How to Make a Realistic Piranha Plant
This video will walk you step-by-step through how I used a walnut shell and polymer clay to create a realistic piranha plant. I'm adding this plant to the spooky plant collection I started last October. You can check out those three projects here: th-cam.com/video/X-1mCfhgXbg/w-d-xo.html
*The piranha plant or Pakkun Flower (パックンフラワー, Pakkun Furawā) is a fictional plant species created by Nintendo Co. for their Mario francise media. This transformation of that character has been created for educational purposes based on promotional work By Shigehisa Nakaue (artist) / Nintendo (owner) - SuperMarioWiki, Fair use, en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?curid=77733527

    The "packing paper" is known as "Kraft paper" by those in the know.

      Where I'm from, Kraft paper is a heavier brown paper that comes on a roll and is usually thicker than I would recommend for paper maché.

    You just blow my mind with the incredible ideas you come up with when creating. Wrapping the legs in that felting fabric, to poking it with a felting needle to how you installed them and the list goes on. Are you a prop artist for movies? If not you should be. As for the flies, I agree with you, I think it cheapens it a little. Keep on posting😊

    Question: I made a stump base to set a serving platter on top of to serve hors d'oeuvres. It will go on a buffet table for a forest themed event. It turned out really cool but I'm thinking if someone spills food on it, how am I going to clean it off? What kind of sealer should I put over the paint to protect it? Thanks in advance for your advice, You have such great ideas I figured you'd know what to use.

    • @janesawyermakes
      @janesawyermakes 8 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Epoxy resin would REALLY seal it, you'd have to buff it with some steel wool to make it matte (wear a respirator!). That's probably overkill for occasional use, so I'd probably use a brush-on matte polycrylic.

    I like the two different ways of doing things. That way you're getting a larger audience when one way seems too hard or too easy. Also, some people may not have access to certain materials, like you mentioned.

    As a designer, thank you for inspiring me to paper mache for the first time in 50 years. I was a child and in school the last time I did it. I forgot all about it, but you got me going again! With my event rentals, I decided to create a fake rock. While I'm doing it the messy way, (don't mind the messy hands) your tips and tricks were so helpful. Question, have you ever put mortar or quick cement over paper mache? I'm thinking the glue should protect the cardboard. I'll just give the top more layers. The cement only goes a half inch thick (according to my other TH-cam trainer). I rent artificial woods (trees, shrubs, grasses, flowers) and I thought it would be so cool to learn how to make boulders. I'm starting out small to practice. Thank you for inspiring me!

    • @janesawyermakes
      @janesawyermakes 23 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I've never put cement on paper maché, but I thing Jonni from Ultimate Paper Maché has some info on that! Best luck!

    • @JCIL64313
      @JCIL64313 16 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I'll check it out, Thank you. I didn't see your response until today. I have an update after the fact. I put cement over the paper mache and it worked. My paper mache mix was runnier and thinner (flour, water,salt) and I paper macheed both the outside and inside of the hollow box for added strength and let it dry for 48 hours before adding the cement. Leaving it hollow allows me to hide needed tools under the rock when it's time to tear down the event. I have not done the texture coat yet, although the concrete, since there's rocks in it, gave a good texture, but I want a top coat so I can change the color and use mortar/drywall combination. I don't know if it's going to work but I'll let you know.

    • @janesawyermakes

      it would fall off. There is a way to harvest wood so that the bark doesnt fall off, but I have no idea when this tree was cut, so safer to take it off. 😊

    Thank you so much. I knew there had to be a better way than the sloppy, dripping flour and water method. This is much preferrable to the craft mess I remember from childhood. I use junk mail, old bill receipts from 2 years ago, greeting card envelopes, etc. for the base paper. It does my heart good to keep wastepaper out of the landfill and into something useful.
