- On this video I'm showing how to LS SWAP your 88-98 OBS. There are many ways and different combination on how to do a LS SWAP but at least you will get an idea of what all you need to do. I'm swapping my 98 so thankfully the fuel pressures are good, but I I had to drop my tank anyways to replace all the lines with AN. Your vids have been absolutely Paramount in helping me finish this build. Thank you.

I’m going to buy a 1997 obs from my coworker he owned it since 2000 he’s the 2ed owner I told him I’ll take care of the truck I will ls swap it for the power but and reliability. I will do a stock swap 5.3 from my 2005 sierra which I’ll order a new engine for since it’s a daily
Great vids. I am just starting a swap into my '88. I have a complete '02 tahoe that I plan on using the L59, 4L60 and the posi 3.73 disk brake rearend. I hope I can use the harness from the '02 to make things easier

I am in the final stages of wiring ty so much for the great videos I've watched a few times! And ur parts list was on point! I did end up doing alot more upgrades then I planned which is why I'm not done yet 2 months later lol. I also deleted neutral safety switch cause I have a 93 I have one built in the sterlering column so that worked out cause I have shifter bars vs cable. Again ty!

Great informative video! Love it. I don’t see why everyone says these 95s are hard to Ls swap… seems straight forward. Only question I have is was your truck a v8 or v6? Reason being is I’m looking to Ls swap my 95 one but it’s a v6. Not that I think much is different
thanks brother! Mine was a V8 but for urs, you just need to replace your V6 clam shells to V8 clam shells (the motor mounts) and you should be good

I plan on doing a 6.0 or 6.2 LS swap on my 96 Cheyenne but I'm lucky it's a 5 speed so there's not as much electronics

Nice job and to the point did you have to do any cutting and all that splitting and connecting to your stock harnesses or just plug in those few plugs and grounds that you displayed in your installation videos

Bought a step side 90’s short bed and planning on doing the swap pretty soon, I’m only confused on the wiring which seems like the hardest part of the whole swap, do you have an instagram or something to answer questions? 🤝You give me the confidence to do my swap in my 1996 gmc … But one question what happens with the ECU from the 5.3 engine ? I need to reprogram because they come whit the antithef sistem ?
glad to hear that brother! and I left mine plugged in cuz I didn't wanna risk the chance of something not working right but I heard u can remove it if you do do it once you know it's running and you only have to program the LS computer (remove the vats for it to run)

I wanna say yes to keeping the orginal ECU in my case cuz I was still using some wires from it to work with my LS and I just trimmed the orginal harness, keeping only the things I needed brother and glad the video helped you 🙂👍!

Do these headers work for a 2012 5.3l ls using them on a 1997 obs k1500?
Very very good video one of the best i watched so far only thing i don't get is why you didn't use the trans plug i thought you were using the 4l60 that came in it but maybe i need to watch again
Thanks brother and I used the 4l60 that came with the LS motor not my orginal one. That's why I didn't use the plug.

that I don't know brother because they were different years and the 95 model has a few things ONLY the 95 had, I did not wanna risk trying to find out if I needed spacers or a certain flexplate it was just alot easier to put everything my LS came with.

it came with the truck brother and its been on there since the 90's so I wouldn't know where to get it from lol
Good afternoon man. Do you remember if you connected the white(86)or black(85) wire from the fan(s) relay to the green stand alone wire ?
85 is the one I connected to the green wire that comes from the LS harness brother

Nice build. What alternator did you upgrade to. Im currently havin same issue with fans. Volts when charging are under 13 volts. Also have a link for plug wires you are using.

Thinking about swapping my 90 c1500 why do I need to use my old obs harness can’t I just swap the motors and use a stand alone harness?
u only need to use what u need from it brother if ur wanting ur guages to work n keep all ir grounds
I have a nv 4500 in a 06 yukon with a 5.3 from a 2002 and i had to do all of this and more nothing is the same everything chages from 94 to 96 to 2000 to 04. Everything lights ,wipers,seats,door panels,dash ,foot pedals,back window,abs brakes , steering wheel, mirrors ,cpu ,gauges ,carpet wire harness ac condenser,heater core fuel pump ,gas gauge is backwards full is empty 😅
You happen to know if the harness you used would work and plug into the factory trans on an obs of this year? Just wanna swap the engine and not the transmission.
I wanna say yes but just don't know if the pin out is the same brother

the purple and green wire are from the LS harness. It's the connection that goes to the speed sensor brother

do you mean the red and the white wire that went to the original coil on the TBI engine?

