I love so many things about this watch. The vintage look, that there is a 36 mm version, the elegant but at the same time modern look. The green dial version would make a perfect fall watch!
I've been looking at Grand Seiko but I already have a dress watch (Omega DeVille) and a diver (Seamaster 41mm) and this watch is ticking a lot of boxes for me. Casual, unique date complication, clear case back, decent price. Damn. Good thing I don't have a significant other to explain my affliction to.
I just bought the Blue, 40mm Big crown pointer date because of this video. The great video resolution inspired me to purchase this as my first serious watch. It is simply gorgeous and feels great on the wrist.
Of all the watches that have come out in 2018, this one speaks to me: the color of the dial, the shape of the 4, the cathedral hands. I am very much in love with this piece. I am not a movement guy like many watch fans and I have an Aquis with a Sellita movement which I find more than competent. It just works for me. Well done.
I just bought the very same watch. It is amazing! I love the red date pointer, the bezel, the crazy "4" and the red rotor. Oris should keep these features on the Big Crown line...
This a beautiful Pilot watch. It definitely surpasses some of the best German Pilot watches in its category i. e. Sinn especially for the price. Thanks Adrian.
Always saving up your vids, so I can watch them when I have the time to really enjoy them with a cup of coffee. This one was again worth the wait. I think this one goes on the list for my graduation piece. Really lovely
Love Oris. The main problem with Oris though is choosing which watch to buy, they make so many damn nice ones! Anyway, enjoying your videos (even though I can't stand coffee!) and subbed. Keep it up.
I have only appreciated Oris traditionally, but this watch (for me) brings the brand back into my top 5. This color, style, and finish is outstanding. I simply love. I bought an Omega Seamaster back in 1999 and sold it. I have been wanting another mid-high end swiss watch since. Thanks in large part to your review I ordered one of these! Thank you!
Great showcase for a great watch! I wasn't interested in it as well when it came out. But over the time it growed on me and after I sold my first Oris I feel the need for another one. It should be something special and unique. And I think this one would tick the boxes! Thanks again for the great presentation.
This is the most mesmerising watch I have ever seen. Tried it today at a dealer in Melbourne. Great review although IMO everything about it is perfect.
Another excellent video! It’s a really handsome watch and personally, I like the hands. The date function is a good touch of “different”. Quick release bands are definitely the way to go, IMO.
I’m a big fan of this dial, I just wish they would bring back the 38mm version. I like the cathedral hands, since this iteration is more of a dress watch, though it does seem to have field watch roots.
I'm starting to save to buy my first entry-level luxury watch, and I'm definitely getting the Oris Aquis, I don't know why but I identify myself with this brand like no other.
I had the same connection with Oris and my first real luxury watch was an Oris Divers Sixty-Five. I just love the retro look of that watch. Besides that, I also have an Oris Rectangular with a cream dial and roman numerals. Plan on picking up a Big Crown Pointer at some point in the future as well. Love Oris watches.
I love these. Wish they had kept the Cresent shape for the date hand. I also wish they had kept some of the detailed faces of previous ones. Glad they have moved to a screw down crown and a saphire glass. I have an older one but could easily see myself getting one of these.
Had my eye on this since Basel - gorgeous looks. Came very close to going the green face limited edition on a recent trip, but the blue is just so perfect...certainly my next target. I may have made it difficult for myself by 'inadvertently' picking up the Baltic panda dial (limited to 100 pieces so not planned). One more watch can only work for so long with my wife!
I just picked one of these up. It's my first Automatic watch and I really love it. I'd initially begun looking at Oris's Diver 65, but the easily changeable straps where a big selling point, at least to me. I can easily dress this watch up or down by changing the band. I purchased the distressed leather as well as the stainless steel band, and feel pretty well equipped for any situation. It's really comfortable and not too flashy, but can look great with a pair of jeans or a pair of slacks with a quick change of band. Also, it looks a lot different in person than it does in pictures. I thought 40mm might be to big, but i have to agree with @BarkandJack that it looks more natural and comfortable on my wrist than expected. I still hope to get that 65 down the road, but for now am really loving my Pointer Date :) Thanks for the review, Best!
I ordered one 2 months ago, got a call yesterday that it’s in! Picking it up today. I’m going to put it on a brown and blue leather bunt strap! Sound hideous, but I saw one on another video and it looked amazing!
I have a big crown from late 90's. They have changed a little... 36mm SS case is polished including lugs. Hands and red date pointer are the same. Real difference is the watch face which is silvered with a pattern engraved behind numbers 2 - 4 - 6 - 8 - 10 - 12 which are applied and plated like the gold hands. Movement is also based (modified) version of ETA 2824-2. Crown isn't screw down and the domed glass is plexiglass - no scratches and original. Although it does glow in the dark, the 12 markers are tiny. For me, the hands, details on the dial and of course the date pointer is the uniqueness (and charm too).
Can't really fall off with Oris can you? Not a model I'm that familiar with though and like you not really my style either. However I think what put me off was the machining around the bezel. Seems so old fashioned or is that retro? Yet another reason I don't care for Rolex that much is the bezel or crystal surround really. Having said that the colour, face ,numerals (really loving them) date hand, and the main hands all come together to make a complete package. It's just different enough to be interesting without falling into a particular category which been honest is very refreshing. Priced about right too IMHO. Thanks for bringing this one to my attention Adrian. Another cracking review.
I’ve come back around to this brand, as they were recommended to me years ago. This watch in particular has caught my eye. I’m torn between this and the 65, brass bezel.
This watch is... mouth watering. The colour of the case and how it combines so elegantly with the wash out dial. The strap is sexy while I do agree there could be better options. Theres something so classic yet not "old" with that design. I am still debating wether to go for this or a Aquis as my first Swiss watch over 1K.
Big fan of your reviews; learn a lot about this hobby; this watch really reminds me of my SARB017 which I was wearing while watching the review, keep up the good work
Great video Adrian and you are so right about that color of dial. Blue is my favorite color but I think that this shade of blue is sooooooo good I can't put a name to it. Thanks again for the review, Brian.
A good watch at a reasonable price, couldn't quite understand my hesitation to really like this piece until you called out the cathedral hands. Agree they look slightly out of place and would prefer a straight sword hand. Top Job Adrian 👍
No! I've been keeping an eye out for this watch at a good price for about 2 months now, you recommending this is now going to make that an even more difficult prospect....
Just ordered one last week. I loved the hands, and that date display, so I had to get it. And I have always wondered why so many watches have boring bezels. This is more interesting. Anyway, the thing that cought my eye on it was that beautiful blue dial. Quite unique.
I feel the same. I love the watch, but I know that if I actually owned it I would so rarely actually wear it because it just doesn't seem to be 'me'. Really hope to see it in person though. Great video as always Adrian! Cheers, Keith
Love this watch! Nice review. Thanks. I like the hands and the strap. What I would change is the 50m water resistance and the mineral glass on the back. Change it to sapphire or solid and bring the water resistance to 100m and it’s the perfect do all, go anywhere, wear anything one watch collection. Shorts or suit, it looks good.
Hi Adrian, strangely I have both watches on the review today. Differing models the blue 65 and the black big crown which has a differing hand set. I don't wear the BC often enough but when I do I love it as does my wife. PS great and fair review love your channel fella!
Further to last. I appreciate you are being loaned these watches and there is an ever present risk of robbery in London. It's just a shame you can't review these watches on the move, taking advantage of the London streets and natural lighting to show off these pieces in real life scenarios. I only mention it because your walking/talking format is REALLY good. It's obvious you enjoy that format, I think us viewers all enjoy it and together with that London backdrop, you could really make that format your own signature style. ☕still in hand obviously!
This is growing on me. I feel I may have to flip a couple beaters to make room. Hmmmm, Christmas soon. Top videos. Stylishly casual with solid content.
Very smart, very clean, I would probably never take that off if it it was 100m wr, but that's just my preference! Love the dial and the bezel. Good find from Oris! Have a lovely day mate
Cute little watch with its own Hoxton Hipster student retro feel vibe. A great everyday knockabout watch that doesn’t need worrying about too much. With such a narrow bezel it’ll wear as big as a 40mm watch can. Personally I like the hands which add to its charm and character. A watch that is greater than the sum of its parts. Just cool and accessible just what a watch should be. And the blood red dial version. Well who knows...
Great review Adrian. One of those watches I wish I'd owner prior to an explorer. The strap quick release pins have been a feature of the fitbit blaze for the past few years.

