My father used to talk about how he had bought a rusty Argentine Colt 1911 for $50 privately back in his early years. Unfortunately it had been stolen a long time ago. I never got to use it. He had both sanded and reblued it. He had put a lot of time and work into it. According to him it shot great. I inherited all of my father's firearms after my dad had passed in August of 2020 from a year long battle with cancer. May my father rest in peace!

Was it reported stolen? If not and you come across the s#, report it. They go on a nationwide database and are never removed. If it ever goes through a pawn shop or dealer, it will go through the police station and they will run it through the database. Maybe one day you'll get it back.

The first Colt adopted by Argentina was the 1911; not the 1911A1. They designated it the Modelo 1916. When in the mid-1920's, they approached Colt to purchase more of the 1911 Modelo 1916, Colt informed them that they no longer made the 1911. However, Colt offered them the 1911A1 and Argentina accepted it, receiving 10,000 commercial models in 1927 and 1928. When Argentina manufactured their own 1927 pistols after WW2 on Colt machinery, they turned out a product as good as anything made in Hartford. The quality of the 1927 is superb. The Argentines throated their barrels which improved reliability and those I've shot will feed round nose, hollow points and semi-wadcutters without a problem.

When I was in High School over 50 years ago, one of my friends had one of these. The recoil spring was so worn that with the hammer cocked and taking a normal grip on the pisto, you could cycle the slide all the way to slide lock just by quickly making a whiplash motion. We never got a chance to shoot it, he traded it off before we could replace the spring.

    • @smokingcrab2290

That's one worn out spring. You'd have to put mad rounds through a gun to wear the spring out that bad.

I had one! Haha. Argentine Colt 1911. It was worked into a match pistol before I got it. Novak rear sights. Raised front sight. Used it for match shooting mostly. I think I had eight or ten USGI mags with bumper base plates. I liked it just as much as my first pistol that was a Thompson Auto Ordnance 1911A1 that I had to work into a good reliable and accurate bowling pin pistol. Thanks for sharing, Don.

In Canada loads of people would take the NP28’s and build competition guns with them. There was a small cottage industry of people “building” race guns out of them including removing all markings, (not the serial number of course), accurizing them and “flattening” their slides and reblueing or parkerizing them. Crazy bridge mounts with See More red dots and compensators. Nearly as good as an STI 2011 race gun but half the price!

I have one of the 10,000 that were made by Colt before local manufacturing was set up in Argentina. It has the Ejercito Argentino markings on the right side of the slide, but the left side has Colt factory markings with the patent dates instead of the DGFM-FMAP markings. My serial number is towards the end of the manufacturing run of 10,000.

2 argentinean classics of the old military industry which is now totally non existant. One interesting difference between the BM and the Sistema is that although the trigger in the BM looks like a regular 1911 trigger it does not move in a straight direction like the 1911 does. It actually pivots from a pin located on the top of the trigger. It moves like a double action trigger would.

Carried some version of the 1911 in the military police during the mid 1980's. The pistols in our company were made by several different companies. Colt, Springfield, ummm Ithaca maybe, and Singer Sewing Company? We served in Central America so our arsenal may have not been typical of what was carried in Europe or State side. I think Berretas were already being issued in the U. S. before I got out in 1986.

Accurizing, trigger job, and replacement with adjustable sights that looked decidedly like what I’ve seen on post war high power pistols. 15:30 - you do know this is what the magazine is designed for, right? The front tab is for holding in the recoil spring plug.
17:12 - before you do this, you should examine the ejector for burrs, dents, or bends. Steel case ammo tends to beat them up and you begin having ejection problems (stovepiping) so while it is apart, it is best to check.
    18:35 - check your safety
The Ballester Molina was a cheaper version as the Colt Sistema was a licensed product and Argentina wanted a cheaper version so as to reduce the budget. As such, it wasn't authorized by Colt. It included the following differences: pivot trigger instead of sliding, no grip safety, different hammer, serrations on slide (visual difference), magazine release button threads into keeper on right side rather than having a screw from the right side, there is only one notch for the slide stop, and the grip screws are located higher on the left top screw. I can't imagine how these differences would have lowered the price enough to have made it worth the changes. It would have been interesting to see a direct comparison between your Sistema, the BM, and a '40s/'50s Colt.

1911 collecting has become an addiction for me. I also love shooting them and occasionally carry one in 9mm and one in 45. A Colt 1911A1 mfg in 1943 I have seems to be my most accurate piece! For most concealed carry I pack the Glock for the capacity.

On the Ballester Molina they probably figered the grip safety was needed as Browning did not put it on the HP. What i have learned is that France had JMB design it that way. Just as the military asked for a thumb safety on the 1911.

My uncle had one of these. I remember shooting it in the early 1970s. His had black plastic grips. He bought it because he was cheap and these were quite a bit cheaper than the new Colt series 70s that were running about $150 bucks retail back then.

Yes, there are some brands of Argentine weapons that are good but others bad, here in South America they prefer Brazilian weapons to Argentine ones (eg Sig)

I noticed that I've seen these guns in movies but they use blacks but still makes a loud noise and the bullet does come out if you watch The A-Team they use this gun sometimes I also saw this gun in Adam 12 but they didn't shoot it in Adam 12

If you use the international system of counting instead of the USA system, this pistol is 70 years old, not 60.

I got mine off egunner for cheap. Tried to use my c&r but they don’t accept them for some reason. Daily concealed carry it in an m3 shoulder holster and couldn’t be happier.

That's not the function test I was trained with in the military. A proper post-assembly function test involves testing both safeties and the reset of the trigger to ensure proper assembly. IMHO this should be done after a basic field strip as well as a full tear-down.
More video channels should stress this as I have found too few shooters know how to do a full function test on their own firearms.