@mikeromero2776 yes the red one will go to your new harness that is labeled ignition (should be red also) and the white will go to your white one from your new harness as well brother

Hey there, about the fuel pump wire off the stand alone harness which pin on the fuel relay off the fuse block did you tap in to after all
with Standalone I did nothing with regarding the fuel pump brother I only messed with the stock fuse box from the truck I just needed a wire that has power when the key is on to power the relay from here on (I did not run power straight to the fuel pump, just the relay)

No the radiator fit just fine brother
So for the fuel pump did you just run a jumper wire from Pink to the green wire? Also the wires from the original engine did you cut them off and tuck them back in the original harness?

I spliced the 2 speed sensor wires from my LS harness into my 2 wires from my orginal speed sensor harness to get the signal readings to go to my gauge as well does that make sense?

i’m thinking about LS swapping my 1990 c1500. i have a 2002 suburban as my donor and i was wondering about the PCM, i’ve heard everywhere else that you have to tune it but unless i missed it i don’t remember you mentioning that. is it not necessary? thanks in advance
@Eli_Sellars you do have to delete the vats, egr, rear 02 sensors, set your rpms correctly, etc so yes it's best to buy computer already tuned or your gonna have to get yours tuned anyway

Mine was already tuned ready when I bought the engine and transmission but I did end up buying the software (hp tuners) to change things I wanted later
you can buy them tuned ready from ebay but just make sure you buy the correct pcm for your engine

How did you make the voltage gauge to work ?
I didn't have to do anything to make that work just make sure all ur grounds are connected and it should work brother
How did u hook up the power line from the injection for fan
I used it to power up my fan relay brother when the key is on.

When it comes to neutral safety wiring did you just plug in the original neutral safety wiring and that was it?
yep it will plug right in the 4L60E
@@SUPSGARAGE I heard some guys say that you have to splice the Ls and factory range plugs together to control engine rpm when going into gear. Did you have any issues like that?
no I didn't have to do that only thing I did spliced down there was the orginal speed sensor wires to the LS harness

Where did you run your wiring harness
this harness is suppose to run through the passenger side but i didn't wanna run it that way so i just had it come back to the driver side and left it there so none of it is going inside the truck

@emtfire20 Glad they help you brother and I only replaced the fuel lines from the intake to the fuel filter. You can replace them to the sending unit with the same lines but I didn't see it was necessary
One more question I’m running an aftermarket intake with 102mm throttle. Do I need a fuel pressure regulator? And do you know how the fuel rail is ran

My fuel gauge goes past the full line when full and goes to 1/4 tank when empty. Have you ever seen this issue before?
@greggalindo6714 if you messed with the fuel pump it's possible you bent the floater brother

Should have pull the bed to get to the fuel pump.
What relay did you use for the fuel pump?
the orginal one is still be used brother I just had to give power from a different wire due to the orginal computer not knowing when the engine is running

you just need to Intergrate the two wires from the LS speed sensor harness to the obs one brother n it will work

Engine and Trans I got for $1,300 but u can find them for alot cheaper mine came with computer already with vats deleted and the guy was able to show it running before he unloaded it from the back of his truck so to me $1,300 was not bad for no risk to take on the engine 😊👍

I was told it had 120,000 miles brother and I replaced every single gasket on the engine lol just to play it safe
@@SUPSGARAGE yup, better safe than sorry. Hahaha. I'm also in the dfw area. And the ones I'm finding are above 170 miles. I'm not sure if I should pull the trigger and just get one of those and replace all the gaskets.

around 4k to 5k brother but u don't have to do it how I did u should be able to make around 2k to 3k just depends what all ur wanting to do

yes I do brother but I recommend upgrading the fans I have now (the link is also below) because the ones it came with does not pull enough air here in Texas lol
