    Hey guys, if you did want to have your makeup press more firmly (to have less kick up when you are using the product) you might want to play around with adding the binding fluid in layers (e.g. add the product in a third at a time and spray it in-between the the layers as well as on the top), so the binding agent is throughout the whole pan of product. We didn't do this because we were following the exact instructions to see if the kit works on face value. If you do add in more binding agent it will likely make the product a lot more wet and won't be useable straight after pressing. xo BN

    Oooh, come THROUGH product engineering!! All the components appeared to fit together perfectly! I was really surprised at that initial reveal after pressing the highlighter - I thought there was no way that was enough liquid product to bind the powder together. I am concerned about traveling with those softly pressed powders, but otherwise... Well done, Fixy! I appreciated your very objective assessment of whom this kit would benefit. Unfortunately the design does pretty much cater to only a very niche market. Especially since it's difficult to clean between uses/colors.

    I use a squirt of the binding liquid when the pan is half full of ground up makeup, then fill up the rest of the pan, do the necessary squirts and then press them. They bind just as well as they came from the factory, and they aren’t more delicate than they used to be! I also fill my sink with water and add baby oil to the water.... then I just dunk the press into the the water and run a tooth brush through it all real quick and then dry it off and move on to the next broken item!

    @fibienn250 6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    Thanks, that was very interesting. That grinding tool looks like it would be problematic with long nails though. If it was something I wanted to use I’d probably make a handle by glueing a shank to it and then covering it with air dried clay. I’d also probably use the grinder and then just mix with rubbing alcohol before pressing. That way I could even press by hand into the original pan if I wanted.

    The whole system is a good idea but seems fairly complicated... When my bronzer broke I just used your method of mixing it in a bowl with alcohol and pressing it in its pan and it worked great! Also even the big pan size seems small even for the blush you used. It is a great idea though

    • @BEAUTYNEWS
      @BEAUTYNEWS  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is fairly complicated looking at it, but breaking it down it is just a fool proof way of pressing makeup normally. Break it up, put it in a pan and press it. The main difference is that the binding agent is added after putting it in the pan instead of before :)

    If you wanted to repress into an original palette or pan you still have a very helpful grinder, which is the step I'm always frustrated by when I fix/mix powder products. But I know this review was for the kit as a whole.

    Do you think it would be less soft if you put in part of the product, sprayed the solution in 1-2 times, finished filling the pan & then spraying the recommended amount on top? Or, after pressing w/your hands, what if you then weigh it down with a stack of books or some cast iron cookware? If I break something I really love, my 1st thought isn’t, “Press it now so I can use it immediately”!! It’s more, “Well Shit! I have to clean lean up my mess & set it aside to fix when I have the time”. We aren’t robots who exert a totally uniform pressure based on a computer program, so wouldn’t using something heavy that gives pretty even pressure for maybe 5-7minutes make it more stable? I totally agree with you girls about all the other pan sizes! SO MANY companies are using all different size pans, like UD, & Too Faced; they use all types of irregularly shaped pans! I don’t think any system besides good old pressing will work in some situations. I would TOTALLY use this to make my own FrankenColors & plar w/duo/tri-chromes!! Much Love, hope Spring is starting to show up for you! 🤗💜🤗

      Spraying the same quantity in 2 times isn't gonna make a difference, as the alcohol soaks through anyway. The amount of pressure likely isn't gonna make a difference either, it probably depends on the spray alone.

    I feel it would be good for someone who's interested in making their own cosmetics rather than fixing them for the price tag I couldn't justify getting it for a broken eyeshadow or two. However I have tried to make my own eyeshadows using a kit from tkb trading (which you should totally review) well I didn't get the kit I picked up stuff I thought would work because I couldn't afford the kit. One thing I did to save money was try to make a mortor and pestle out of poloymer clay. Well that sucked for grinding the eyshadowe if I was to do it again I would pick up this product.

    I wouldn't buy this, because I'm pretty confident going the isopropyl/mixing/hand pressing route (never had a problem waiting for it to dry, mostly because I have far too much other makeup to use instead while it dries). However, it does inspire me to get one of those old fashioned tea strainers that look like a tiny little sieve just for grinding everything up smoothly before I press it. The ground up powder looks so smooth and that's really appealing to me.

