As a Brit now living in the USA, I can attest to the fact that UK insurance is just insane! In the US you can also group the insurance, so your kids cars are covered by your policy and get the benefits of your overall insurance - and they just pay me back. Finally, it means all family members are insured for all cars. So, my 18 year-old daughter (who passed her test 4 weeks ago) is insured to drive my Aston Martin Vantage, My wife’s Mercedes GLC-43 AMG, my sons WRX, Golf-GTI. And that was an extra $300.96! Can you imagine in the UK! ZERO change she would be able to get insured for any of those cars having just passed her test…
Why can’t we have a policy where you only pay a premium for the most expensive car in your fleet? If the policy only covers one person to drive, that one person can only drive one car at a time. Why should we then have a policy for each individual car? Maybe for damage or fire. Makes more sense in my mind but maybe I’m missing something.

Only differences between a thief and an insurance guy is that the insurance guy doesn't feel the need to cover their face and doesn't need a crowbar steal your sh#t. Sixty years without a claim and still paying premiums off set under 25 drivers of fast hatches. The number one statistic that insurance companies use is that good drivers with no claims don't count.
Risk isn't just about the probability of making a claim, it's the potential cost of the claim. E.g. a bump that cracks the cofango would be a much larger cost to replace than a bumper on a 675LT... Generally.
Probably cheaper to have the legal minimum Third Party Insurance and have separate Legal Assistance Insurance as an add on your Home policy so if it gets smashed up, but isn’t your fault, you can call on your Legal Insurance to claim from the other side. Insurance is a con: they so everything to avoid paying out.
Hey Tim I had been watching for quite a long time now. It is quite hectic and difficult job to manage a car collection like this. But you are nailing it bro hope you continue to do the same in upcoming time. CHEERSSSS
Actually insurance is a total scam.. Here, in Hungary they check everything (age, color of the car, age of the owner etc.) Few years ago my friend got his first car. It was a Lexus Ct200h, 7 years old, 170k km. He was 22 years old and the insurance was 900€ a year. He sold the car to his brother, who was 32 and it came out 170€. It's simply not normal...
if your insurance company only uses statistics to work out your risk, they are pretty average, If they will consider you a higher risk driving a lower powered cheaper Lambo than when driving your far higher powered more expensive SF90, then they need their heads read. Have you shopped around for insurance or just stick to the same broker for the sake of it?
I think the STO should definitely be a permanent Shmeemobile, especially since it's a V10. Me personally, I would change the yellow highlights to a yellow pin-stripe around the edges with 'STO' written on the ends of the wings. Something to experiment with.
Great Info. Thanks Shmee. Just a fun fact, in 2013 I owned a Honda Accord and Honda Main Dealer Service was asking for £650 for the annual service 😅. And I used to do it with £150 at a very good garage. Even nowadays Audi charges for an A8 £300 or something. Honda, joke cars, joke service. Anyway been a long time since then, very soon I am picking up my first Ferrari, an 812 Superfast.
How is a Honda service that much? A8 costs more now, not even an A5 can be serviced for that little now, usually £370 or so without pollen filter (£60+) for major service with inspection 20k mile intervals. That’s as of 4 years or so now as Audi hiked prices, not the dealer network.
@@Horizon301. I am not joking at all. I remember calling them, it was absolute joke. Of course you can take an accord to anyone and they’ll sort it out. Mentioning A5, I had A5 and A8 both together for years, great cars, not expensive to run. I like the A8 a lot, low key and modest, super comfortable, can’t part ways with it.
@@officialmafeo yeah, even a VW or seat is like £200 or so haha. Audi try to rob you also unless you negotiate but only by £100, not anything like that. Dealership are becoming like those in the US sadly. I love the A5 also, for me the 7 series is the best in that class. Not a fan of what is happening to VAG with quality
Good grief. I reluctantly gave up car ownership and driving when my insurance rose to £160 per year [one-hundred and sixty per year]. I just ride a teenaged £30 [thirty quid] bike these days. I miss driving. I miss it a lot. I was a rally driver of sorts (only amateur) back in the Group-B era; drove in Wales and Yorkshire quite a bit, plus Finland once, and I completed the 5-day Safari [Kenya] twice. Happy days... Some advice to younger peeps: don't just think about doing stuff; don't just talk about it; DO IT NOW. Now, before life throws a bl**dy great big spanner in the works and you find yourself coping with things you'd rather not and without any time to make your dreams come true. For pity's sake, DO IT NOW (like Tim's doing and like I did!😁). And then, when you're otherwise engaged with... 'life's little inconveniences', you'll have memories to look back on, and no regrets. So don't just talk about your plans, make them happen while you can. Meanwhile, back in the north of England, my crummy old bike costs nothing to own and run, which is a price I can just about afford these days...🤭
Anyone else not that surprised by the insurance cost? I was thinking £8k plus. Lambos aren’t usually bought by older more mature men like a Porsche or Ferrari are.