I prefer the Diver 65 too! But hey the watch in the beginning of the video at the shop, the Oris Big Crown ProPilot 47mm Altimeter, it would be cool to see a review on that piece.
A very good review. I'm not sure which Oris Big Crown Pointer Date to buy: 80th Anniversary Edition (bronze case and green dial), Movember Edition (black dial) or your model. Have you seen these models?
as an owner of a 18 year old oris big crown commander, I think the new ones look very good...but......oris is cutting corners with their "pilot" dials. they look very cheap(stamped ink) and think they should use more applied markers. this will give the dials more depth.
At first glance I thought the 4th hand was a gmt hand 😍, that's only when I saw that it was going to 31 that I figured out 😀 ! Anyway! Great review as always ! Cheers
I bought this watch loved it initially, but eventually ended up selling it. As you state in your review, it wears incredibly well, and the domed sapphire crystal along with the coined edge bezel is stunning. The pointer date function makes for a very clean field-watch style dial layout. However, the polished case sides, the hands (particularly the rather petite second hand) are just a bit too dressy for my taste and clashes with an otherwise aviation inspired watch.
Love the date indicator - it’s like a countdown to payday.
😂😂😂 nice one

This is how watch enthusiasts should explore and and not Rolex and Seiko All the time. Good work.
Thanks buddy. I do enjoy getting hands on with other watches. There’s plenty of Rolex and seiko content out there already.
Well as you now need £5k to buy a Seiko new release everybody needs to be looking at these cheaper Swiss brands :)
Subtle TGV burn?

I love the limited edition green version: Oris Big Crown D.26 286 HB-RAG

I think what you’re trying to describe the feel of the date hand is it snaps into place. Nice watch!👍
