I love this! I have seen many techniques, including 27 layers of paint-what a mess! This helps a HUGE amount with getting the lighting to look real. THANK YOU!!!!
Im about to do a painting of my dog for my dads birthday present, watching this video helped a lot! I just subscribed because i liked this video so much. Thank you!
same!! I'm painting my moms dog for her birthday (hopefully done in time). I havent painted since college so this video was a great refresh and made me confident enough to start.
@@StudioWildlifeI've a question, I never see you Varnish your acrylics. have you ever considered a high gloss varnish on the eyes, a medium gloss varnish for the fur, and a flat varnish on the background ? do you think that would work to enhance the realism ? also, I found some ultra fine acrylic paint pens at Wal-Mart recently, they are amazing for art work, kinda like the way you used acrylic water blend in the water color pens.
I struggle with mixing paints to create the colour, knowing what colour i need since artists use colours i wouldnt of dreamed of, creating details, creating fur effects
sometimes I use the little color eyedropper in apps like photoshop or instagram to see what the color actually is. In photoshop it allows you to so at where the color is on the color wheel and thats generally pretty helpful for me.
I don't really have many pet tutorials on my patreon as most of the pet portraits I do are commissions, I do have a plan to do a charcoal video of my dog Charlie for Patreon though so that will be up there next year. The techniques I use for my lion and tiger pieces are exactly the same as the pet portraits though so the skills from all of my videos are transferable :)
While your demonstration looks fairly easy..I know for a fact even if I follow your instructions to the best of my ability, that I would end up with a painting with the skill level of a baby or possibly a first grader..for some reason I can never look at something I create and think it looks good even if some others say it is ok ..all I can see is a childish impression if I did the work..
All I can see is your face , rest the painting is not visible that much... your commentary without you and much focused art work would have helped more

Do you ever glaze to make things lighter? can glaze with zinc white or will it muddy the colors too much?
Love this video Dan, so insightful
Great video Daniel
Love u guys ❤️
Hello. Are you using a soft or bristle angled brush?
So beautiful. Do you need to glaze at all?
❤😊 thank you
What paper did u use for tracing?
😊
What kind of paper was used to transfer the image to the MDF? And can I use it on canvas as well?
I actually just used some baking parchment but any form of tracing paper will do, and yes it works on canvas too 😁
@@StudioWildlife wow that's brilliant!! And awesome tutorials btw, thank you for sharing your knowledge!

What would I need to do the tracing part of this video?
I just started with the background colour
I struggle with mixing paints to create the colour, knowing what colour i need since artists use colours i wouldnt of dreamed of, creating details, creating fur effects

where can i get that image to practice on?
what type of tracing paper is this?
How long did this take you to do?
i lovvved it thank you ❤
