One of the best weapons available, that’s why you see so many models sporting one right after its Lostech was discovered. Very nice on scouts so they can keep their distance; so nice for the big boys so that they always have a long stick to reach out and touch someone.
Really a good weapon for anyone that can carry one. Its only real drawback is its 8 shots per ton... Even be big boys can't stay in the field long without having to take the time to reload.
I was never very good with the Gauss in Mechwarrior Online, but oddly enough a few of my favorite memories of that game involve the Gauss Rifle. Early on during the beta the Gauss Catapult was the meta mech, and the clan I was with at the time wanted to run "training" on that. So we had 8v8 running nothing but the Gauss Catapult. Meh. Anyways I've always been a better scout and skirmisher than a sniper, so there I am bumbling around in my big chunky heavy, and who manages to get a lucky headshot and drop the lead enemy, but little old me! Everybody was like "whoa he's such a good shot to hit the head at that distance!" And for all I know I was aiming at the guy behind him...... Another favorite Gauss Rifle moment was also during the beta, on the forest map I had decided to run my Gauss-toting Hunchback as a sidekick to a buddy's Atlas. So.. where he went, I went, and of course that's a great way to stay alive because when you see an Atlas bearing down on you you tend not to even see the Hunchback running on its flank. The Atlas pilot was running the K variant I think, so it was slowly advancing up the shoreline, and an enemy heavy or assault was squaring off and trading shots. I was weaving from one side of the Atlas, behind it to the other side, back and forth, presenting every time my Gauss reloaded, letting off the shot, then ducking behind that giant slab of walking armor. I remember loving the graphical effect of the shower of sparks flying out of my barrel as I fired, and the visceral SPANG and spray of more sparks and armor fragments as my gauss rounds impacted on the enemy 'mech.
The Gauss is such a fun weapon to use. Swapping out the AC20 for a Gauss on the hunchback is a great upgrade. I'm surprised it was not the official 3050 version. Sadly by the time I started to play Mechwarrior online the game had kind of played out. Meta had been established and everyone had their best gear. I tried to play but I just don't have time to get good enough to do anything other than die a lot.
@@DreamMadeProductions Yeah I hear that... any sort of shooter game has a skill curve, and the more you play the better you play, no doubt about it. I've had a few stretches where I was all practiced up and could hold my own, and plenty of times when I was super rusty and gave the other side some good target practice.
More BattleTech content! I am here for it. This has quickly become one of my favorite TH-cam series. My Gauss platform of choice remains the Hollander. Editing on point btw.
The weapon that helped to level the playing field against the Clans. All the advanced tech in the world won't keep that ferrous slug from blasting nearky a ton of armor off your sides, or from vaporizing you on your command couch from down the block. I've gotten to use Gauss Rifles to deadly effect in the Gunslinger, the Devastator, and the Challenger XI MBT. They're delightful, and every hit is meaningful.
The Gauss is a game changer. Before it your only real chance for a one-shot head kill was the AC20. Now even clan mechs have to worry about peaking their head out. It is just mean.
Gauss bar none is one of my favorite weapons Nightstar, Madcat MK II are among my favorite mechs because of it. Something about letting one off in mech warrior 4 just watching the shock waves off the shell you just feel like you let something powerful off.
As much as I love mechwarrior 3... 4 just did a much better job with the gauss. In MW3 it looked and sounded little a little pew pew gun. In 4 is looked and sounded like a gauss rifle.
@@DreamMadeProductions when you look at it 2 tons is the only difference between. The clan and is gauss you can see why the IS started putting it on anything I use the nightstar a ton Madcat mk II a ton in the Civil War era. The Blood asp another twin gauss user kind of chose my original clan for me.
You have good taste. Magnetic acceleration will ALWAYS be classy. I know they have official sound effects in the computer games but for me they will always sound like the mass driver in the last level of Halo Reach, that loud church-bell like CLANG as the round leaves the barrel.
@@lexington476 Cool. The sound is so much like a gun. What I really meant was I wish I knew what it was like when those 15 inch pneumatic guns of the Vesuvius fired... What was that like. Sadly she lost her unique armament in 1904 so... I guess that is lost to history.
2:36 you know bow weapons are in the BT role-playing game, just saying 🙂. You should do a whole right up on the short bow from the role-playing game 😎.

It's awesome that we are seeing the first examples of a weapon that was scifi just a decade ago.
3:17 yeah that was a bit of a crazy cannon 😀.
I kind of wish I could see one of those things "fire". What was it like to be on the ship when those guns went off?

Lol. Hit a leg with those dual Heavy Gausses and they will be in the low rider.
12:42 okay, how about a video on the machine gun 🙂? You already did the AC/2 🙂.
I was kicking around the machine gun... but I wasn't sure how interested people would be. I'll bump this one up in the lineup then.

@@lexington476 Oh sorry I misread that. I've never played the BT RPG. Which version?
12:49 do they stuck a gauss rifle on Hollander.
If I'm not mistaken the Hollander was designed around its gauss. Crazy design.
