Just a small screw between the locking mechanism wedge in. will do the trick doesn’t take much to keep the connector in place

Take a picture w/phone.
Don't remove the weather seal as it is crimped onto the connector as well. You can remove the pin just by unlocking the connector and pushing up on the retaining tab as you lightly pull the wire. If you remove the seal make sure you recrimp it to make a water tight seal.

Um no, how would that help replace the broken part? The rubber has to come out, it has three ridges on the rubber that slide inside the connector.

Wedge the hole when it's together. Then electrical tape it.
Use a cut off zip tie - works great and saves time. A good tech sprays the rubber seal with silicone spray or uses a Qtip to put a small amount of Moly lube on the rubber seal. So it never leaks water again and will outlast the vehicle.
You make it look so easy. In real life if the lock tab breaks and you replace the male side you better replace the female side also
Rap some electrical tape around it and call it a day.

Two words for ya! Zip-tie
In a pinch you can use silicone to keep the connectors together. Just plug them in and apply silicone to both sides, so it's kinda bridging both connectors. It's pliable and not permanent so if you ever have to unplug the connector, just remove the silicone.
Of course you can replace the connector housing like in the video. This would be the right way to address a broken locking tab.

@@Socks3657 both have the same end result, the goal is to keep the connector in place.
It's not always possible to get a new connector . And the retaining tab often breaks when replacing the sensor . Customer often won't want to wait a day or 2 to find a new connector.
'YEARS' ago I found that "Packer-Delphi" (P. E. D. on the plastic housing standing for Packard Electrical Division!) has the site to download the catalogs with their connectors, pins, etc. I worked for Waste Management, retired in 2015, and I had the items needed to repair all the new generation of connectors found on MACK, Volvo and other HD chassis used on the garbage trucks in the fleet. If you're interested, "Terminal Supply Company" also sells all the needed items. Good hunting! 😁

Or... You could just take 15 mins and replace it the right way. Any auto parts store can get the replacement pigtail through dorman help series. I use them all of the time.

@Jordan__Sloan zip ties are used by car manufacturers themselves and to use a zip tie to secure plug connectors is perfectly acceptable. You indignant dork.
You do not pry out the weather seal, the seal isn’t something that you should be able to ‘slide back’ as it should have been crimped with the wire.

No. Heat from the engine will cook away the adhesive, allowing the connector to come loose and you’ll have issues. Just do it right the first time.

@@asid731 really any auto parts store or the dealership. I’ve been buying a lot of stuff at rock auto. Just like any other part - give them your make model and year and tell them which connector you need.

Never knew they stocked empty connectors. I am a bit skeptical because of the great variety of connectors on the market. I just replaced all my fuel injector connectors by splicing in prewired ones from amazon.

Before remong color coded or polarized wires, take pictures of them first. You just might screw up what goes where. Having built and maintained radio studios, I take pictures of everything before unplugging or dismantling!
I also agree to use a manufacturers extraction tool and not a screwdriver or pocketknife.
Hmm. Last time I seen this I took the thick blue Rubber band off of asparagus and used it to hold the clip together. (On my sister’s 95 Grand Prix). Maybe 10 years ago, I would bet it is still there. Her son drives it now

Two tools you should always have with you. Zip ties and bungee chords. Fix almost anything, long enough to get you home.
