South Sudan, and it has been one of the most interesting and eye opening trips of my entire life.
    Thankfully, was able to get in touch with some awesome locals through social media and they've been showing me around and making sure I'm safe. I say this because South Sudan is not the safest country around Africa -- it's been in a constant state of war since its existence 8 years ago. But things now seem to be much more stable than the past, and the future is bright for this oil rich country in Central/East Africa.
    In this video, join me as I give you a deeper look at the people, culture and life of South Sudan. Have any questions about visiting? Comment below!

Due to the challenges faced by this new country, and even before they'd become a country, surely it makes sense that he's surprised, even impressed, they speak fluent English.

      @ESTA ROSSA You really are clueless , aren't you?? I am not going to say things are pleasant in Sudan , but it was all down to injustice and absence of law. Everyone was oppressed , of course none more than our brothers in the South , but EVERYONE was oppressed , even the Muslim majority state of Darfur that you mentioned. When the war broke out in the 1950's the Sudanese government was a secular one. So you clearly have no idea what you are talking about
      Peace and love to all our brothers in South Sudab

    • @aminahmed2189
      @aminahmed2189 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @ESTA ROSSA First of all , almost all the African nations have names that aren't originally African.If you go to a country that has a Christian majority you will find people with names such as Emmanuel , Victor , Thomas, etc , and obviously that is not something to criticize. It is a culture and they have the right to adopt it or refuse it , the choice should always be with the locals, and the majority of Sudanese accepted Islamic culture. Secondly , You are speaking about things that happened more than a thousand years ago....the same argument can be made about how other religions in the world spread (consider South America and the African slaves) through out history. Sudan , which was historically known as Nubia during the Islamic era was not forced into Islam through war , but through time and inter marriage with the Muslim majority in Egypt and what is now Southern Saudi Arabia , as Islam became a the dominant religion in Sudan in the 16th century , a thousand years after Egypt.
      As I mentioned , everything that happened in South Sudan was a tragedy and a complete mess which was down to the rulers of Sudan being very oppressive and a complete lack of justice , but simply saying the cause was religion is clueless , as the same cruelty happened in the Muslim majority Darfur. All our governments throughout history , whether secular or religious have been unjust oppressive dictatorships.

    • @aminahmed2189
      @aminahmed2189 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @ESTA ROSSA I understand why you would think this way , and the behaviour and action of modern-day Muslims has enhanced this belief among many people , especially when you consider what happened in the South which was an all out atrocity. But Islam does not promote war nor does it force people to leave their religions. Throughout the early Islamic age , Christians and Jews were allowed to practice their religions and build their temples inside Islamic countries , you can read about it if you wish to understand more. And the wars during the beginning of Islam targeted three major empires which were the Persian , the Roman and the Egyptian empire , and the wars had many reasons , with the spread of religion not being among the priorities as non Muslims were allowed to keep their faith after the Muslims won. Another major Christian empire which was around was the Abyssinian empire , and the Muslims never attempted to negotiate them into converting to Islam nor did it attempt an invasion. Also, the areas with the highest Muslim population in the world (Indonesia , Malaysia , Nigeria) did not have any form of warfare from Muslims. Islam is very specific on when to go to war and when to stay in peace , and the only reason such issues are not brought in other religions is because Islam is very specific in pretty much everything , but in this day and age , Muslims are setting a bad example. In Islamic law it is a major sin to abuse or mistreat non - Muslims who are living in your state , but as you mentioned that is not happening.
      I hope you understand that 90% of everything wrong going on in our side of the world is because of corrupt dictators who claim to be Muslim but do not abide by any of the laws on justice set for us by our Prophet.

      @@aminahmed2189 actually the ottoman empire (current day turkey), sultans of Egypt and Adal Sultane (current day Somalia) t actually tried to take Abyssinia to spread Islam but only gained pieces such as Afar and Harari. In which is why those regions of Ethiopia are Muslims to this very day. Also for the fact that the majority of ethiopians during the time period were a mixtures of both Nubian and Jewish heritage/ethnicity and their Christian religion made them a huge target during the Arab slave trade. The Arabs think of Ethiopians more like fetishes than actual people similar to how they think of people near the Indian subcontinent. Watch this video. I am not saying islam is bad because that makes me a hypocrite of being a muslim myself, but inshaallah the arabs will change there ways and end slavery.

    I’m very happy that you’ve posted such a positive video on South Sudan that doesn’t just focus on the negative aspects or sugarcoat the challenges it faces. However, I do love how you’ve highlighted that no matter the issues S. Sudanese face, they are always optimistic and welcoming.
    I’ve always had hope for my country and hoped that I’d visit once I’ve finished college. Now that I’m 22 and just graduated from college and S. Sudan is peaceful, I am motivated to visit the country and book a flight to visit my hometown of Biemnom. S. Sudan is beautiful and flourishing and I only hope to accelerate its progress one day. I know this may sound like I’m daydreaming but I’ve always had a game plan laid out and even centered my studies in college on development so that I can attempt to apply them to this beautiful nation that so many seem to brush off as another failing state. We are 8 years in the making with so much potential and so many young college educated Sudanese folk looking to aid the country and I believe that they’re dreams will come to fruition in the upcoming years.

