Can You Beat Halo Reach Without Taking Any Damage? (in text form)
Reach begins with a cutscene showing the blue and green guy arriving at an outpost or something and listening in on a conversation between Carter and Holland. There’s some foreshadowing, an air ride, and taking Call of Duty back to its roots with boots on the ground gameplay. I was almost immediately bothered by the fact that the crosshair is not centered on the screen. But like one of the holes in my sock, I eventually stopped being afraid and got over it.
Unparalleled destruction was revealed, nobody knew what forces of evil were responsible for such reprehensible actions. After meeting with the civilians and attempting to murder them, we encountered the Covenant for the first time. The way this run works is rather simple: any time I take damage, I reload the last checkpoint. This forces me to get through any situation without taking damage since I can’t save-scum my way through it like I could in Fallout or Skyrim by making a new save every 7 seconds.
Also, something new you’ll notice on the screen is a timer and reset counter. The timer is self-explanatory and the reset counter isn’t necessarily for reset, it’s for the number of times I took damage and had to reset. I try to approximate how long certain difficult portions of a game take, but this provides more content. And if you’re wondering, yes, it was a nightmare to add the reset counter. I regretted it almost immediately.
Carter and I rode off a cliff when I tried to send him and Jorge to their death, it worked the 2nd time, we fought more Covenant, and rode to another area. The aliens beat us there. This revealed one of the annoying parts of Reach that would be present throughout the rest of the game, the unfortunate placement of checkpoints. In this instance, the checkpoint is when you’re still in the air, so failing means you wait until you land over and over and over again. It doesn’t seem like it would be that bad, but when you fail here you’re waiting 25 seconds just for the chance to try again.
The upside to combat in general is that everything your facing fires plasma based weapons. The projectiles are fast, but not so fast that they’re impossible to dodge. In close quarters it’s a fruitless endeavor, like putting the pieces of a broken coffee mug back together. When there’s some distance though, it’s more than possible to evade their shots. We had to wait a bit for Katherine to work her way into the door controls, you can tell she’s the worker because she has a robot hand. I took damage multiple times here. After several failures, I decided to just sit back and let the other Spartans do most of the work. They’re Spartans, they can’t end.

@@brendanlee1972 I researched it and the only nanotech they used with Spartans was in their armor, so they technically were never given anything that would have suitably defined them as Cyborg. Genetically Modified Human is more apt.
They were reshaped; in muscle mass, bone structure, nervous system, brain function, and almost every-single-thing in between. But they were never given mechanically infused injections, or artificial augmentations of any kind. They really were Human, through and through. But they were the weapons-grade version of us. Essentially a machine in their thinking and operating, but they could still feel every bit of it the same as us.

Unfortunately, without actually looking over the achievements, I wasted 15 minutes jumping off that cliff. I finally got it, and was confused when I didn’t get the achievement. Upon looking at the achievement list, I got sad because it wasn’t there..

The timer really makes me appreciate how much editing he did. 10 and a half hours of footage to sift through to make a 20 minute video.

To be fair that's roughly industry standard.
A 10 hour day on a film set translates to roughly 2 minutes of edited footage, obviously you aren't filming for 100% of that 10 hour day but to get 20 minutes of content would require 2 weeks of filming, which would probably be around the 10 hour of raw footage mark

That's me saying that yes, while you don't film for 10 hours straight on the day to get the 2 minutes of footage, to get 20 mins of edited content would roughly be two weeks of filming, which would roughly be 10 hours of raw footage

True to a point but not as much as you think. They tend to have specialized editors for highly specialized parts (Eg, a VFX editor, a colour grader, an audio mixer [All things Mitten Squad don't do in their videos anyway]) but in terms of actually building story it's usually just one editor (Maybe an assistant as well) sitting down with the director.
I'm not saying Mitten Squad doesn't put in a lot of effort or sift through a lot of footage, I'm just saying it's pretty much industry standard, nothing exceptional.
Believe it or not, there is a formula for which footage to grab. Once you've got your script, you grab cutscenes, read script, then fill in with footage from the rest of the script's read time.
Yes, it's time consuming, but it only takes about as long as it takes to record 10hrs or so of footage.

At the end when you're on the cannon you can actually avoid damage. You are given a hologram at somepoint, you can sit behind the cannon and wait till you're ordered to shoot the target. Just before you put out your hologram and take the shot. It's how i did the end on legendary.

Yep idk if you even need the hologram if you have them fast hands. Either way the challenge is pretty possible of course discounting the last level
Edit: Lone Wolf is also possible I found in the other comments just walk into the kill barrier at the edge of the map quickly enough and presto no damage
Well I did because having like 4 phantoms and 3 banshees shoot at you during that 3 second charge up is brutal, plus the getting in animation takes a second or two.

Imagine having to watch the whole gameplay and count how many times you died/restarted from a previous checkpoint just to add a death counter. That takes dedication to count that high.
Depending on the capture software he's using. It could be as simple as a key command to increase the counter while playing.
Or it could be as you said and done in post, in that case yeah he's a trooper.

