CTV News 1 launch (October 17, 1997)

The launch of CTV News 1 at 7:00am CDT on October 17, 1997. Simulcasted on Canada AM, the 24-hour headline news service is introduced with CTV News anchor Lloyd Robertson and Canadian Prime Minister Jean Chrétien. Following the top story on newscast #1, the launch of the new wave of speciality channels, we switch over to celebrations of the new channel from Canada AM.

The rotating news desk only lasted a few months before it was dropped due to widespread ridicule from the public.

How long did that last? I recall it not being that long before it went to a regular news channel with news every hour. Always hated that rotating desk.

I didn't get to see this live, as our local cable company was in the process of changing from Cogeco to Shaw and didn't start carrying this channel until about a year later.

The first news story is new specialty channels that launched in 1997 with some problems with carriage with BDUs, how ironic to see that even the Prime Minister somehow watched the first story on CTV News Channel
