A4, or rather the letter series of paper (A3, A5, B4, C4, ...) have an aspect ratio of 1:√2, meaning if you split an A4 in half, you get two A5. The B series are sizes been A, so B4 is halfway between A4 and A3, and then you have C halfway between A and B of the same digit; envelopes are the C size so they can fit A paper. C4 envelop can fit an unfolded A4, but the most common size is C5, which is an A4 folded once.

i can make a prin on A4 fit it into a standard envelope no proplem, send it to a print comapnny that makes a A0 print that is perfectly scaled.
But isn't a 1:sqrt(2) ratio impossible to get correct? Why would you choose an irrational number for the ratio?

if you cut a paper with the ratio 1:sqrt(2) in half ,youll have 2 papers with the ratio 1:sqrt(2).
if you cut a paper with the ratio of 17:22 (~0.772) in half, youll have 2 papers with the ratio 11:17 (~0.647)

May I inform you that a lot in this video are general statements about USA, and not applicable to the rest of the world. This is a mistake I see people do a lot. Like that graph of when _people_ think it's okay to start playing Christmas music. Why is "after Thanksgiving" so high? Because "people" here means "people of USA" and not the rest of the world (I guess everyone else aren't people). Another is the generations; those are based on US population statistics, so when you say you belong to a generation, that's like you're saying you belong to the US population trends, which is weird. Unless you use generations made based on your country's population. There's even more stuff that Europeans take for granted that only applies to USA.

So you know why A4 papersize is much more logical? The ratio of their sides is the golden ratio. That means not only that it looks more natural, it also means that if you cut it in half it is still the same ratio (but it is called A5 then) and if you do the same thing over and over it always stays the same ratio and the paper looks the same. So you can scale it just by cutting it in half.
I’m no human, but reusing an old joke about saying first, as well as saying first, is not morally well.

The A scale of paper is designed using root 2 so A0 is exactly 1m^2 then if you fold it in half lengthwise you get A1 which is 0.5m^2 with exactly the same length:width ratio. Then A2 is half A1, A3 half A2 etc etc...