    • @BEAUTYNEWS
      @BEAUTYNEWS  6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Yeah I agree! If you are a confident makeup re-presser then the part of this kit that is most interesting is the grinder. You could very easily dupe it with a strainer :)

    I have never heard of this, alcohol has never done be wrong.. but my inner Franken-makeup soul kinda needs it. That grinder / sifter would make it a lot easier once a few shades get involved. Is the smallest pan a typical, standard MAC eyeshadow sized pan / hole? It looks a tad bigger.. it's really cool they even send the empty palette with some pans, though, to get you going.

    Franken-makeup is a video series waiting to happen! I really love when y'all get creative during Makeup Breakup videos, so I'd be so stoked to see some more dedicated ideas with mixing different types of makeup.. Especially after the breakup video debunking those color correcting things that all mixed together to be a shimmery grey. To use some Aussie terms, since I'm southern white American nonsense: I'd be so keen to see that

    In terms of cleaning the Fixy components, I am wondering how it would do in the dishwasher. I think the part with the grate would do very well in the D/W and the pressing component as well. Just a thought!

    You guys should play around with the binding solution and how firmly you press products.

    I like the idea of this but like Kat said I don’t like the fact you can’t press the product back into the original pan. & on occasion I’m sure it would be cheaper to buy the original product anyway. But some sort of universal press to where you could press product back into the original pan would be a great idea!

    What if you sprayed the fixy spray before you put it in the presser so it gets all of it instead of just the top layer that may help it press firmer.

    @13:03 you'd think the ppl who designed this would have noted and improved on those issues when they tested this product. hopefully they make improvements for future versions.

    Someone may have said this already in the comments no, I did not read any. The thing is I believe you should let that sit for 24-48 hours before using it. I think when you read the directions in the beginning that's what was said. That's probably the reason why so much product is coming out of the pan and onto the brush. This is a great product to either make your own color combinations or fix your broken makeup. I would definitely invest in something like this. They need to come out with different size pans though, like maybe rectangular would be nice for eyeshadow?

    You know what? I cannot get over how much product is wasted all around...
    I don't get the benefit for the home user. Only that you can use it immediately Nothing wrong with doing it the way you already do it.

      This won’t replace how we repress makeup, but we like elements of it - the grinder, the tools etc. 😊

    • @SophiaM2208
      @SophiaM2208 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@BEAUTYNEWS the grinder it's the smart part of the tool, I agree. For what you do (which is a Service to people! ❤️) I think it's very helpful as a "work tool"
      But for the average consumer it can be "duped" with things you have at home.

    Is the pressing mechanism really light? It might also be too hollow to press properly, or isn’t weighted enough in the middle! Leading to an uneven and softer press

  • @deardoilydudette5588
    @deardoilydudette5588 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    It’s a great in depth video ☺️ I think I’d rather stick with mixing my broken makeup with iso alcohol and repressing though. It just seems too soft in the pan and kicks up a lot of powder for me

  • @yunxin
    @yunxin 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    if the powder is more wet before you press it, it presses a lot harder. but if you press it half dry, it's less compressed and therefore a lot softer

    Thank you so much for this video. I’m a makeup artist (not qualified tho) and I do house calls so I have a kit that I take with me all the time and I have broken so much makeup because of it, this video was really helpful because I could figure out which makeup repair kit to get. I did have a thought though you could always use the grinding thing and the spray and just repress it into the original pan as you would if you were using rubbing alcohol do that you get the benefits from both this product and moon moose.

    I respect that they put their balls on the line by sending you their product. I haven't checked out the site but I wonder if they have larger empty palettes? That might expand their market for those who are serial depotters and don't want to use Z Palettes.
    Editing my comment: they do sell larger palettes - USD$15 for 8x5.3"

      Morphe sells one for USD$10 (dimensions 9 1/2"L x 6 3/4"W) I have it and the quality is great. Also, a lot of youtubers have 10% off with morphe, so it would only be $9

    I think handle on that thing is short so it can fit inside when you want to put it away. People lose loose parts when they are not packed together.
