Wonderful videos of such a beautiful area. They give me such a feeling of tranquillity and remind me of a very happy holiday with my wife and daughter when we stayed at Dail Cottage on Loch Etive. 40 years ago. We had a 10 foot dinghy with a 5hp Yamaha outboard and our daughter still remembers when a squall suddenly blew up and spray covered her. She looked anxious so I reassured he saying what fun it was. It only lasted a few minutes and then peace and blue sky returned. Thanks. Peter
Hi Peter ..I guess you might know but sadly Dail burn down around 5 years ago. I think it was a chimney fire and obviously the fire brigade couldn't attend ..the rest of the places are all still there though :-D
I canoed most of this bit of Scotland when the A 9 was single track and the bridges wear all stone not concrete , same weather ( shocking lack of real Scotish weather ) . Never saw one tent or one pleasure boat in three weeks ! Lots of nosy seals and friendly fishing boats , one came over specially to show me a beautiful blue green three foot plus lobster ,thank you sir one off my greatest memories . The life in sea locks was VERY DIFFERENT , the bottom was covered with busy brightly colored creatures , i was quite shocked how grey and bare it is now .
Hi SepticWhelk..thanks for commenting and yup..I think we saw the best of Arisaig..not that its changed much..its just too busy in the summer months if you enjoy peace and quiet 😀
Hi Donny, so glad the summer’s last part was friendly to you! Beautiful impression of this sea journey. Really enjoyed the video, comments and good chouce of background music. Well done. Till next time!
Just realised I met you in the summer Erick..it was September before I got round the point ..and even then it was only a few days..thanks for commenting 😀
You make such lovely relaxing videos Donny! A RIB and outboard really are the best way to tour the western coastline of Scotland and safer than kayaking or sailing as you can speed out of bad weather.
Yup..agreed Stuart..I sometimes wonder about getting a Drascombe Lugger or small day sailer but as you say.. I would need long spels of good weather to get anywhere ..where as the wee RIB gets most places in a day 😀
Another fantastic video, Donny! You certainly had the weather to showcase your filming skills and bring the sheer beauty of that area to so many viewers. My sister lives on the shores of Loch Sunart and it's such a beautiful place.
Thanks gjilanijoe ..yup..its a lovely spot that one on Sunart ..however last year I camped on the Dun and got covered in tiny ticks ..which put me off it a bit..but it was fine on the boat tent 😀
A stunning part of the world Donny, thankyou so much for your hard work filming and editing to showcase what Scotland is all about. I was given a ten foot clinker dinghy to repair when i was 14 grampa gave me a sea bee 4hp outboard which he got with kensitas coupons (remember them) but was only allowed to explore loch lomond. I was always skint because I spent all my pocket money on petrol. im 61 now and how i wish i could have those days back. Keep up the good work. thankyou
Sadly..I remember Kensitas coupons only too well..I smoked 20 fags a day for over 30 years.. but gave them up in 2005 and never looked back..couldnt afford to smoke nowadays..as well as the health risks ..I just have enough cash for petrol and keeping the boats going 😀
This has been an epic trip so far and looking forward to the final instalment! Never been to that castle, but it looks amazing, full of history……I bet your special treasure hunting magnet would have been useful there. Cheers
Im sure the gold will be hidden / lost somewhere safe by now Libertas..although some folks find interesting stuff with metal detectors ..I found the magnet fishing relaxing but boring ..I never caught so much as a rusty nail..must try again though :-D
8C ..wow..thats warm ashley..its in the minus figures here now ..and to stay that way for at least two weeks..at least I have plenty wood for the stove 😀
Qaulity Donny! Castle Tioram is some sight...always let my imagination run riot when visiting these ancient strongholds. Theres a walk from the shore side of the castle..starts just across from the sand bar from the castle... Silver walk its called...takes you round to a large old fairly spread out settlement, which was part of the Clearances...i think. i found it eventually...fairly overgrown with some large trees but the hayfield still there and houses spread out down to the shore of Loch Moidart...easier to get to by boat than walking ofcourse....lookin forward to the next part of your adventure
We lived on the north channel of Loch Moidart in a remote cottage on Eilean Shona for nearly 4 years, your video bought back many wonderful memories...thank you.
I must admit nathaire ..I still love that whole area..its just a pity it became so popular. I notice the old schoolhouse on the North Channel was looking well when I passed it so someone must still be using it :-D
@@donnywilcox I lived at Shepherds Cottage, that is the one that you first see as you enter the north channel and it has a red painted porch. We were there full time for nearly 4 years. The School House was extensively renovated whilst we were there and is now a holiday let.
Stunning views showing just how beautiful the west coast of Scotland is. Interested in size and make of your inflatable, if you're fine with me asking.
Hiya Donny, In your smashing video whilst you were at castle about 5.01 ,I was curious when a line of something perhaps a mussel rope stretched out from castle ? Do you know what this was ?
Hi again rha ..I think its just surface "scum" on the water ..carried in the tidal current ..its not anything solid like a rope or something like that ?
@@donnywilcox Thanks for that mystery solved, hopefully your doing well and ready for fresh crispy winter ahead. I'm sure you'll find plenty to do and plan for spring, I always meant to ask if you are not Kean on traveling with a wee 🐕, I took my parsons jack Russell on my wee boat and Everywhere else possible as he kept me sane and safe as his lugs were better than mine, or is Fang enough for the both of you when on the water.
Utterly beautiful filmography, narration and ... scotland! And well done on the music. You have a great talent Donny. This is what I dreamed when I got my wee boat, but sadly I am now again boatless...
Thanks Donny. Enjoying every minute of these videos
Thanks charles and Im delighted you enjoy them 😀
