This is the best compliment ever! When I started my channel, I just knew that there had to be other people who wanted to craft things that both cheap AND good! I'm so glad you found me. Thanks for getting it!!! ❤️
That is by far the easiest way I've seen to make a tentacle. Planning on using this to make horns for cosplay. Truly a simplistic way of achieving excellent results
Thanks, Brian! Depending on how big you want your horns to be, instead of a pool noodle you can get foam hair rollers that are like smaller pool noodles already wired on the inside. I used them in my spooky plant vid. Got 'em at Dollar Tree 🇨🇦.
The shape of your tentacle is absolutely perfect. I love this entire project and that you made it accessible and cheap. When you said $7 was too much it made me feel so seen and not alone 😂 I'm poor and that's a lot for bolts!
Right!?! When you have a limited budget, you've got to make it count - and $7 was a waste when I could make bolt heads with clay I already had. Not ALL of my projects are this cheap - but I do try to make my spending count! Thanks for watching and I'm so glad you feel seen. It really makes me feel proud of the work I'm doing here!
Fabulous! Just sent this to my best friend on the Ultimate World Cruise...would be awesome in their cabin bathroom and bring home as keepsake from their trip! 🎉

You explain the process in easy to follow steps and your humor really shines through..... Basically you are awesome! HAPPY MOTHERS DAY TO YOU AND ALL WHO ARE READING THIS!!!
Happy Mother's Day to you too and thanks for your kind words! I think everybody should learn to build things with their own hands - whether through art, cooking, engineering, construction, or a mix of them all ❤️
I love it! Very unique and a little spooky. I was thinking, i have a bit of extra plexiglass in the garage. I could put that around the inside of the porthole in a jagged fashion to look like it broke through the window.
I think you are extremely talented thank you for sharing your outstanding work. I love paper mache and molding with my hands. I found your channel looking for a way to make a coat rack tree from a shower curtain rod. I want it to look like true finished wood but wood grain contact paper looks like wood grain contact paper. But i will use your techniques to get an authentic look. I really enjoy your instructions and your wit. 😂 Again thank you. You are a master crafter and your hands are blessed. ❤
Jane - you are an inspiration! I bet your kids loved it when they saw how you solved a problem so creatively. I would never have thought of adding the DAS clay, what a brilliant idea. It gets rid of those sharp edges that are left by the paper underneath. I am so impressed. Thank you from London, England. You have made one Art teacher really smile!

Making one 💯and for the portal I’ll cut some plexiglass to make it like the squid broke down he window. Thank you for your amazing idea. You’re a great artist. Subscribe instantly ❤❤
And for smaller rivets (I think it's called "rivets" but am not completely sure as I'm no native English speaker) one can use lentils... the stuff you put in soup, you know... 😁 They are not as perfectly shaped as googly eyes but I've used them for some Steampunk projects and it was fine. It all depends on the project. 😊
Love the method for building up the arm! And it's an arm, with suckers to the end. Only thing I'd change for myself is cephalopod colouration - the only link is they all have reds!
Yes, I’m also very interested in what type of clay did you use. In the past I primarily use baked clays , but I’m interested in finding out more about air drying clays and found this project very inspiring.
There's so many different types of air dry clays, but this one I used is paper-based. All the paper fibres help to reduce shrinking (and thereby cracking) when it dries, which is really good for this type of application.
The only thing that I think would work would be to coat them in epoxy resin designed for boat making (like Total Boat). That said, I've never tried it myself. Good luck!
I have pinned several of those expensive octopus lamps and was looking for ideas on how I could recreate them. You have now made that possible. Thank you!

@@janesawyermakes you refer to it any way you like, I'm not offended. I say craft and friends look at me weird....but i say maker, and that just confuses them! Now off to Michaels to see whats on clearance! 😂
You could try coating it in epoxy resin and it might last you a few years outdoors, depending on how severe your weather is. I'd do some testing first, though!
Can you elaborate on the trick you did with the "primer" to prevent bleed thru with the masking tape? How does spreading paint on the tape prevent leaking paint?
I put down a bit of base coat so if any leaks through, you can't tell. When I let that dry, it seals the tape so the next layer CAN'T leak. When the final layer is still wet I can pull off the tape. With this method I usually get a really clean, sharp tape-pull. Works when painting walls and trim too!
Just amazing. Great job. But I kept getting distracted by that beautiful painting. It goes really well next to the tentacle. Did you make that as well?
Amazing! I want to make some for my Halloween dark siren costume. Are they heavy when done? I’m wondering if I could skip the wrap around clay to make it lighter?
Yes, the clay does make it heavier. I'm working on something similar and covering it with foam clay. It's much lighter! Hoping to post the vid for this project shortly!
