Why does the government always have to take a cut out of everything? You pay a sales tax when you buy a new car. The. When you sell it the buyer pays an additional sales tax. Why is the car taxed twice?

Wish I had anything like that in my country. We now have to pay a tax on an item which costs more than $150. Once I bought a Seiko for $500 and had to pay around $170 tax in total.

I am contemplating on buying a luxury bag, coincidentally from Eady too. This is very helpful. I don't like the unknown. Thank you for this video.

What would happen if you import a watch to US, pay customs duty, and then return the watch? Can you get the customs duty refunded back to you?

I just bought 2 Alexander Shorokhoffs from Germany, and Shorokhoff just sent me the import duty papers. I guess now I have to wait for the Fedex invoice first. I see two painful problems here: 1) The import duty fee, which adds to the original price when I thought I was saving a lot of money; and 2) the waiting process, which I guess adds a couple of days to the delivery timeline. Time is crucial for luxury goods; the longer the delivery takes, the greater the damage risks. Thanks for this excellent video.

Yes I agree and emphasize that in the video. What you experienced is what is typical with higher duties where FedX will hold your package until you pay. Mine was not held up because the total duty was $32 of which $10 is FedX's brokerage fee. Chump change for FedX. I get all excited from time to time when I see a vintage Rolex for $1,300 less than here in the US but after you add duties, are you really saving? It's only really worth if if it's somehting you cannot get in your country as long as it is understood that the duty bill can somtimes be a bit painfull.

@@24hourgmtchannel64 I should add, based on my recent experience, that if you want to save yourself headaches --dealing with customs and fedex, which are both awful-- just go to a good jewelry store and buy something that is available. That's what I have always done, with my 5 watches; this experience of buying from Germany already became a nightmare.

What is the import duty for a luxury watch if you buy abroad in Japan and travel back to the U.S. and go through customs?

nothing unless you declare it....mail the box and papers home and just wear the watch or put it in your baggage.

I was thinking about buying a 16570 Explorer 2 from Japan but the taxes on Chrono24 & import duty fees make it not worth it anymore.

All of these fees are a scam don't even try to make sense of it governments basically make these numbers depending how they feel on the day.

Yep it's crazy. You get taxed on the front end and again on the back when you import goods.

@@24hourgmtchannel64 I'm from Ireland over here customs contacts you directly either by post or email. Just like FedEX they take an admin fee on top of the customs charges which is fucking stupid since you're dealing directly with the government. I've had a couple of things charged falsely and was able to get refunded the customs charges but they not the admin fees. It's all a scam.
