    You should make yourself a jig to sharpen that blade in situ. It's far more efficient (and setup friendly) than removing it, and gives a nice cut, that's in relation to the saw itself. Usually, it's a straight, heavy board with the sharpening jig in the middle.

    What kind of glue did you use for the bowl project? I'd like to try this, but I'm sure any old glue would not have strong enough adhesion after cutting it down so thin.
    I'd like to use one like this as a Giant salad bowl gift for the wifey.

  • @ursamajor26
    @ursamajor26 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Ok, perhaps dumb question, but are you not worried about wood movement with that huge bottom solid wood section compared with the segmented rings?

    • @Lower48Woodshop
      @Lower48Woodshop 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I wonder about that too, David. It's probably a really stable flat piece on bottom but on something this big, I would expect horizontal movement from the Segmented pieces. I'm dying to know!

    • @WoodByToth
      @WoodByToth  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah pencil line. 90,000 pieces done this way so far. Stop blacks are small

    • @Lower48Woodshop
      @Lower48Woodshop 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      AHHHHH!
      Do they really come out as perfect as they seem? Is there some sanding to fit that is edited out?
      I'd love to do this if it works well. Stop blocks tend to catch the small parts and send them flying.

    My I suggest to study some pottery and ceramics from history for bowl forms. Consider the rim and how thick it is - how durable it will be to knocks. Consider the decoration (maple inserts) and its placement, will I see it when someone puts something like dried flowers in the bowl.
    Big does have a special effect or presence over a similar smaller piece, but consider where its to be displayed. Can you still see the features you put so much effort into.
    Hopefully I've phrased this to be seen as constructive criticism.
