    I love the simplicity of this Jeep. We are starting to see far more Wranglers in UK because they work with a family, hold their value and are way more fun than everything else.

    i think the common theme here is the tires. it's either the tire itself, or the tire pressure that was killing your performance on this. when you end up out with dirt trails you're gonna do just fine.

    Crazy thing people say big, wide tires don’t do good in the snow. I have a JT on 39x13.5r17 BFG KM3s that does great aired down to 12 or less in the snow. 4 high with limited slip in the rear and I have had no problems. To my knowledge you shouldn’t have lockers on when snow wheeling.

    I thought my lockers weren't working on my JK, but after taking about the whole diff it turned out to just be the sensor that registers if its locked or not had failed, NOT the locker. The locker was still engaging just fine and locking up, the sensor just wasn't showing locked. So maybe put your jeep on your slip test and you could check if the front locker was actually locking and it's just your sensor not showing locked. The sensor has zero effect on the operation of the locker, so if it turns out to just be the sensor you could just leave it if you dont mind the blinking light, the front locker will still lock and unlock just fine with a failed sensor.

    I have the 2017 20th Anniversary Edition (which mainly added some badging and a different leather interior) and just love it. I actually prefer that “old” dash to the newer ones. AEV’s engineering and design of their components and modifications are rock solid, providing safe, comfortable on-road performance with great off-road capabilities. Given the cost of new JLs (not to mention the total cost when adding the AEV mods), I would say you guys made out well. According to Brad at Trail Recon, there are really only a few, well-known repairs to expect when the engine passes around 100,000 miles, which is perfectly acceptable in my opinion.

    As others have said, a chalk test would be a good place to start to get an ideal contact patch on the ground. Lowering tire pressure even lower when the terrain dictates, just be careful you don’t pop a bead wall in certain conditions while off road and at very low tire pressures. Lockers are also very helpful and Jeep still doesn’t offer them on any Wrangler other than a Rubicon. ✌🏼

    How safe are these roll bars near your head for city/highway driving? Seems like one can easily get a fatal blow to the head in an accident that one would otherwise easily survive? I know many people who would not drive a vehicle with a roll cage unless it has a 5 point harness and/or wear a helmet. We need you guys to continue generating amazing content. That roll bar looks seriously bad for non off road driving… maybe it needs to be covered with some material so if one were to bang their head in it, it will not crack one’s skull 😬

    • @backwoodstherapy
      @backwoodstherapy ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Don't even need beadlocks for snow. On temps that cold and snow that slick, you don't have to worry about debeading the tire until you're into single digits.

    • @ridgecamper18
      @ridgecamper18 ปีที่แล้ว

      I run at 5 psi in the snow. No bead locks. This is 2 wheel drive deep snow.

    • @StarGateSG7
      @StarGateSG7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ridgecamper18 5 PSI definitely needs beadlocks where I live (west coast Canada) but I ostly run at 12 PSI and sometimes down to 9 or 10 PSI depending on terrain.
      I usually use a company Jeep Wrangler Rubicon on 37's for off-road but I have access to various other company vehicles which I am allowed to take off-road so I can use our Bronco Sasquatches on 37's, F150 Raptors on 37's, some Jeep Gladiator Rubicons and Wrangler Rubicons on Mickey Thompson 40's and even a few Unimogs.
      We have found 37 inch beadlock tires with 3-peak snow ratings are the MINIMUM setup needed for the combination of heavy rain, wet snow, soft sand and deep mud forest services roads that we have in the southwest coast mountain range in British Columbia, Canada.
      35's just don't do it for us any more since we are ranging farther and farther inland on gnarlier and more overgrown and/or deactivated old logging roads that haven't been maintained in 20 years or more!
      We do a lot of personal prospecting and hunting for old undiscovered mining towns and/or settlements and if we find a good place, our group's head honcho simply buys a claim off the BC Government surface and sub-surface mining claims website and we can then do a bit of gold panning or digging the next weekend.
      It gives us something to do in our off-hours and we get to enjoy a bit of old-style camping in the deep bush at the same time! We don't find much gold dust but it's fun in its own off-road 4x4 trekking and deep-forest camping sort of way!

A limited slip would serve you better and you always thin airing down tires is the solution to everything. NOT SO! You need much more snow and mud experience! I'm surprised at those Mickey Thompsons being that bad. Nice and aggressive, lots of siping, 3PMS rated. Get some Ridge Grapplers or Open Country AT3s. And make sure you're aired down to at least 12 psi in snow - very low risk of debeading the tire at that pressure in the cold and the snow. Or just get beadlocks if it's going to be your dedicated recovery vehicle and then you can air down to single digits.
