i’m a medical student and i gotta say, these videos are pure gold, i watch them to give me a brief summary of what we just saw, and I was seriously impressed by how much detail there is in these. Thanks Hank
THANK YOU HANK AND CRASHCOURSE TEAM FOR EVERYTHING YOU DO FOR US STRUGGLING STUDENTS. YOU HELPED ME UNDERSTAND 4 LECTURES WORTH OF INFORMATION IN JUST 20 MINUTES (I watched 2 crashcourse videos on muscles) I AM FOREVER GRATEFUL 😭😭😭😭🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
When my science teacher explains it she is so serious and she doesn't make it fun but he makes it easy and fun for me to learn it and for me to actually pay attention because science is my favorite subject.
Hello CrashCorse! A friend of mine recently recommended your channel since I teach anatomy and physiology labs and he felt your videos might be beneficial to my students. I must admit, I'm impressed. I was expecting grossly over-simplified explanations with borderline inaccurate information which would be misleading and/or confusing, however your presentations are simple, accurate, and engaging. I really like what you all have done! During my labs I like to imagine that I have the energy and charisma that Hank does, but in reality I probably more closely resemble Ben Stein from Ferris Bueller's Day Off... Anyway, I digress. Minus a few tidbits here and there, your videos touch on much of the information I present prior to carrying out lab exercises. I have enjoyed your videos and would like to post links to some of your content as supplemental material for my students. If this is possible let me know. Thanks!
vrstovsek Yay :D good for you, i love hank to. And anyone else bent on improving humanity just because for that matter... I dig hanks energy bro, i dig it.
"The stapedius in your middle ear, which I've been doing my best to workout lately, but I just can't get any tone." C'mon Hank, you're better than this, how could you miss that pun.
I just a read a chapter in my A&P book and immediately discovered this channel. This video helped me understand bits and pieces of information that I was struggling with. Thanks!
Ideas for another video: Why do muscles get stronger with repeated use? How do hormones affect muscle development? How does adrenaline affect your ability to contract a muscle against greater tension or with less rest? What happens when you pull/tear a muscle?
These videos are very well done. The amount of information presented in such a short amount of time would normally be overwhelming. The approach used works very well.
I want to thank all of you on Scishow and Scishow Crash Course for helping me score 12 (A) in my biology exam last week. A lot of your videos have been very helpful to me. I want you to know, that I think you are doing a great job :). Thanks a lot!
Muscle contraction distance (duration) is frequency modulated by calcium released by your synapse, and variable contraction forces are generated by segmented groups of muscles that vary in amount of fibers and therefore create additive or stabilizing forces.
I became addicted to you hank i can't sleep without watching one of your videos your explanation is very easy and clear i wish i had a teacher so fun like you
Awesome video Hank! This was some really usefull information for my upcoming biology exam. I liked the comedy in there aswell, you guys really make learning fun! :D big thanks to the whole crash course crew :)
There is a refractory period after the contraction period, but before the relaxation period. After a twitch this is the brief 1-2 ms period needed to restore the resting potential. During this time, The sarcolemma is repolarizing and will not respond to a new stimulus. It may respond to the first twitch but not the second.
Huh. 2 years of comparitive anatomy study for Vet, and no one managed to explain insertion/origin points to me so simply... WHY DID NO ONE PUT IT LIKE THIS?? IT WOULD HAVE SAVED SO MUCH FREAKING OUT! (And wrote learning, cause that ended up being how most of us got through the insertion/origin points of muscles...)
Thank you so much! This was just what I needed. I was SOOO curious what happens when I have muscle twitches... and what was happening inside my muscle when my twitch happened
Have you ever thought of doing a PE crash course? I don't know exactly how it would work or how necessary it is. But, this video made me think about it.
When will you guys be starting on the topic of philosophy? I know you touched on the matter briefly in your videos on psychology, but I'm interested to learn more on the subject. Thank you for the educational entertainment guys. :)
4ever Moh The little guys on the desk? Some of the attachments are springy, so they move when the desk/Hank moves. They also change every few episodes because we occasionally have to take all the props down for other things and then Hank gets to amuse himself by rebuilding them. -Nicole
CrashCourse I knew the reason it was shaking. but please MAKE IT STOP!!! :'( it was really annoying! I had to go check another couple of videos to see if it was always like this (it was not)
It's interesting how muscle fibers are sometimes stimulated by a nerve ( which are very tiny )that can cause a muscle in your body to twitch and you feel it sometimes.
Starting watching yesterday!! best science videos ever! I am able retain so much information because I am actually learning. I have already recommended/sent link of this channel to people.
I think I read somewhere that the muscle fatigue is more so caused by the accumulation of metabolites than the depletion of ATP; that studies showed that the ATP supply is relatively constant?
your eyelids have different muscles than the one you use to move your eyes. The orbicularis occuli closes&opens your eyes, while there are six other muscles that move your eyes. But closing is relaxing.
@@greennitricoxide2706 Pretty sure the relaxed state for them is open; just look at dead bodies. We tend to assume the opposite because we close our eyes while sleeping, but we do that to decrease sensory stimulation.
@@williamlowry8809 Actually, like said in the video, muscles tend to flex instead of push. Closing your eyelids would be more of a pushing action since you can't really have an origin where your eye lashes are (skeletal muscles need bones to connect to). Opening your eyelids would be the pulling action, so the closing action would be relaxing them. Open eyes after death are typically dependent on sudden deaths and a shut down of nerve impulses, but deaths in hospitals or during sleep result in closed eyes after death. Dead bodies don't always reflect a natural and relaxed state.
Gurinderpreet Singh your obicularis oculi closes the eye, skeletal muscle doesn’t have to attach to bone. It can attach to ligaments, skin, or other muscles. The obicularis oculi is a sphincter which almost always closes an aperture like the eye
I REALLY do not know how I'd get through nursing school without you guys thank you!!!!

