  • Our trip from Tulbagh to Riebeek West was a soggy adventure, with rain pouring down during the entire journey, including our scenic drive towards the town on a gravel road. Despite the downpour, the sight of the Berg River flowing strongly as we crossed the low water bridge was captivating. Upon our arrival in town, the rain persisted, but we made the most of it. We were pleasantly surprised to discover that the Riebeek Valley Special School was thriving. What piqued our interest even more was learning that two former South African Prime Ministers were born on farms just outside Riebeek West and once competed in a historic election. Before departing, we indulged in a delectable meal at Angie's Coffee Shop & Bistro. Our visit to Riebeek West was truly a memorable experience despite the wet weather. #DustBugs #adventuretravel #southafrica #southafricavlog #travelongravel #westerncape #riebeekwest

My hubby ask me to send you and Sonja a message thanking you for showing us South Africa. It's nice to sit in front of the tv after a hectic day at work and watch you two travelling
At least now we can see the beauty through your eyes. Thank you

We're just too happy to share the beauty of all the places we visit in this incredible country with you. 😍🇿🇦 It's awesome that you enjoy travelling along. Thank you for your comment and for watching our videos, we appreciate that very much! 👌🏻

We so enjoy your videos - I just said to my wife the gravel road would be slippery, and then Curtis said "It's slippery here". The dust (sand) roads bring back memories for us - one event was that, my then girlfriend, now wife of very nearly 49 years and I had been out at friends one evening on the highveld. On the way home two guys tried to force us off the (tar) road, obviously just to make trouble - I knew the area because it was where my wife's family lived and managed to get the drop on them, getting past and going for it to stay ahead of them. We then turned onto the sand road and, with the huge amount of dust the car made, they could not chase us, because they wouldn't have been able to see where they were going - thank you gravel / sand road

I'm happy to hear you enjoy our videos, thank you! 🚙😁 That's a rather scary gravel road story, much more so than our slippery one on the way to Riebeek West. No wonder we love dusty roads so much, they even help one out when in danger! 😨

Hi you two! Gravel road! What more can one ask for? Wet gravel road!! Thank you for your efforts to take me to visit Riebeek Wes. It is such a beautiful old town. It always amazes me when such small and old places near big cities/towns, can keep on growing (albeit not enormously) and retain their identity without losing everything to the nearby metropolis. Riebeek Wes has its roots in agriculture of course, but nevertheless. The town is so very neat and green, surrounded by the endless vineyards and other abundant vegetation. I would really like living there, having my meals at Angies. Angies is obviously much more than a coffee shop. I could spend hours there studying and marveling at all those pictures and novelties.
I enjoyed this trip in the rain very much. The rain made it feel even more real. Thank you, and
    Keep safe!

We were itching for some gravel, so we took it any way it came that day! 😁 It was actually quite a cool drive, despite it being so wet and we thoroughly enjoyed it. It sounds like you did too and that always makes me happy! Angies is a warm, friendly place where we felt at home immediately and the food was great too! 🥩🍗 The rain was more-or-less our constant companion on this trip, but it somehow enhanced the natural beauty all around. Thank you for putting on your raincoat and coming along! 🚙🌧️

And in such abundance, with only Mother Nature tending to them! 😍🌷We don't have green fingers at all, we spent 18 months figuring out how to get our orchid to bloom and we couldn't believe it when it finally did! 😁

Hi guys another gem loved the drive in rolling hills white lily's a real rural scene with horses and cows .the big DRF church was confusing to date because I was sure the windows were Crittall metal windows 50s 60s style then the information cleared it up built in 1858 then refurbished 100 years later!!! The public pool topnotch especially with the two Egyptian geese very interesting about the special school. Amazing history of Smuts and Malaan I think I mentioned in a previous video that I worked on Smuts house near Pretoria which is a Nat monument no I've seen where he was born brilliant. I have another connection to Smuts in that an old guy I knew well was his motorbike courier in WW1 in East Africa he told me lots of stories ( one was the SA army arrived in East Africa plenty of ammo guns horses but no razors so they all had beards after a few weeks lol) the Malaan stunning loved the pleasant phesant I have them in my garden occasionally!!! .the cement factory was a big operation with the conveyor over the road. Shame you couldn't get closer to Smuts house but you could see it was old with the thatched roof and small windows your food looked lovely my mouth was watering!! A great video a English vibe but that's probably the rain thanks for taking me along cheerio till the next one

There you go with your architectural knowledge, helping us solve the mystery of the DRF church. 💒 I remember you mentioning Smuts House outside Pretoria. We were surprised to read that he was born on a (now) cement farm! So interesting to read about the WW1 courier. I would imagine razors were the last thing on their minds! 😨 We felt like we were travelling in the English countryside with the incessant rain, something we've not encountered often on our travels. I hope you felt right at home in Riebeek West! 😁🚙🌧️

What a nice town. I often went there to work. I love the vegetation it is beautiful. The rain added some charater to this trip. All wet and cleanly washed off. The Swar and Malan strey is awesome and so unreal. Thanks for this trip. Well done an relaxing. I will wait at the pick up point for the next one

It was raining virtually the entire time while we were in town and we actually enjoyed it very much. 😍🌧️ The vegetation just looks so much greener during and after the rains. The story of Smuts and Malan was very cool, I thought quite the coincidence that two successive Prime Ministers would come from this area. Thanks for coming back with us to an area you know well. We'll see you at the next stop! 🚙😁

Horses in rain-coats! Cute!!WE used to travel quite a bit in this area, visiting Riebeeck West and Riebeeck-Kasteel. Its so brave of you to continue to film in such a downpour. Really beautiful NG Kerk. So peaceful inside, daar kan ek kuier! Gosh! Quite a climb up there into the steeple! Cool to see the swimming pool. hope the Egyptian geese dont get affected by the chlorine. So interesting to catch up with the history, thanks so much, Sonia!❤Hey, listen youguys! My daughter gave birth to a beautiful little girl at 4.44 this morning! I now have a granddaughter. Held her in my arms this afternoon, so precious!

Congratulations, Grandma! 🎀 Loving clouds so much, you must be on Cloud 999! That is such awesome news! Sonia is particularly chuffed because of all the 4's in the little one's time of birth, four being her lucky number! 4️⃣ She says she predicts great things for that precious little girl! May she bring you and your entire family the greatest of joy. 💗 We're in a place at a certain time on a certain day and have to make the most of it, no matter the weather. It was actually fun in the rain, we just loved those horses clad in raincoats! 😍🐎🌧️

We are working on something though, so keep watching! 🚙😁

Ahhh I love this I used to work around the township close to the Pick ‘n Pay u passed and my 9 months there at Ruby Rose Country House as a junior manager was the most precious time I’ve ever heard pity I had to leave my dear friend Van der Merwe to pursue better pastures in the Kruger still I wanna settle there for life if I ever get the opportunity

It was very interesting to hear how the 'c' in Riebeeck was dropped for the name of this town. I don't blame you for thinking that the cement conveyer was a ski jump, especially in the weather that day! Just the snow was missing! 😁⛷️ I hope your royal couple has a fruitful visit to our beautiful country, which will strengthen the relationship between our two countries. 🇿🇦🇱🇺 Our rainy visit to this pretty town was topped off by a delicious meal at Angies. Thank you for taking the time to join us again, you're always so welcome! 🚙😊

I believe there was some dispute in the church and the two towns of Riebeek West and Riebeek-Kasteel were established around the two separate congregatations. 💒