There is an achievement it's for surviving a killing height fall with an assassination and that's the only spot you can do it
That’s not the only place you can do that. You can do it on new Alexandria if you’re crazy enough. All the achievement states is that you have to survive a fatal fall by assassinating an elite.

The interesting part about this is that the “Lone Wolf” mission doesn’t actually ‘count’ as a mission. Mild flex, but me and my 3 mates completed the reach campaign on legendary in under 3 hours, however the interesting thing was that it awarded us with the achievement upon finishing the Pillar of Autumn mission, before actually beginning Lone Wolf. That being said, it is still impossible to take 0 damage seconds before the end of the final mission in the MAC cannon, which is kind of a bummer...

I went for the jumping assassination achievement in the MCC too. Turns out it's only on the 360 release and I wasted an hour.
Hate to see it.
Could be that it didn't proc the first time, I had to do it twice because I did it the first time without even thinking about it, first try, but then I saw the Achievement and was like "Sunovabitch!" and you also need to be on Legendary for the Achievement I do believe.

Impressive, most people give up after only getting it once or twice. Lots of RNG involved in it.
I had the exact same thing happen to me on a different game. There's an achievement in Dead Rising 2 to get the first survivor to attack one of the final bosses in the game. Meaning, keep her with you until the game is almost over, then hope she gives him a smack when the time comes.
Turns out, it's only on one of the weird DR2 expansion games, and I got it mixed up because those all run together for me. So I wasted my time.
21:00 I used to have those SAME nightmares! I can only vaguely remember that there were tons of colors and Optimus Prime for some reason. I'd wake up within minutes and always throw up. I would have that nightmare maybe once a year, and people always called me crazy when I tried to explain it to them.
I've never heard of dreams like that it sounds scary and disorienting.
I had something like that once too. But it wasn't as nice as that. Everything was a shade of red, everything I saw was made up of cubes or squares like skyscrapers and stuff and I had to count them all (I seem to remember getting to the tens of thousands). And I would wake up (I think) during it and then fall asleep again, repeatedly. I never got sick but when I woke up properly I had like a panic attack or something. Only happened once I think.

I remember being so hyped for this game with all the new features including all the new armor features and the assassination animations. Spent so much fucking time murdering myself trying to get the _If They Came to Hear Me Beg_ achievement. Fuck that achievement.
The crosshair is meant to force you to take in the the beautiful sceneries in the halo games. Its pretty genius, if you think about it.

You can tactically block the phantom shots with the MAC's gun, as the front can count as a 'shield'. It's difficult, but possible.

I’ve never ever noticed that the crosshairs isn’t center, even while playing. Now that you have said that.... I can’t get it out of my head. Uve opened my eyes to a real hell lol
what if i told you it's been that way since Halo 2.
So for future reference, on the level "Long Night of Solace", you can tell how much damage your Sabre fighter has taken in the top left corner of your HUD. As for the execution achievement for killing that Elite Minor from the ledge at the very start of "The Pillar of Autumn", that achievement was removed
Its not an achievement on the mcc, I tried for 30 minutes and when I finally did it I didn’t get an achievement.
The achievement only triggered if your character was doing a specific assassination animation. That might have been the problem. Or the MCC version doesn't have that achievement. One or the other.

i got so close to beating this game on legendary with no deaths. obviously not in a row but one mission at a time. for some reason i saw one of those older youtubers (not seananners or hutch but one of that group, i forget his name though) do the first couple of missions but then he stopped the series. presumably because it was painfully hard. but i continued his fight. that is until the penultimate mission, which was fucking impossible. anyway, cheers for bringing back those memories.
The lowered crosshair is actually genius, it means you look up, off the ground, so you see more of the environment instead of ground. I use that setting for Destiny 2 also.
The interesting part about this is that the “Lone Wolf” mission doesn’t actually ‘count’ as a mission. Mild flex, but me and my 3 mates completed the reach campaign on legendary in under 3 hours, however the interesting thing was that it awarded us with the achievement upon finishing the Pillar of Autumn mission, before actually beginning Lone Wolf. That being said, it is still impossible to take 0 damage seconds before the end of the final mission in the MAC cannon, which is kind of a bummer...

One time in high school when I was really pissed about getting 20 separate assignments (50 math problems each btw) I yelled at my math teacher to tell me what the hell kinda of job would require this kind of “Common Core Algebra” bullsh*t. She snarkishly replied “being a math teacher requires it”.

I feel bad for anyone watching this with captions on and most likely getting very confused around 18:50. It looks like he meant to talk a little more about the section after the tower defense part and collecting Cortana, and THEN transitioning into the part about y he kept throwing himself off a cliff, but for whatever reason he opted to leave it out of the video. However he left it in the captions for the video, so we're left reading the captions of the original script and wondering how losing track of how many times u died has anything to do with lunging off a cliff onto an elite.