CrashCourse Fitness with Claire?
That would be fun! Like the science behind muscle growth and fat loss? I am interested!

I'm in human anatomy right now. And man. Because of you. I changed my grade from a D to a B+ bro YOU ARE THE MAN!!!!!
That shaking molecule is bothering the hell out of me.
RogerRoids thanks 😩😩
Haha ikr! 😂😂
too much inestabillity in the tambe I guess...oh I mean in the number of elecrones
i think he's cute
(͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
I use these videos to preview and then review each subject. They are so incredibly helpful!
I love this guy! He just puts smile on my face :)
Judging by your "house" picture, your face doesn't smile very often lol
vrstovsek Gregory House...
vrstovsek Yay :D good for you, i love hank to. And anyone else bent on improving humanity just because for that matter... I dig hanks energy bro, i dig it.
I love that 'smile' on your face
shouldn't you be calling him an idiot? lol
"how can Claire gently pet this can at one moment and then quickly crush a corgi in another?"
hol up
That'd wake the people up haha
"The stapedius in your middle ear, which I've been doing my best to workout lately, but I just can't get any tone."

Granted he said definition not tone.
World of No Borders deafinition
😂
@@spaulding304 He was suggesting that the writers said tone instead of definition.
I seriously think he may of said said definition out of empathy for his viewers. Because definitions fly by on this show. That may of been the joke.
Shoutout to Claire and the corgi! Thank you for helping us all learn!
I just binged all the videos in this series to review for my exam today
Bernardo Guerrero Doing the same now lol. How’d you do?
@@88and6 LMAO me too!
I have my exam tomorrow

this episode made my brain blow up and me cry
Thanks CC, so fascinating! Would love to see your explanation on how a muscle gets stronger and bigger.
Your videos just make things very clear and even more easy without confusing the audience..
These videos are very well done. The amount of information presented in such a short amount of time would normally be overwhelming. The approach used works very well.
your videos are amazing ! you're like THE best teacher ever !
two people in one video?
im feeling uncomfortable.....
😂😂
Yay Claire! What a lovely and very appropriate surprise it is to see you on an episode about muscles! :)

big thanks to the whole crash course crew :)
This show needs more Abby!
Keep doing what you're doing Hank! I genuinely enjoy what you teach and the way you teach it! :)

Brilliant series. Keep them coming please, Hank.
Thank you Claire Grosvenor for being a great demonstration :)
These videos are great. Not sure who does your videos but I am a graphic designer and they are well put together. Great work!
You should cover a whole video on slow twitch and slow twitch and size of it
There is a refractory period after the contraction period, but before the relaxation period. After a twitch this is the brief 1-2 ms period needed to restore the resting potential. During this time, The sarcolemma is repolarizing and will not respond to a new stimulus. It may respond to the first twitch but not the second.
I would love to see you do a video on how muscles build themselves up. and how that translate to more power later on
Yay Claire Grosvenor! Been waiting for this. So glad you can put your physique to work for education! Looked like fun.
