I’d rather see a real video when it doesn’t always work out perfectly cuz that’s reality for all of us at times. You are amazing! Thank you for your videos😊
You are who i wish I could be 😅. Someone who likes to cook. Meanwhile, I was watching listening to you while I threw no yolk noodles, can of cream of chicken, organic chicken broth, can of peas n carrots, vegetable and red pepper seasoning, HEB store bought chopped up rotessiore chicken meat, altogether to make chicken noodle soup. 😅😅😅😅
You are just being real. It shows you are human and haven't we all been there where it may not look the best but is delicious! Keep the real videos coming. God Bless you and your family.
You made that pie crust with absolute love, and it looked absolutely delicious, it doesn’t matter if it needed to be in pieces, you got it fit into the bottom of that pan bit by bit. I can’t wait for your family to enjoy it, love you and love your videos.
Crust is a funny thing. You are like me, I won't let something beat me. I will do a recipe over and over until I get it right so I understand. One thing I like about you is you are o.k. showing not everything comes out perfect every time but you kept going. By the way I love watching your family video's and I love love your kitchen.
Always kind, remember you are cooking with love. Us mom's are often are hardest Critic. All they're going to remember is their mom made it, and it tasted so good. 🎉❤😊🎉🎉
You are who i wish i could be. Someone who loves to cook. Ive been watching this video in the kitchen while I threw together all store bought, no yolk noodles, organic broth, can of cream of chicken, can of peas n carrots, HEB rotisserie chicken, vegetable and red pepper seasoning. To make chicken noodle soup that im eating right now 😂.
Heather, sweetheart, you would not believe the times I’ve had to improvise when it comes to making crust for large recipes! You did exactly what I would have done! And the crazy thing is, those are usually the ones that turn out amazing! 👍♥️
Exactly. You dont know how many times I've pieced together pie crust cause it waznt cold enough or home was too warm. I stopped cooking when my husband passed away but now i rake care of my 82 year old mom and i enjoy cooking and baking with her...😊❤
Thank you for your down to earth vlog. I like your style. I like chunky chicken not shredded. I’m 76 and fairly disabled… COPD etc but started veg gardening last year with raised beds…. I love doing it. Thanks again for your yummy recipe.👏x
Hi Heather, I just wanted to take a moment and tell you how much I enjoyed watching this video. The fact that you showed mistakes and dealt with it was nice and refreshing, really. I can tell you that when you mix butter and shortening together, it seems to do that. My Momma would use butter or crisco but not at the same time. My Aunt uses crisco shortening. Her crusts have always been super flaky and really good. I want to make that chicken pot pie for my grandkids. I have 7 of them 😊 and I know they will really enjoy it. Thank you so much for sharing your life with us. I am looking forward to watching more of your videos. Oh and I agree in regards to the green beans. My gram would plant kentucky Blue Lake pole beans, and they aways turned out delicious canned. I can't wait to see you all in the garden. Bless you and your family.
You worked that out really well. No one is gonna see the bottom. I applaud you for making homemade crust. Your hubby is right if it taste good is all that matters.❤❤❤❤
I absolutely adore you!!!I love that you can laugh about food bloopers because we all have them!! We have this grand picture in our mind of what it should look and taste like and sometimes it just doesn't come together lol Like my husband always says" The stomach does not know ugly " lol ❤❤❤❤
Looks fantastic Mama Bell. I love your dedication to the crust. Totally relatable. Crusts are so strange though. Sometimes u do everything exact and two pies are easy roll and the third is like nope not today. Lol.
It doesnt matter that the pastry is short and you have had to piece it together, it will still taste delicious. Its a huge pan and I don't think many would be able to do it in one. X
I love watching your videos! I think the heat in the kitchen along with the humidity may have effected the texture. But you're an awesome mom and a rockstar! Keep up the great work!
Lol I love how you laugh at the dough haha your one awesome mamma❤ My tip for you is dont use too much flour when rolling it out the flour make the dough dry.
Its a blessing just to cook for your family!..If you mess up its ok!...I Made Gravy yesterday it looked terrible but my step daughter said it was delicious 😋...I say it is what it is!😁.. Sending love from South Carolina!
This the first time seeing you cook. You,are so cool and down to earth. I always fight with my crusts also. I’m 81 years young. So don’t worry be happy. I use. Butter flavored Crisco. Which I keep in the fridge all the time. I’m along with the cold butter. So I do have better luck. I agree with your family. It’s better that it taste better than it looks/