      Switch USA with China.
      USA doesn't have stakes in Africa's oil biz. China is currently putting hundreds of billions into Africa, to build structures and businesses, and in turn, taking over the power in many places.
      Again, not USA. China. Be honest, and don't keep spreading ignorance.
      If USA is setting up shop anywhere to obtain natural resources, it is in the middle east.
      Under Biden, America is essentially shutting down oil production in USA, which under Trump became the number one producer worldwide, and is in turn giving the green light to pipelines in the middle East.
      Literally shutting down USA from being self sufficient, and setting up shop overseas.
      It's greedy and wrong. We should be setting this up in USA. We shouldn't be in the middle east.
      We should be pulling out of Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, ect.
      Trump started that, and never started a single war... The only president in our lifetimes to not start a new war...
      Word is since Trump initiated ending the US presence in Afghanistan, that Biden doesn't really have a choice, and the troops will be coming home, thankfully (for us, and for Afghanistan)

    I've been to South Sudan back in 2007 when it still was a part of the proper Northern Sudan. With all the oil money then going to Khartoum, infrastructure wasn't really existing with just two paved roads and no proper hotel in Juba. But people were quite optimistic about their future, hoping to utilize all the oil money once it had become independent. However, it didn't work out that way.
    It's quite funny that they still did not remove the shipwreck from the River Nile.

    In response to a commenter about ancient Cush and South Sudanese, I replied as below. I thought I’d post this as a comment for anyone interested. Find citations below.
    KEY POINT: Nile valley civilization was started by the ancestors of South Sudanese Nilotes and Sudanese Nilosaharan speaking people’s...so the OP is absolutely right in his statement that South Sudanese formed the earliest “country” in the world. I will, however, concede to second place for Egyptians because Kushite Kingdoms were second to the Egyptians in power, so maybe not as well known in the ancient middle eastern world, which is where the great powers of time were located, and where the authors of the biblical texts originate...Babylonians, Akkadian, Assyrians, etc... [the Bible is an anthology with several authors who themselves borrowed from other cultures]
    The ancient “Upper Nile” (upstream of Egypt) would have been first organized permanent settlement or “country” as the commentator puts it, though not a country in the traditional sense but a recognizable polity. The ancient Sudanese, the ancestors of the South Sudanese 🇸🇸 and non-Arab groups/Africans in Sudan 🇸🇩, were the first ppl in the world to settle down and establish permanent villages in the central Sahara or modern day south Libya...this was a period called the “wet Sahara” of the Holocene epoch, where the Sahara desert was green, with savanna grasslands, rivers, and lakes. When these began to dry up starting around 4000 BC, the advancing desert rapidly pushed people South, East, and West. These groups likely surround giant fresh water megalakes in the green Sahara and with desertification, They were pushed/scattered in all directions. The Southern group migrated South into Western Africa, they now are in Mali 🇲🇱 , Nigeria 🇳🇬 and Chad 🇹🇩 ; The western Cohort in Senegal 🇸🇳 , Gambia 🇬🇲 , & Ivory Coast 🇨🇮 , and the EASTERN people moved towards the Nile becoming the earliest settlers on the Nile valley. These group was made up of two major ethnicities, Nilosaharan speakers (settled southern parts = upper Nile) and Afroasiatic Speakers (Northern parts or Lower Nile). The people in the Southern Part of the Nile - Nilosaharan speaking group - were the ancestors of modern day South Sudanese 🇸🇸 Some “ ethnically African Sudanese”, and the Nubians 🇸🇩. The Northern part of the Nile valley was inhabited by Afroasiatic people - who became the ancestors of the ancient Egyptians and other northern Sudanese Afroasitic speakers such as the Beja (the Egyptians would later lump them with “Nubians/ Kushites” and called them “Medjay”). The Southern Nilosaharan people ( an Eastern Sudanic speaking people known as the “A-group”) who the Egyptians eventually came to know as “Kushites” were the first to establish civilization in the Nile valley. It then spread northwards, where Egypt advanced it to what we now recognize as ancient Egyptian Civilization.
    NB: this is a simplied version. It’s more complicated than I have presented above. e.g. there were already other African groups already in Eastern Sudan who likely mixed with the western migrants to create the various groups of Kushites and smaller nationalities on the periphery of the Kushite states.

    I really like his videos. They're all mostly straight to the point, not a lot of nonsense talking to inflate his ego or anything. And I'm learning a lot. I have subscribed. You should have a lot more viewers!