This video made my head hurt, Tim not happy with 6k insurance on an STO. I pay 2.5k for a diesel A class 😭 Insurance companies really do take the p*ss. My insurance premium increased by 20% this year because an old lady lightly bumped into me (Barely noticeable) I didn’t even claim through my insurance or hers! i just notified them, not fair for young drivers
My fully comp on my Car at £245 😂ok a few years on Tim and it’s not a Lamborghini but it means the world to me if anything should happen but £6k 😁 At the very least I feel a bit better about my renewal now. But a few years back I was on a driving holiday with friends and one of the group was driving a MINI Cooper GP he was only 18 or 19 and was paying £3.5k for insurance. I almost spit out my Coffee when he told me.
Those are dreadful numbers but it’s even worse here in South Africa🇿🇦. Someone who’s under 30-years-old here, will pay the equivalent of £6000 a year to insure something like a BMW M4, let alone a Lamborghini or Ferrari…
The insurance cost you quoted for the STO was an eye opener.. my EVO rwd was £2.5k but I live north of the border in a rural area. However I was told that it was still an impressively low quote by comparison as Huracan’s tend to command in an insurance premium of around 4k. Could be a load of rubbish of course..

I think you should put some decals on the STO to make the spec more race orientated
Hey Tim I had been watching for quite a long time now. It is quite hectic and difficult job to manage a car collection like this. But you are nailing it bro hope you continue to do the same in upcoming time.
CHEERSSSS
When manufacturers see their sales numbers decline , they will quickly start making proper cars again.
It's usually age and area that affect cost, usually anyone under 25 or closer to the city raises prices at least in the US
I just got a motorcycle and I was originally quoted $10478 a year, I got it lowered to 2800 by taking a driving course
Now this is just funny, over here in colombia to insure a 911 992 turbo s is about 15,000 usd a year
Just my personal 2015 M235i is about 1,500usd a year just for insurance
if your insurance company only uses statistics to work out your risk, they are pretty average, If they will consider you a higher risk driving a lower powered cheaper Lambo than when driving your far higher powered more expensive SF90, then they need their heads read. Have you shopped around for insurance or just stick to the same broker for the sake of it?
You don’t have to tell your insurance everything especially a tune or anything shouldn’t really make a difference!
U have the coolest car collection ever my dream car is the first gt
Nobody has as good as cliff hangers, due to commercials, as Shmee. Lol.
How was it adding other members of the team onto the insurance? Did it affect the premium much?
If you plan to keep a car forever would depreciation even matter at that point since you’re never gonna sell it?
Gotta keep track of your assets/finances if you intend to keep super cars forever!
Love the STO! Love the cost-breakdown videos as well shmee
WOW very interesting episode.I bought my ticket for BOTB so fingers crossed I hope I meet you Tim & Christian 🤞👍
thanks for sharing the upkeep on these types of cars
That’s the cost of owning high end Supercars Tim. Expensive to repair especially you track them. Tax right off 🤔😊
Anyone else not that surprised by the insurance cost? I was thinking £8k plus. Lambos aren’t usually bought by older more mature men like a Porsche or Ferrari are.
Cheers for the video mate 😎 👌
CRIKEY! SIX GRAND! I need to sit down
This video made my head hurt, Tim not happy with 6k insurance on an STO. I pay 2.5k for a diesel A class 😭
Insurance companies really do take the p*ss.
Tim should live in the U.S, for many reasons!
Sounds about right! I'm near London so that never helps, which seems silly because I'm totally in the countryside. You did well though, impressive price
Thanks for the video, thought I was paying a lot for five cars including three Ferrari's and three motorcycles just under £3000.00.