Stellar job! The mishap was just a slice of life. I would rather eat something tasty than to eat something beautiful that's nasty. One thing I do sometimes is freeze the butter and grate it into the dough. I don't use a food processor, though. Determination is often like a diamond. It takes time and patience for perfection. Great video. I'm glad I found your page. I always cooked for a large crowd. It can be challenging yet so rewarding! Your story of foster care and adoption is inspiring.
My paternsl grandmother had one and fried her frybread in it. It comes out best in a cast iron pan. It slso made great friend potatos also biscuits. I miss those days.❤😢😇🙏💕☺️🙏💯
Roll out out on parchment paper, then chill again, and add it to your pan. Maybe do half at a time and fuse it in the pan.I think you were having difficulty because of the size, NOT the receipe . You are a ROCKSTAR!!!
Poor crust is my nemesis... you have given me the courage to try again. I did buy some just in case, though... I've taught many people to make perfect pie crust yet have never been able to make it myself. They say those who can't do it teach. 😉
For every ounce of butter add 1 tablespoon of water and always chill the pastry, it needs to rest so the water can be fully absorbed. If it's to hard when you take it out of the fridge leave it for a couple of minutes and give it a bash with the rolling pint to start it moving. Brush with beaten egg and a little water for a nice golden crust. Tip for cutting strips is to use a pizza cutter. At the end of the day, taste is everything, you nailed it!
Onion in fridge or freezer for 20 -30 minutes should help a bit. It’s pot pie! It’s going to be good no matter what! I notice a difference when I put the butter and Crisco in the freezer for a bit. You still fridge the dough before roll out. If you handle your crust too much it can get tough. Again-it’s pot pie-either way it will be great! It’s made with love. You do amazing everything for a large family. ❤
Or i think the first batch became too dry cause she kept kneading and adding flour then the next batch didnt mix well with the dough and was dry so it crumbled when he rolled out. The next batches she rush it. But it was perfect to eat. Who cares the way it looked. It looked fine to me and looked very good to eat. The apple pie looked great too. Jmo. We forget our family don't care what it looks like, just as long as its delicious..😊 Thats what my husband would say...😊❤
Yeah, your making it real. Most of us have experienced all these issues with crust, etc. Like you say, don’t give up, just redo and it comes out great.😊
When I have my contacts in, onions don’t bother me at all! I just found your channel and am really enjoying watching you cook and getting new ideas thank you
Love your channel. RUSTIC, not perfect & it doesn't have to be perfect. You made it work, a true cook. Honestly, you're great & funny. It's a pleasure ❤😂 watching
I have made a few pies in my 55 cooking years. I've made over a thousand pies , and taught pie making....and I would say too much flour. That is what is making the crust split. And you must flip the crust over while rolling it out. That helps meld the crust (fibers??, or actually gluten)together on both sides. Also using that gorgeous rolling pin to roll the crust onto it will actually help transport the crust to the pan. I hardly ever use butter, I use Crisco ,but walmart brand works just as good. I use vegetable shortning. BUT...my grandma , who taught me in the mid 60's only used the lard she rendered. My recipe is for a 2 crust is... 2/3 cup + 2 rounded tablespoons of shortning. 2 cups AP flour + some for rollong out, and 1 teaspoon of salt. Use pastry cutter, or pulse in food processor to PEA stage. Use ICE water. 4 to 9 tables. Fact... depending on the dryness of the flour, where you live, dry desert, humidity , will govern how much ice water you need. I always start with 4 tablespoons and add more as needed. You want it on the softer side, because as you roll it and flip it over, and add a small amount of bench flour each flip, it is a good time to add more flour if needed. When my top crust is on, and i have pinched the sides with my fingers, I cut a couple of slits or breathing marks in the top, then I brush a small amount of milk on top and then dust with sugar. Could use egg wash or a cinnamon sugar mix. I am going to make a video because everyone wants to see how i do it. Guess i need to start with making a utube channel. I LEARNED A LOT from your chicken pot pie. Steps I've never used. Guess im making it your way this week. THANKS FOR THE GREAT LESSON. A d hubby is 100% correct, what matters is the flavor, and I'm sure, that chicken pot pie you made was the bomb!!!
Congratulations on the "perfect" crust.🥰 Love the idea of combining the mushy & firm apples. Sounds very delicious. Great job on the chicken pot pie. It is one of my favs also. I am sure your family would agree that taste trumps good looks any day.🌹
I am so proud of you! You didn’t give up!! That’s what we do as moms. We try and try again!😊I’ve just started making pie crusts too. I love my food processor as well!! I love your videos because you share your heart and it comes through. God bless!!❤
You are AMAZING. It's nice to see that you're a real human, who can't talk, make a pie crust LOL on camera. I love snap peas 🫛 also, but to be honest, your chicken pot pie looked good and probably tasted even better. OK, I'm hungry now!

