I'm glad you tried fried carp. We lived on carp and buffalo fish back in the 1950's and 1960"s. After we learned to filet and score the slabs, they were much better to eat. I'm thinking my Dad scored the pieces much closer together, maybe every 1/8 inch apart. The bones cooked better and basicly disappeared. Might try that sometimes. Great teaching video as usual.
Wow, you made me hungry. May I suggest trying a dish called masgouf. It is butterflied carp split from the head and back and grilled near a wooden fire. It will really bring out the flavors when roasted slowley.
My grandmother Ladd would have folks in Atchison KS bring her the carp they had caught so she could cook it for them. She would score them and cook them in hot grease and all the small bones would just cook up. Making it a much better eating fish.
I have caught plenty of carp over the years but never have eaten them. It's something I want to try myself. Despite that, these fish put up one helluva fight.

I just discovered your channel 2 weeks ago. I love everything about it. I watch a lot of these catch and cook shows and you’re my current favorite. I loved the red mushroom episode. I’ve eaten many but I’ve been scared off in recent years. You have me on the fence now. I love them. I think that is very similar to morales and much easier to find.
Scale in an old washtub. Cover the fish with about 3-4 inches of water. Scale come off but the water keeps the from flying all around the place. If you use fish emulsion in your garden dig a small trench (about the same effort as cleaning up crashlanded flying scales) and pour the scales into the trench. (Siphon off some of the water with a short hose-makes moving the tub easeir) OR hook up your big boiling pot, score the skin of the fish and dip the fish into the water like you were gonna pluck it like a chicken (don't try to cook the skin off just blanch it like a tomato or peach skin). Skin and scales will peel off easily. Deep fry full portion sized pieces. that way you don't create multiple smaller pieces of bone like cutting to bite size. I usually discard the dark and meat below the the dark because of fat. Carp is very good table fare. That said I have never eaten carp below 7 pounds.
I like to catch 15-20 pound carp from the local lake..filet them on spot,sashimi it..and eat with my friends..probably has parasites but we drink 75%-80% moonshine with it,so it kills everything
For Y bones. Or any type of fish bones. Just keep a plate of buttered white bread on the table. Anyone swallos a bone. Simply take a bite of bread and swallow. The bread will take the bone with it. ( White bread is more gummy and sticky onece chewed and swallowed. So it's a better bread for this specific purpose. But wheat bread can work as well as hush puppies. This was the original purpose of having hush puppies with fish.
In Asia as well, particularly in southern china carps are farm fishes. In China there are 4 big farm fishes: big head carp, silver carp, grass carp and black carp. They are a lot cheaper than other farmed sea fishes and thus are eaten as a staple.

I just found your channel, so excuse me if you've done this but... you should try taking some carp, scale and fillet like you did, then brine in a salt/ brown sugar solution overnight, then smoke it :) Once it is done, put in a big bowl and break up with a fork, removing any bones and skin as you go.. shred into small pieces and mix with cream cheese and spread on a bagel, just like Lox...
I’m with you I saw that TH-cam video too and with as much season as they put put on it, you probably could batter fry a turd and eat it and not know it….lol
I've seen that video he was talking about with all the seasonings. He was NOT stretching the truth one bit! That guy put heaping spoonsful of 10 or 12 different spices and stewed it up in a pan..
It shouldn't be that surprising that it's a great fish to eat if you know it's history. Back around 1877 the United States imported thousands of common carp as a food fish. Mainly because of the hundreds of thousands of European immigrants who complained to the government about the lack of carp in U.S. waters. We have Buffalo fish which can live over a hundred years. But common carp are a totally different species. There is no such thing as a Buffalo Carp. Anyway, carp in Europe was, and still is in some countries, a celebration fish. For every holiday or special occasions. Carp was the centerpiece of the celebration Meal. It's like how we think about whole Turkey. It's a fascinating story. Just Google the history of the common carp here in the United States. You'll be surprised.
Been eating carp for over 50 yrs. Clean good, cut of the fins', toss it in a pressure cooker cook until done.........Fish patties...best eating fish in the world; trash fish my asprin bottle.

As far as i know its the immage of poor mans food that got the Carp its trash fish immage. But the romans transported them alive over thousends of miles over land just to eat them. ( They are not native all over europe they got brought to western europe from the ukraine area )
There is a hand cranked maschine you can use to up the bones even more and some people season it with lemonjuice andvput it in the fridge to destroy the bones even more.

Started bleeding by cutting the gills a couple of years ago. Makes a huge difference, even on pan fish!
Generational knowledge and love passed down from grandaddy will always be remembered. Every time my grandson says grandaddy my heart swells.

I am the ninth child in my. Family that grew up near the Neosho River in Kansas. We 17:51 ate a lot of carp as a children. Good eats!

Good size carp. Fillet, batter and deep fry is one way oriental people cook them. I think it’s a flaky white meat.👍👍👍🌶️🌶️

In Azerbaijan and other countries around that area.. They raise and eat carp as a staple in thier diet

Basically you’re eating a large goldfish.
You can boil it, bake it, fry it, saute it, or you can try to feed to a dog or cat, but they will get angry and attack you.

Yes. I like to put them in milk. It seems to make breading cling better.
