Jason was the ENERGY and the source of ON PITCH backup vocals. It's actually derogatory to call Jason's singing backup, because he added a whole new dimension to Metallica that hasn't been matched.
Jason Newsted will always be the reason why I fell in love with Metallica, I mean, look at him. What a beast on stage he was. So sad, to see the only support he had in that band was Kirk.
@@DFWTF Jason had another side project called Echobrain. James found out this and basically "recommended" Jason to leave that project, stating that Jason could not be able to be compromised with both projects. Jason saw it as the last time he was disrespected by either James or Lars and quit the band.
For me Jason was the best bassist for Metallica because he brought in something more than just bass, he had an intense, intimidating stage presence and incredible backing vocals. He simply made Metallica way more badass and a song like Creeping Death became his own. It has never sounded as good live as it did with Jason.
I think Metallica was very lucky to have the bassists they needed at the right time. Cliff was highly innovative and knew music theory, which was necessary for the new band. He played a huge role in setting Metallica apart from other bands of their time and making them unique. He probably would have continued to do so, but, you know. Jason, as you said, had that energy and stage presence. Rob has the skill to do Cliff's bass solos well enough - most of the time - and to keep up with the other guys. He's good enough for an established band at this phase.
@@lorigoshert6667 I think you're exactly right. Cliff's knowledge of music theory probably pushed the band to try more complex arrangements, and if you look at AJFA, it's a further development of the sensibilities established on MoP. AJFA has insane time signatures and could even be considered prog-metal, because of how complex it is in places. When Jason joined, he became part of a more musically developed band. I have to say I like Rob, but in some way I feel like he never fit in with Metallica, he has kind of a different vibe. He's still a monster bassist, but Jason fit the mold so well that when I look at him perform, I even forget Cliff was ever a thing, no disrespect to him of course.
Cliff for me was the melody king, best bass player for me period. Jason never really got accepted in the band fully but love his energy and dodgy side shaves he had with his Kirky perm albeit long. Jason had good stage presence and loved a joke making the shows special.

Its cool to see this show since its the 3rd of the tour. It shows the evolution of Jason Newsted's bass solo. Notice the part after My Friend Of Misery started as a slap type solo, and by San Diego and Mexico City, became a pick solo. Cool.
Been a fan since first listening to the Black album when I was 13 and still dream of seeing them live. I just hope they don't retire before I get my chance.

Back when they had ANGER, AGGRESION, POWER, DOMINANCE and JASON!!!!! The good old days. Damn I miss those days.
Jason is an absolute monster!
Jason for me was the best bass player for Metallica.
49:45 this part kicks so much ass!
Wish this song was more of a regular in the set list. Holier Than Thouuuuuu!
Bryan Darby 🤘
Bryan Darby the song they always played instead of Holier when I saw them on this tour was Through the Never, which kicks ass live too!
And you can...HEAR THE BASS in this mix !!
91'...the beginning of my story with Metallica! How fascinating it was !
Best era ever!
Amazing! Jason come back! We miss you.
Jason has been, is and will be the soul of Metallica. You can't hear a Metallica's song without imagine How it would sound live with Jason.
*cliff
Cliff is a legend. Rob is a great bass player. Jason WAS Metallica.
Jason singing seek & destroy is so good!!
And Creeping Death
So awesome that the concert I snuck out of my parents house to see with my best friend our junior year of high school ended up on #MetallicaMondays
this is my favorite Jason era. listen to the sound of that awesome bass on Creeping Death
Jason really had the fucking energy in the live shows back in they day! Fuck I love jason
nejsem človíček, jo umím rusky i psaaaaaaat, přesto Metalika je můj sen, asi nej na světě
WOW!! It's nice when you can actually hear the bass!!
How about asking Jason to record an intro for the next Metallica Monday? Don't think it's gonna be a big deal for you, but for the fans - absolutely.
As long as it is used for a live show where *he* played it would be amazing. I think he is in quite good terms with James and Lars now, if i remeber correctly.
@eniatsuM evaD yes i forgot about that you're right. Well i hope they read comments lol
@@Rico_71 that's true, Lars and Kirk sent him best regards por his bday, so, it will be great if Jason record an intro
@@santiagomattiussi8996 glad to know that what i was hoping for is actually a reality, thx for letting me know. Sadly there will be no more metallica mondays so the intro won't be necessary
That would be a no no from Lars and James.
I’ve always loved Jason’s voice!! Even as a kid watching the binge n purge concerts I had on vhs I loved when his vox part on creeping death came up! 🤘 fukin miss Jason!!
Jason was the best metal backing vocal of all time!!!!!
eye of beholder justice is my favorite 😊 love to all
i'm 40 years old, and i still dig "metallicaaaa"... it just relevant to my ears. Black album was officially my 1st ever heavy metal genre i've listened and these guys were the ones responsible for transforming me into metalheads back in 91', i was 11yo that time. Since that i'm digging into later albums and fell in MF love with the band period...
"Taken from a dusty old VHS tape" music for my eyes!!!!
Its cool to see this show since its the 3rd of the tour. It shows the evolution of Jason Newsted's bass solo. Notice the part after My Friend Of Misery started as a slap type solo, and by San Diego and Mexico City, became a pick solo. Cool.
James look like real Alfa male🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🖤❤🖤❤🖤❤🖤🖤❤💋💋
I think it's not about Jason's evolution, is about that he is a great bass player with pick or fingers, and he decide use a pick, that's all.
Pick is illegal
@@DiegoSnip OMG SLAP LIKE NOW OR I'LL CALL THE POLICE oh wait wrong channel
1:27:31 From this point forward in the intro is why Jason made this song whole.
Jason we miss you more than you'll ever know!! Honor and Respect my brother!!
This is why i miss Jason Newsted. He kick asses. Thanks Metallica for share this show with Jason!
33:55 kirk walked like a rockstar there 🔥
i really really wish i was born like 30 years earlier honestly so i couldve been to a live show in this era of metallica
Same
Me too
Been a fan since first listening to the Black album when I was 13 and still dream of seeing them live. I just hope they don't retire before I get my chance.
Same here
Jason was the reason I started exploring Metallica, though he has not written much of their music, his live performance makes it feel that "Jason is Metallica".....
Agree with you on that, freaking live beast!

Jason ...forever member of metallica!
Almost every comment on this video, as well as other Newsted-era videos, is about how awesome Jason was/is. That says a lot.

Tell Metallica to get in shape for 6 months and play the best theyve played!
if only I could have seen this metallica live just once.
Theres still time, I'd highly recommend it when this pandemic is over.
I did in 96. Fucking amazing show. Birmingham NEC,England.
I feel you
I did back in 93, 99, 08 & 14 but 93 was the best time of all!!! Great memories
Went to see Metallica in dublin October 92...on the black album....
Was born in 1990 and been a metallica lover since day 1! I would give almost anything to go back to experience a concert like this.
I am fortunate that I can see it now though.
hell(o), Hell yeah, all the best to JASON!!!!
Jason newsted was the heart and soul of metallica in these years. It really helped james to have someone to lean on during live performances too. When his voice starts wearing out jason jumps into to do the harsh parts. Irreplaceable member as far as im concerned and stage presence second to NONE
