Yeah I've never even been into thrash or much metal in general but this is one of the most impressive guitar performances of all time imo. A pinnacle of using technicality the right way. A true masterpiece. I love MOP but by comparison, it still has some of the repetitiveness that Metallica is notorious for. (Imagine if Raining Blood was written by Metallica... It'd be 3x longer) If Dave wrote Holy Wars like MOP, it's riffs would be made into two songs and the total length would be twice the length of the original song.
I mean it's really not that different from the kind of riffs he came up with on Kill 'Em All. Fast Pentatonic-based riffs with hammer-on/pull-offs (which always makes it easier to play notes faster), with triplets hammered on the open E. Of course, everything is obvious in hindsight. Mustaine sure was an innovator on the instrument.
Good job dude, you actually played the main riffs correctly. Many people miss a few details and it doesn't sound quite right. I had to listen to the isolated tracks myself to understand a lot of it.

That's not how it works. There's a great video on what to do about live "mistakes" I think the channel is called "Guitar Mastery" or something. Mistakes are a mindset. If you do an unintended note, it's easy to correct and hide. It doesn't have to be a "mistake," it can just be an unintended ornamental note, which is a note that is exactly what it sounds like, something there for decoration played on the way to your main chord note or root note. It only becomes a mistake when you acknowledge it and let it interrupt your playing. Anyway, if you know your instrument, it really doesn't matter playing it perfectly to tabs. Improvisation is easy because you know and feel where the right notes will be anyway, you just do it without thinking.
@@UnchainedEruption To add, another factor is understanding the "skeleton" of every riff, understanding what notes in solos/riffs are indispensable and what notes are icing on the cake really help when playing. If you play every essential note on the downbeat you aren't playing the solo/riff "wrong", you played the structure, every other note is only there to make it sound better, of course what am saying doesn't imply you should skip notes, but when people screw up in live settings it's usually not noticed as long as it isn't an indispensable note. This especially works when learning a complicated solo, as long as you figure out what notes are the skeleton, you will understand faster.

Because you don't learn it by itself in a vacuum. It's like asking how does one solve integrals? Well first you learn basic addition/multiplication, then fractions and decimals, then exponents and logs, then trigonometric functions like sin/cos/tan, etc. You gradually learn all the little skills and reach a point of mastery with them over the course of a few years. If you know the underlying principles of all music you can just feel what something is instinctually without having to think.

This is awesome, i was hoping to find some tab for this but the way you laid out the tab and the jam video is amazing, appreciate you ✊
Omg come on! no one who loves himself would compose this riff to sing 1:27
That tone is 100% perfect. Good job
@Mr. Tabs outstanding! For those harmonics at 4:48, what does the .2 mean in ?
Sorry for coming quite late but if it works for you, it means in the middle of those frets, that is, on the line that divides the frets.
Natural harmonics. Hover your finger over the fret and touch the string very very lightly when you pluck
First ever video I watched here, made me learn this song! It was a dream of mine to learn this song, that was around 2 years ago now, thank you Mr. Tabs!
Only a god can sing and play that verse at the same time.
I’m no god lol. But i’ve never thought that riff was hard to sing and play it’s honestly one of the easiest songs for me to sing and play but ik it all depends on the person because i can’t sing and play hangar 18 and i’ve heard that that one is fairly easy, yet i can sing and play this whole song pretty easy 😂
Not taking anything away from dave though he’s surely a god and can sing and play everything with such ease 😂
@@joshsembrano9031 post a video, bruh! That would be nice to see, very few people can do it
@@joshsembrano9031 sounds like you wanna put your money where your mouth is
I'm still learning from your tab and watching this video from time to time. Almost done with Solo 2 so 3 and 4 will follow. I really like the effect on the image which is almost identical to the one in the Megadeth video :-P
Just now I notice the Mike Tyson Kith shirt, pff 😂
For years I thought Dave's solo in this was just a one off shred, if you watch live versions you see he does use similar notes but it never sounds quite like the record. Watching your video, bars 192-194 in particular, I realized there are small breaks in that run, it's not constant 16ths. Pretty cool, I'll try to learn it as you've transcribed it, badass guitar playing man! Super clean too!
Amazing cover ! You rock :-)
experienced guitarist can see, that chord position at 0:25 while you are holding e chord on a whereas its g and f on e string, seems like you are running the backing track
what
Its the same notes just using dave‘s spider chords
I saw this as a beginner learning and was mighty confused looking at his fingers vs the tabs.
Dude your playing is so tight. Incredible. I'm truly impressed.
It's hard to listen to this song without grinning ear-to-ear. And people say metal isn't fun?
Особенно соло Marty Friedman)))). (Russian language)
4th solo might be best solo around E, crazy stuff, love it!
