The biggest pro argument that made me buy an iPad instead of a drawing tablet was the fact that I can draw everywhere and am not bound to draw at a desk all the time, which for me is great and I keep drawing in bed all the time. The 2021 iPad pro also has a thicker screen than the older ones because of the new XDR-Display, that’s probably why with a screen protector drawing gets a bit more wobbly. It shouldn’t happen with the 2020 and 2018 ipad pros.

  • @frickinfrick8488
    @frickinfrick8488 2 ปีที่แล้ว +80

It should also be mentioned that procreate supports animation as well! It’s fairly basic but it’s very intuitive and you’re able to draw with all the same tools which is great. I struggle to find any ways where it’s noticeably inferior to photoshop, but in the end it costing $10 blows photoshop’s overpriced ass out of the water

Small tips: one, definitely get a pencil grip, because they're the same size as normal pencils it's pretty easy to find one that works for you. Next up! there's customization that allows you to disable the tap to eraser thing. (which can be a lot.) For the pencil visibility, I would turn on the brush curser. And just a heads up for the matte protector, if the grain is too deep it can actually damage the tip of you pencil, so just keep an eye out for that. So glad you like procreate!

    • @tillyk3721

I thought my screen protector was causing a wobble too, but found it’s most likely an issue with the iPad’s digitizer, since it’s a lower resolution than the screen itself. It usually only causes the wobble when drawing slower and diagonally. But hey, if a matte protector helped you out that’s great! (And maybe I’ll try it too)

ah sam nice that you like procreate so much and i definitely agree !! you can actually turn off the double tap feature or like change it if you want to! also you can choose in the procreate settings to show the brush cursor to get rid of the "not sharpened pen" feeling :) hope this helps!

The Paperlike screen protector is a good option as well :) As the name implies, it makes the surface feel more like paper. So your screen gets protected AND the normal screen isn‘t slippery like it is without a screen protector (or just any other screen protector)

Been working with Procreate on my 2018 iPad 6th Gen since May 2018. Glad I started with Procreate, since I had no prior experience. I also upgraded to the new M1 12.9 iPad Pro and I'm loving it! Great video I can only agree on your points!

Hi sam I love your work and I've been using Procreate for about 6 months now and my personal favorite of the procreate software is the brush studio and how you can apply certain characteristics to brushes to get that certain feel to a piece.

    Thank you for this video!
I'm looking forward to buying an Ipad in the future and you gave me all the information I needed. I guess moving from real-life sketching to digital art will be kinda awkward but hopefully, I'll get used to this.

Nice video! I've bought one just recently, mostly for the mobility factor, and I really like it as well! Maybe somebody has already said that, but you can buy a special cover for the apple pen in order to decrease its chances to run away. Just make sure to buy one that you can still charge through (I've bought one like that, not sure if there is any which doesn't do that)

For people who use tempered glass and are wanting more stable lines, you may try adjusting the stabilization amount of your brush in the settings. It helps draw really straight, smooth lines…

They actually sell rubber grips (sort of like pencil grips) that you can put on your Apple Pencil to make it easier to hold!

Before Procreate I used to work on clip studio paint for desktop. I watched a couple of tutorials before trying the app, and I was shocked at how easy everything is. All the features I need are 3 clicks away tops, and it's super easy to set up and change.

If you want to make straight lines in Procreate draw the line, circle, square or triangle(as far as I know that’s it) and hold. It should make a straight line and while holding you can move it to different angles if you want. Another way to do it is using Drawing Assist. If you go to Actions(wrench) then to Canvas you’ll find it. Flip the switch and press Edit drawing guide under it. There you can make grids and do symmetry stuff. Hope this helps someone! 😊

Hey Sam. Thanks for great videos. If you have any guestions reguarding Procreate, feel free to ask. I have been soloing on Procreate since 2012 with all my private and client art. My biggest tip for you in Procreate is to set up the guesture-controls, and espessially Quick-menu to touch! This will replace your hotkeys from PS. You can customise 6 things to put in the Quickmenu, and trigger them by just a flick og a finger in the 6 directions. Ive put 2 of my fav brushes, flip canvas, paint, erase and alpha-lock. This will just make the workflow in Procreate SO much better!
    Cheers, Nikko

Hi Sam, you can import your brushes from Photoshop to Procreate, what you need to do is just save all your brushes with the extension .abr file, send to Ipad, open Procreate and go to brushes > import, and open the .abr file.

and you can also connect your wacom pencil to procreate if you wanna use it instead of the apple one- i think it was prefs> connect third-party stylus

I also have an ipad and im just starting to learn how to use Procreate. I dont have professional experience with these kinds of software, so I watch tutorials on youtube about it. Its pretty easy to use after that and I enjoy drawing. The reference feature is my favorite because its very helpful because i sketch through observation 😅

Don’t use any glass or full protector, i did also at start, but the mat protector will lower the resolution and change a bit colors. I removed all of that and got used to default iPad very quick. I use it professionally as a concept artist every day, never got back to my 27 cintiq since.

Agreed the base brushes are the best of any included-with-software, but for real, Sam, PLEASE try Max Ulichney's brushes sometime. It's not that you NEED other brushes to make good stuff, but his are SO finely tuned and feel so good to use. I'm sensitive to the feeling of abstraction/separation with digital tools and his brushes are my fav. for feeling almost like real media with no mental separation between my intention and the result. Really glad you're enjoying procreate! Thanks for the video!
