    UPDATE From The Telegraph published 25.10.23: "Lt Col Jonathan Thompson the King’s popular equerry, has been promoted to become one of the monarch’s most senior aides. Jonny, who often turns heads in his kilt and has achieved something of a cult social media following, has been named a “senior equerry”.
    The new role will be more office-based, meaning that Lt Col Thompson will be seen less in public as he helps organise the King’s private affairs.
    The father-of-one serves with the 5th Battalion Royal Regiment of Scotland.
    The decision to extend his secondment from the Army to enable him to remain with the Royal household is unusual but is considered an indication of how highly valued he has become to Their Majesties. “The King relies on him heavily and he is a vital member of the team,” a royal source said. “This promotion is a great vote of confidence.”
    Lt Col Thompson will begin his new job when a replacement has been found to take on his current duties as equerry - a role often described as “the eyes and ears of the King”.
    Traditionally, the chosen candidate is seconded from the Armed Forces for three years, with each service taking its turn to provide an officer.
    Lt Col Thompson’s predecessor is Major Tom White, a Royal Marines officer and Afghanistan veteran, meaning that if the same pattern is followed, the new appointment will be made from the RAF."
    (Many of us who follow closely suspected this has already happened, as other Equerries have been seen accompanying the King recently whilst Jonny works behind the scenes organising everything). We shall miss you immensely, but look forward to those occasions when we can still see you in public, and wish you all the best in your new role. Safe travels to Kenya next week. Thank you for brightening our days and your service to our King and Country. 🇬🇧🌷

    This is an advancement well and truly earned. Yes, I will miss seeing him at events, but he is a man of service, duty and honor...and I have no doubt that the king is canny enough to allow the Lt. Colonel to be seen by his legion of fans from time to time.

      @@sueharvey6603 King Charles is (and always has been) much more than he seems. I suspect he knows the value (and "star quality") of Lt. Col Thompson, and will use that to the best advantage of the Monarchy and UK. In the meanwhile...God Save the King!

      Well of course you are right! He has done the most wonderful job for the king and our late queen and family for a long time. That measured way of dealing he has is safe and solid for all of us too.A fine example for the young and those joining the services, which we need.The king is a fine statesman who is as sharp as a tack.. He and his equerry will be .magic!

    Well,blind sided by the king! There is so much we would all wish to say to this senior equerry whom we have all taken to our hearts during those emotional times this year. Thank you for being so impossibly handsome, you lifted our hearts when we needed it, for giving us focus and strength, for making the kilt a thing of beauty, and if someone does not tell me why there are two ribbon bows on it, I will go nuts! For being someone from another age and time who has all the princely attributes necessary to aide our king.Being famous is not your bag, but being decent and professional is--watching you at work is exhausting but an honour too!We will all miss you very much but look forward seeing you when we can. Lastly, to your dear and very patient wife,a huge hug.XX

      The bows on his kilt are Green Rosettes, green for the Royal Regiment of Scotland, 2 rosettes are worn by Officers as part of their Kilt uniform, sewn on. It looks very ornate doesn’t it? 💚💚

      On thank you so much! I have only seen him on TV so I am pretty well cross eyed now! Rosettes not bows. I like to know the history of things. Whatever, this man is an absolute joy who has. brought so much hope to this new age. I suppose you don't know his chest measurement??!!!?

      @@sueharvey6603 Ha! I've often wondered myself! I think he needs extra large shirts to cover that broad, manly chest. You are so right though, brought us a tingle of excitement and reassurance in a troubled world, but also such a pleasure to see a manly man, a traditional man, in an historical uniform, representing an historical Regiment in the Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders, the forerunner to Balaklava Company of the Royal Regiment of Scotland who guarded our late Majesty so proudly. I think he's awoken many feelings in alot of us. Haha!

      So glad you said this I thought I was losing it. Just not me at all and I'm the biggest Luddite too! What this lovely man has done for us is have us remember the best of who we are.The words Royal Marines heard for the first time today makes me believe now he could stop a ten ton truck if he has trained there too!Amazing really, but you only have to see him with his men to know they would walk through fire for him too, so we are all at it it seems! Thanks so much for today. A rosette makes much more sense to me now.Stay well.x

      It's probably better for my sanity I don't have to trawl through getty videos after engagements anymore looking for clips of him, I do miss him though. And that uniform. 💔 He certainly left an impression. I was thinking Jonny's core fan base seems to be women of a certain age and gay men. The younger ones go for Boyband Ollie or Rob. Sadly no kilts to be seen at Royal events now, just plenty of Royal Navy uniforms. 😰

    How does the deputy master of the household, anthony johnston burt, know by heart all the names of the people he introduces to the king ? Does he have 20/20 vision and reads their name tags from where he is standing ?

    • @larhumba4233
      @larhumba4233  ปีที่แล้ว

      He writes them on a bit of paper, well the people's names he doesn't know, and learns how to pronounce them. Some people he already knows and can introduce them without looking at his paper. At some events you will see Equerries doing the same thing.

    I am sorry but two things bugged the hell out of me on this video. At about 1:02 Charles turns to address someone and remains half turned while speaking with the gentleman. And he's carrying his glass into a room where it doesn't appear anyone has yet to have refreshments offered. (I only got to 2:14 in the video--maybe I'm wrong.)
    I find both of those incredibly rude. If you are speaking with someone turn to face them. Don't enjoy a beverage when your GUEST--WHO HAS BEEN INVITED TO SHOW YOUR APPRECIATION--is left empty handed.

    • @larhumba4233
      @larhumba4233  ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Ofcourse ALL guests are offered drinks. The King has to talk to literally hundreds of people in a day and his throat gets dry. Those guests were lined up selected to talk to The King personally. Does anyone look unhappy or affronted to you? No! As you say, you didn't even watch the whole video, just looking for non existent sleights to slam the King for. You just make it up as you go along. Normally I delete comments like yours but decided to reply, as some of you in America seem determined to find fault with Charles and ignore the fact he is human.

    • @ABC_DEF
      @ABC_DEF ปีที่แล้ว +7

      The King is talking to a senior army officer as he moves from one room to another. The officer is wearing a gold aiguillette on his right shoulder and so will be an aide-to-camp to the King and will be on duty, not a guest. The King will know him well and probably knows his family too. Why shouldn't he turn and say a few words to him?

      @@ABC_DEF I have no problem with him speaking with someone. IMHO he was speaking with the man long enough that he should have straightened his posture to face the man squarely. To me it feels like he's signaling that he has better things to do. (Akin to someone checking their phone while you are conversing--but not THAT bad.)
      And all the more reason if it is someone on duty and known to the King.
      I'm probably not expressing this as well as I could.

    • @csm92459
      @csm92459 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@larhumba4233 Actually I've been quite impressed by the King--I thought it was going to be near impossible for him to step into the role and not be constantly negatively compared with and/or in his mother's shadow. I think he's done a remarkable job--especially having to deal with the Sussex's criticisms which he can't confront multiplied by the portrayal in The Crown (which I stopped watching after the second season--but I've seen some unflattering clips which I consider grossly unfair as, again, he can't answer them and they are being portrayed as non-fiction.)
      I've also always been a bit forgiving because--no matter what the perks--you're dealing with people--his mother, his eldest son, his grandchildren--who never had a choice that the rest of western civilization take for granted. The ability to decide what to do with your own life.
      The reason I stopped watching the video was because the sound was quite jarring--I have tinnitus and the combination of the two was actually painful. It has happened before--but I don't know why some videos affect me like that.
      The reason I remarked on it was it seemed so out of character.