You're right. It just doesn't always come out perfect. Even for the best professional chefs.
Yes! Exactly

Right!?!?😅
You are just being real. It shows you are human and haven't we all been there where it may not look the best but is delicious! Keep the real videos coming. God Bless you and your family.

How to make an imperfect crust absolutely perfect😊
Your crust is rustic. That’s what I love about any pie. Beautiful ❤

If I could make that dough I would be so happy! It’s going to be wonderful. Dough intimidates me, but I make killer bread! Good job!
We have all had that happen!! Looks great and delicious

She cooks like I cook. Tried & True & improvising.

Yeah, your making it real. Most of us have experienced all these issues with crust, etc. Like you say, don’t give up, just redo and it comes out great.😊
I really enjoy your videos cuz you’re so down to earth and you are genuine.
When I have my contacts in, onions don’t bother me at all! I just found your channel and am really enjoying watching you cook and getting new ideas thank you
I could make a recipe 10x and it will turn out delightful. Let me make it for something special and everything goes wrong! It looks so good! Yum!
Love your channel. RUSTIC, not perfect & it doesn't have to be perfect. You made it work, a true cook. Honestly, you're great & funny. It's a pleasure ❤😂 watching

The pie crust experiments looked good. One idea to get an oversized pie crust to not fall apart is to drape in over you rolling pin.
Good Monday morning 🤗
Congratulations on the "perfect" crust.🥰 Love the idea of combining the mushy & firm apples. Sounds very delicious. Great job on the chicken pot pie. It is one of my favs also. I am sure your family would agree that taste trumps good looks any day.🌹
I am so proud of you! You didn’t give up!! That’s what we do as moms. We try and try again!😊I’ve just started making pie crusts too. I love my food processor as well!!
I love your videos because you share your heart and it comes through. God bless!!❤
Hi again, the apple pie worked because you worked quickly and didn’t overwork the pastry well done x
Love it, thanks for pressing through and being real!
You are AMAZING. It's nice to see that you're a real human, who can't talk, make a pie crust LOL on camera. I love snap peas 🫛 also, but to be honest, your chicken pot pie looked good and probably tasted even better. OK, I'm hungry now!

I think it looked delicious and very rustic! I really enjoyed watching.
You're an amazing person that is fun, hilarious, can laugh at your mistakes, and enjoy life to the fullest.
You're filling bellies with a good home cooked meal and that's all that matters!
I was told years ago to use lard for the best pie crust you'll ever make. It's all I use now. And, I keep my dough a bit sticky and when I roll it out I add a bit of flour. it just seems to work better for me that way.
Love your video!
Keep up the great work and thanks for keeping it real!
Sending love from north Texas ❤
I think you are such a trooper and u do so great. Your family is blessed to have u:)
Not everything works out the way we want it t. What was nice is watching you be creative in making it work so when that happens with any of us, we can see it's okay and it'll all come together as it should be 👏
